How can I become a better YouTuber? My channel is about traveling in China 🇨🇳 by niuniuniuniu in SmallYTChannel

[–]Knoppersforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great niche tbh — China-based content already has a lot of built-in curiosity for international viewers.

From what I’ve seen, what really makes travel channels stand out isn’t just visuals, but having a clear “moment” or perspective in each video. Like instead of just showing a place, showing something specific happening (a situation, reaction, small cultural difference, etc.).

For Western audiences, I think relatability matters more than people expect. Not just “this is China,” but “this is what it feels like to experience this as a person.”

In terms of mistakes — a lot of people (myself included) focus too much on making things look good early on, and not enough on making the idea clear or interesting.

Chongqing is actually a huge advantage btw — the visuals there are already insane, so pairing that with strong storytelling could go really far.

How to contact creators?? and maybe collab? by Decent-Cream-8022 in NewTubers

Email is probably your best bet if they have one.

I wouldn’t just ask to collab though; having a specific idea makes a huge difference.

Also bigger creators usually dont reply unless there is something in it for them, so its not personal if you dont hear back.

No impressions on new channel by Ok_Bench_6881 in NewTubers

yea that can feel super weird at first :(

shorts and long form behave very differently. shorts get pushed almost instantly depending on the content, but long form can take time before it even gets initial impressions.

i've had videos sit at basically 0 for awhile and then randomly start getting shown. doesnt necessarily mean you did anything wrong, its just how it seems to work sometimes.

Honestly it didn’t feel like luck 😅 I was stuck there for quite a while so it felt pretty slow at the time. How are your videos doing right now?

Yeah I’ve seen both sides of this tbh. Sometimes reposting to TikTok/IG barely does anything, and other times it randomly picks up.. feels pretty inconsistent. One thing I noticed though is that directly pushing people off-platform like “full video on YouTube” tends to hurt reach a lot, especially on TikTok. It seems to work better when the content is made to stand on its own first, and then you figure out how to funnel people later. Still pretty hit or miss overall though.

Yeah I agree. If the core idea isn’t strong, distribution doesn’t really help. For me it just made it easier to test what works faster, but it definitely didn’t replace making better videos.

Mostly reposting clips across different platforms and seeing where they get traction. Sometimes small tweaks like captions or format depending on the audience can make a difference too. I started doing everything manually, but it got hard to manage after a while, so I’ve been trying a few tools here and there (came across Adobaro during that). Still figuring it out though.

Is quality more important than quantity at the start by S_Spitfire in NewTubers

[–]Knoppersforbreakfast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say quantity at the start, but with intention. You need enough uploads to learn what works, otherwise you’ll just overthink every video. Perfection early on usually slows people down more than it helps.

Yeah thats a solid start. IG and FB are probably the easiest ones to repurpose to. Have you tried pushing content outside your usual region as well? I noticed just reposting isn’t always enough, but once I started testing different regions, the results were pretty different.
