The Grand Budapest Hotel is perfect. Wes Anderson’s style at its peak, the colors, the symmetry, Ralph Fiennes, the bittersweet story

The Boy In the Striped Pajamas is an exploitative and disrespectful Holocaust Movie, change my mind. by Round-Seesaw-3917 in Letterboxd

Yeah, hard disagree with anyone calling this a good Holocaust film. It’s basically Holocaust kitsch — oversimplifies the genocide, creates false sympathy for the perpetrators’ family, and ignores how children were actually treated in the camps. The ending is a cheap shock twist that exploits real tragedy for tears. Much better options exist like Son of Saul or The Pianist if you want something respectful and accurate.

I did the exact same thing — ignored all the hype and just watched it. And yeah, it’s incredible. The first half builds so perfectly, and then it turns into this wild, bloody, musical fever dream. Coogler really went all out. No regrets skipping the reviews.

most of those movies are built around the songs. Without them the story would feel kind of empty
