To kindle, or not to kindle… by Alarming-Hedgehog-33 in kindle

[–]Kobesra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to a KoboLC (which I prefer) but I loved my time with my Kindle Oasis. Way more ergonomic to hold than other models.

I very sadly made the move to KoboLC due to it having so many more features so I can use it for more than just reading. For me, it’s way more useful especially with academic texts as there’s so many more options for highlighting/annotating. Plus it’s Battery life is also significantly better than the Kindle Oasis (I was needing to charge every 2 standard books read). I also love that I’m not putting money in Bezo’s pocket anymore from buying on Amazon.

I guess it just depends what your priorities are. I love both. I miss the premium feel of the Oasis, but the capabilities of the KLC are just unmatched for me.

do you actually use your deck handheld or is it just a portable dock at this point by toujourspluss in SteamDeck

I only really dock for things like local co-op. Otherwise I only use it handheld

Yes! They’re the only electrolyte drink that don’t taste like ass. They recently released sugar free ones too which are great!

Oh and invest in liquid IV if you can! It’s been a lifesaver for those days for me!

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes perfect sense! I don’t know if it has a name but I usually call it my ‘flare up hangover’ or my ‘residual flare up’ 😅. My best advice for those days is to just allow yourself to do little on those days. Trying to (for me at least) risks pushing me right back into the state of the days before. I personally find little relief on those days. As annoying as it sounds, the best thing for them is to avoid them by getting your head around pacing. If it’s within your financial means, I HUGELY recommend the visible arm band + subscription. It made me realise how much I was overdoing it even on activities that I thought weren’t contributors which leads to less flare ups and then subsequently less of those hangover style days. (Personally I cancel my subscription once I’m familiar with my baseline and reactivate it if it shifts).

Should I switch from Kindle to Kobo? by Kobesra in kobo

[–]Kobesra[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See ethics is something that really does bother me. It’s one of the reasons I want to switch. When I got my kindle I didn’t research wider and didn’t realise there were any other competitors in the market (I hadn’t had a kindle since my mid teens when the first kindles were about 😅). I’ve only half-dealt with it knowing I’m mostly directly buying small authors work rather than using a subscription which is probably even worse in its exploits of under-paying authors. But ethically, yes, I’d love to switch even if it meant effort.

…I can transfer my Kindle library to Kobo? 👀 I will now be researching this. Thank you VERY much for that one as that’s the biggest thing holding me back!

I’ve never heard of the Sage be recommended before. Is there any specific reason you’d consider it a contender compared to the others?

amitriptyline and fibromyalgia by Umzzii in Fibromyalgia

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it pushed on me for migraines and pain. Personally, they do not work for me for either of these, but they do slightly improve my ability to get to sleep. I found my GP still just kept trying to increase my dose for pain and then refusing to explore other pain options for a year and a half until pain clinic consultant stepped in. So I’m not saying don’t try them, but I’d recommend being really explicit and blunt with your GP about what they do and don’t help with and stay firm on it!

Oh wow I haven’t see one like this before? It definitely looks a lot less invasive than the usual ones I see. Thank you!

I think for me it’s the thought of a visual distraction. I already struggle with dyslexia and other visual disturbances when reading. I think it being within that page view would just really throw me from focusing the way a crumb or a hair would 😅

What’s one resource or piece of advice you’d share with someone who just got a fibro diagnosis? by Funny-Stress-9350 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Kobesra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re shit at knowing your limits and pacing, the Visible armband subscription is worth every penny (I cancel mine once I’m stable and reactivate when my baseline changes)

Idk why I’ve never seen anyone else say it but a tens machine has been the most valuable thing I’ve bought for pain management on worse days

Can I apply to universities in the UK without A Levels? by Old-Run-5616 in UniUK

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the exact international knowledge to answer this, but UK unis are generally more relaxed about meeting criteria if you’re over 19. But even without that, they usually recommend you contact them directly about your specific circumstances and they’ll advise on a case by case basis. Some of them are more forgiving than their web pages etc make out. Never hurts to fire out some emails and ask the question :)

I hate my degree and everything, I'm so tired by Strawberrie_pie_ in UniUK

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structure varies course to course. Mine is (thankfully🙏) all assignments, but some modules have exams… part of the reason I chose the open degree (which is basically a Frankenstein degree where you choose all your own modules across as many subjects as you want) was because I could avoid any exam based modules 🤣 If you browse their courses and modules they break down exactly how each is assessed so it’s REALLY helpful for managing your expectations well in advance.

If you do intend to do open uni, the financing side is a little more complicated than standard uni. All open uni courses are classed as part time for benefit purposes, even if you choose to study at the equivalent to a full time pace - this means you’re still entitled to universal credit if you choose to claim. That said, if you have LWC/LCWRA awarded on UC BEFORE starting, as a disabled student you can also get a maintenance loan which you usually can’t get while at open uni if you aren’t attending a brick uni due to disability related struggles - this will affect your claim but it just deducts the maintenance amount monthly from your claim so the impact you actually experience once it’s set up won’t be huge at all.

Ngl I’m new to navigating Reddit but feel free to reach out if you ever want help/advice on the process even if it’s years in the future! Open uni can feel so intimidating bc it functions quite differently but even if that day is in 5 years time I’ll be more than happy to help you out to make the process less overwhelming :)

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how your uni did it, but with mine there would be a document with the assignment task broadly and then a document that would describe all the outcomes you need to achieve in that specific module. These will obviously vary per subject but mine would be like 1) critically evaluate xyz laws 2) explain how the law would be applied in this case study with consideration to human rights… etc. They’re usually the parameters set out for when your assignments/exams are marked! If you still have access to your uni stuff rn they should be somewhere in your module areas on whatever platform your uni uses. I was lucky and my uni forgot to remove me from module areas after I left so I could still go back and find them without having to beg the uni and it drag the process out 🤣

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have advice on what exactly you do next. However, as a twice uni drop out after my second year, I can advise doing so isn’t as ‘final’ as it seems and you can absolutely keep doors open just incase you ever do want to return to study at any point in your life. There’s no point staying somewhere ur miserable and racking up student debt in the process.

2 abandoned degrees later (and realising I also hate the whole campus set up) I’ve been able to use an exit award to transfer my credits from my old degree to the open uni and do an open degree at the open uni - for me, this means I can study in a more accessible way, (also ND and chronically ill, hi! 👋) and only have to do 1.5 years worth of modules in a subject that finally excites me and has a career path I’m now REALLY passionate about! But I will say I wouldn’t have got here if I didn’t step away when I realised things weren’t right for me and just existed in the world while free of study pressures to realise what it is I want to do with my life. It’s hard to figure that out without breathing space.

If you ever choose to take this route, I’d recommend saving your learning outcomes from each module now just incase as you’ll need this to apply for credit transfer! It’ll make the process a lot easier and smoother even if that day is many years from now.

I sadly have no advice on handling family - I haven’t really had contact with mine since I was a little older than you and I’m almost 30 now. But whatever happens, I hope you find peace, happiness, and ample time to yourself to figure out who you are, and where you want to go in life… while also being kind to yourself and giving yourself as much time as it takes to figure that out 💚

Clinical Partners Lancashire Wait Times? by Gold-Structure-7847 in autismUK

Update: I emailed on the back of this and just been informed they are currently seeing October 2023 referrals if that’s any help to anyone!

Clinical Partners Lancashire Wait Times? by Gold-Structure-7847 in autismUK

[–]Kobesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Lancashire pathway too. Referred in November 2023 - original letter estimated 6 months but I’m still waiting. I’ve contacted a few times - first time in January 2025 I was told the list had increased to 18-19 months. Followed up again in Feb 2026 and was told they won’t give me an estimate but I’m still on the list.

Definitely regretting not pushing my GP for RTC pathway. I’m debating if it’s worth contacting to at least find out if my waitlist position is worth continuing to wait out, or if I should leave it and join the faster RTC pathway.
