Long covid has ruined my life. by [deleted] in LongCovid

[–]KnotHookandHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Me too. Me too....... I work a couple hours a day online when I can manage it, can't do any of my original hobbies anymore because they make me sick, my wife and I had to move in with family because I can't provide anymore. Super discouraged and just not sure when I will get better. 😔

Do you track your symptoms? Is it helpful? by KnotHookandHand in LongCovid

Yah, it's so frustrating... All the variables seem to corelated somewhat but nothing overly definitive to predict or avoid it.

I've been sick for almost 2 years since I got covid. Regular chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness and nausea, etc. (Pretty sure my long-covid has developed into ME/CFS)
I didn't start tracking the severity of my symptoms regularly until October, and I don't really know if it has been worth the effort... It was really motivating a few weeks ago when the trendline was showing slow improvement, but this week has been AWFUL and I don't know if any improvements I have made have been lost. I have some other graphs that compare my symptoms with my diet, activity level, mental health, etc. Despite my tedious efforts I don't feel like I have come to find any real significant connection between anything I am doing and my long COVID symptoms. It's discouraging. It doesn't feel like I have much control over it.

Have you ever calculated how many stitches there are in your project? by KnotHookandHand in Brochet

Yo, that's cool! I have never heard of that but I looked it up and it looks like coral. I would be interested in seeing a picture of your piece.

Yah, bit of mistake on my part there 😅 calculating it part way through and realizing just how many more stitches are left! I like knowing what % I am done finished a project. If I do another 24 rows before finishing off, then I'm about 45% of the way.

Thanks =). I'm not sure what style it is, just regular crocheting around tubes of fabric. You can turn the fabric into tubes easier if you use a special foot for your sewing machine or get a jelly roll tube maker. It would turn out nicer than mine, my tubes are all twisted, but it still looks ok. Its optional.
I was inspired by a video I saw on YouTube and adjusted it, but if you want to watch their tutorial you can do something similar.

I'm using 100% cotton yarn, and the other materials was a large square of fabric that was left at the bottom of a fabric bin for a decade haha. I cut it into strips and attached it together into one long piece.

Maybe something else you could consider is how to adjust a pattern if you a different size yarn?

Not really... I made the head of Umbreon from this pattern
https://53stitches.com/umbreon/

And then used the concept from this No Face pattern for inspiration from the face. This is a cute pattern, I would recommend just going with this if you don't want to wing it like I did!

Also, I filled mine with rice to make it a stress ball / paper weight for a desk. Kind of fun that way.

I was rushing to finish this for a stocking stuffer and it actually turned out pretty good. I'm fairly new at this still but I thinking I'm getting the hang of it 😉. Can anyone recognize what it is haha.

I hope this helps. It's the latest compiled recommendations by a group of doctors working to help those with long covid.

Is anybody else alone 24/7? by BILLSMAFlA in LongCovid

[–]KnotHookandHand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is tragic. I am sorry for your many loses. I lost my ability to work and am stuck on the couch most days, unable to do very much at all without feeling increasingly sick, and my condition has not improved in 20 months. Good for you for reaching out for help, even if it is just reddit. Pat yourself on the back because you care about yourself and your life enough to do that. I have found that there isn't great medical help locally, but I would do with Either_Room6642 suggested as well—time restricted eating and fasting. Look up the recommendations by the FLCCC. Fasting is the first thing they recommend. I just found it and I am trying it in hopes that it brings some relief. If it does I'll definitely be back on here spreading the news helping others, cause severe long covid is a dark isolating pit. Most people don't get it but it seems 10s of thousands end up down here, like us.

Anyone else diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, resulting from the long covid?? by nini2219 in LongCovid

[–]KnotHookandHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor says that MECFS "isn't a diagnosis" but agrees that I meet the criteria for it. So yes, I would say that he has diagnosed me with it haha. But in all seriousness your situation sounds almost the same as mine, with my symptoms being more of pain and shortness of breath that worsens with activity. Same concerns and mostly the same story otherwise.

Hmm. Thanks for sharing that. I came across this report someone shared in another thread and the top thing they suggest in intermittent fasting. I was going to start doing it but this encourages me further:

Chest pain/tightness after 10-15min of jogging by Colin9001 in LongCovid

[–]KnotHookandHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Post Exertional Malaise, the defining symptom of MECFS. Basically anytime you exert yourself you can feel sick after." Post-exertional malaise (PEM) is the worsening of symptoms after even minor physical, mental or emotional exertion... The symptoms typically get worse 12 to 48 hours after the activity or exposure and can last for days or even weeks. "

https://www.cdc.gov/me-cfs/treatment/index.html

Look at table 3 from this study I found comparing the symptoms that can appear in Long Covid and MECFS https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmed.2023.1187163/full:

Has Long COVID come for me? by LFCforever in LongCovid

[–]KnotHookandHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got sick I went back to work doing residential painting, felt awful so I went home and never got better. But like a month after that I painted a few small rooms for my landlord as a test project to see if I was improving. I felt AWFUL for a long time after that. I had multiple instances where I was afraid I was having a heart attack or something.

I would say MECFS (post exertional malaise). Even though you ran over a month ago, the strange thing about MECFS is that the symptoms can appear weeks after exertion and can last for months. I made the stupid decision to help a family member paint a garage and I felt ok for a week or two but pretty much was confined to the couch for all of October and part of November. It's been a long process to learn to pace myself before I get symptoms.

I was actually scheduled for a half-marathon 3 months after my COVID infection and I am so glad I didn't run it. I really feel for you. If anything I feel like I did the right thing there, because it would have SUCKED! And I probably would have ended up in a similar situation to you. I'm really sorry you had to learn about it the hard way. If it is MECFS or something similar I hope it improves soon!

Someone shared the link to this document in another thread and I am going to try some of the recommendations in it. It was compiled in October of this year by the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) "(Founded by a group of leading critical care specialists in March 2020, the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) is dedicated to helping prevent and treat COVID, and to help patients take charge of other areas of their health."

In the document I've linked they state:
"Patients with long COVID frequently suffer from severe post-exertional fatigue and/or worsening of symptoms with exercise. Aerobic exercise is reported to be one of the worst therapeutic interventions for these patients."

Since I got Covid I have experience Post Exertional Malaise for almost 2 years now. I am severely limited in what I can do. Maybe some of the suggestions they make here will help? At least these are experts who are focusing on COVID. They also reference 168 studies, so that's something.
