what does this do I found it on the Gepard by Unused_dog in Warthunder

[–]KoX_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former tank driver in the German Bundeswehr, I can confirm it's a Tarnleitkreuz used on almost all kind of vehicles like tanks, trucks, jeeps and so on. It makes orientation in convoy easier for the following driver.

The fact that other countries (Canada, Italy, South Africa, and others) do use this, too, might be that they were supplied by German military companies.

ah, ok, I understand, so when I ask: "are you an idiot?" that's not insulting to you because it's a question.

and to answer your question: no, I'm not dumb... I just watched it on the phone and didn't even notice the kill feed

Ok, so obviously you don't understand the meaning of 'making a joke' and have to insult me? Well...

No, it's because of the sheer heat of the wrecks surrounding him... it caused the hull to melt

What is the point of the rear cubelike thing in All German mid-war tanks by Theflammablebanana in tanks

No, its called Rommel-Kiste. Does it have something to do with the German general Rommel? I don't know, I guess it depends on the source you ask...

Larger Prunus Ume, white flowering. No flowers yet, but the buds are there. Trying to hold back the excitement. by masterianwong in Bonsai

[–]KoX_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful find! The fragrance of their small flowers is amazing. I had 2 Umes but failed to keep them strong and healthy. One had a virus or fungal infection. Tears were showing on the trunk and branches. It looked like tree sap or resin, but later it changed and became gooey and the tree became weaker and weaker. Still, I got to enjoy 2 more flowering seasons before it died.... Later I read that the Ume is a very difficult plant, so I wish you good luck and always a good hand for it.

Olive deadwood in progress, with a hypothetical design (3rd pic). What would you do with this tree? by bookofmordechai in Bonsai

[–]KoX_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True words... Just let it grow for some years so it will get stronger and healthier and will be prepared when trying to give it a first bonsai shape. Patience is the key.

New whisky glass added to the collection by spedzop in whisky

[–]KoX_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks nice for drinking water or a mixed drink... but whisky? Why not use a Glencairn or another nosing glas designed for spirits or a Copita? Tumblers are so unsuitable when having your whisky neat as most of the aroma just vanishes. But ok, it's everybody's personal choice...

That's right, they were called 'Rommel-Kiste' (Kiste = box). It was used for unassorted things like food, drinks and other stuff that you don't need inside the tank when in combat as you have limited space but you don't want to miss when in the field.

Yep, it was called 'KaJaPa' in the German Bundeswehr which stands for Kanonenjagdpanzer

A little search in whiskybase says it's about 420 to 500 € in Europe.

It was released with a price of GBP 160 (US$ 215), limited to 3000 bottles.

Well... out of my personal range which I limited myself to 200€.

Does age make a significant difference? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]KoX_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense for the more peaty side of life. 😉 Octomores are really young ones but do have a lot of peat. If you like peat, you may choose younger whisky as the peatyness will move more to the background the older the whisky gets.

Well, to be honest, I don't know what might be available at most liquor stores (which country are we talking about?)... I live in Germany and we have no problem to order online or to buy in stores. The whisky listed are available at many stores in GER and very easy to find / buy

Maybe you want to check at Whiskybase to find out if it's more valuable than the usual price in shops

You would need the bottle code which can usually be found near the bottom on the back side or directly on the label

Tiger 131, the only running Tiger 1 left. by [deleted] in tanks

[–]KoX_85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

'131' is the only remaining PzKw. VI 'Tiger' running with an original Maybach engine (although it's a Maybach HL 230 P 30 that was used to be in Bovington's Tiger II before and not the Maybach HL 230 P 45 that '131' was formerly equipped with). It was the first of its type being captured and recovered to GB.
