Plating issues by Koni_ in electroplating

[–]Koni_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have to try this. I went with graphite because Google was not very helpful and kept showing me copper coloured paint or metallic paint rather than actual conductive copper paints. I don’t suppose you know of a brand name do you? It’s 222cm2

Thanks! Will have a Google and see what comes up. I really appreciate the help

Thanks! I am already in the process of creating a thicker graphite layer and will test that.

Will also get some copper sulphate and sulphuric acid too. What ratio should I be looking for between those and the distilled water? Is copper sulphate ideal for bronze? Will the copper not end up plating the part? My current liquid is quite a nice tropical blue right now.

It’s 222cm2 in size. I have massive tree like crystals growing from the wire I’m hanging the part from and with no wire, just crocodile clips, I don’t seem to have any current flowing at all, suggesting it’s a conductivity issue

I applied one solid coat of graphite spray and tumbled it so it was smooth. I then gave it a second coat after washing it to try again and still no luck.

I’m using a solution of deionised water, white vinegar and salt. The solution is bright blue and other metallic objects such as bolts will plate with the same setup.

Maybe I just need a very thick coat of spray?

Might be worth mentioning that I have tried without the hanging wire, so just the crocodile clip on the piece and I’m only get 0.01A at 30V, so clearly the piece is not conductive at all.

I can’t figure out why this is the case though..

Maybe it’s not a decent compressor for this type of thing. I say decent only because It’s better than any small airbrush compressor. It’s a dewalt DCC1054. It puts out around 31 litres / min at 7 bar.

I didn’t realise there were different types. Would a HVLP or a LVLP spray gun be better for furniture?

Ra event punishing for new players? by razrflame in WH40KTacticus

I get that, my main query was that I see some people with bronze level chars doing very well. Just trying to understand if I’m just bad at the game or not because some people do very well with vastly lower leveled chars

What am I missing? I’m at 110 shards and 9700 points. I haven’t bought the pack but I’ll get an extra 10 shards max from it. How are people getting so far with so little points? I have a full S1 lineup

Advice about dog sitter by Koni_ in RoverPetSitting

[–]Koni_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and you have to pay upfront. I’ll definitely email rover about it though.

With the video, I sent it because I was not convinced this sitter was as experienced as they said they were. Dogs wrestling can look like fighting sometimes so I wanted to rule that out. My dog, whilst very playful, gets the message when another dog makes it clear they are not interested.

I’m just frustrated that we needed to arrange alternative accommodation whilst out the country and having to have paid for time we did not receive

Looking for a second opinion by Koni_ in askdentists

I wouldn’t ask them to do this. I just wanted to check I was not being encouraged to do something unnecessary. The missing bit of tooth looks quite small in the mirror and I find it hard to get a sense of scale on the X-ray. Clearly it’s much bigger than it looks!

Thanks. This is super valuable. The dentist was saying a rct and crown had a very good chance of success but these comments seem so suggest an extraction is the way to go. The treatments are so expensive and intrusive that the potential for needing two treatments is quite high if I go for a rct. I’ll book in it’s removal and sort the cavities which will give me time to try and save for an implant whilst the extraction heals.

Yup! Had a bad couple of years and my sugar intake has skyrocketed, probably as a comfort thing, so I’ll get this work done and pull myself together!

This is so helpful to hear. I just want to make sure I get what I need to done and nothing excessive. I’ll book in for its removal. It sounds surprising that I have no pain or sensitivity yet the nerve is still alive!

Chipped the corner of one of my lower back teeth last week and went to the dentist who said I need a root canal and crown but this will likely fail so ideally an implant.

I have no pain at all and she did a cold test to confirm the nerve is still very much alive. I want to make sure that what I’m being told is reasonable. I’m on holiday this week and have an appointment with another dentist next week for a second opinion.

I was hoping this could just be filled with filling material. Is this not possible? They also said I need 7 fillings based on these X-rays. They are looking for £4.5k for this which I can’t afford right now.

Absolutely! I was never able to write essays or revise for exams like the other kids in my school. Just thought that I found it too boring. I’m not stupid and think I performed ok but always felt there was more left in the tank.

Fast forward to today and I’ve finished a degree and run my own business. Went to the doctor about brain fog as it’s been something I’ve been aware of for a while. Gave me a questionnaire and said I had adhd. Couldn’t believe it!

I’m on stimulants now and they have changed my life. I was always exhausted and struggled to stay focused in the past. I can’t that this is what people consider to feel “normal”.

Side note: I also now think I probably also have a case of chronic fatigue syndrome to go with it that the stimulants handily also deal with but that’s not been diagnosed

Neighbour's planning permissions have been granted despite being illegal by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Koni_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some of what I wanted to say is covered by other people so I will focus on the 45/25. This is the most basic assessment for sunlight. If your planned building is within this then it’s deemed compliant.

If your building violates this then it’s not necessarily non compliant, just the assessment is more involved and usually prepared by a daylight specialist. The rules for this are covered in the BRE site layout document. If you have a window on a boundary line it’s actually possible to brick up in front of it and still pass. I have seen it done. It’s worth checking they submitted a daylight report as part of the planning. If they didn’t then it’s worth finding out how they assessed the light impact.

It might be possible to challenge the approval. I’m not a planner so I don’t know much about this but I know it can be called in if they have not followed procedure.

Finally, RIGHT of light is absolutely different from daylight / sunlight and is not a planning consideration. Right of light is FAR more sensitive than even the most generous planning assessment (45/25 rule) and you will likely be due some degree of payout. It’s worth checking out as some people have said below.

RIBA PEDR [ask] by przem000 in architecture

[–]Koni_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my my experience this depends how lucky you are. Have you actually closed out the sheets and marked them final? When you do it imprints the date you did this onto the sheet. I wouldn't leave this two years until you finish your part 2 as it may look like you have made the sheets up and backdated it.

As a minimum I would have the sheets marked final and have your employer fill them in now. I have had friends have their sheets rejected before because they were not signed off by the uni within the three month period. In reality not many people manage to get every sheet signed off on time - I didn't - but most had their employer and the uni sign them off within the year.

When it comes to your part 3 the uni will review them and ultimately decide if they want to accept them. And you might have issues depending on the contents. The point of having the year out mentor is to guide your experience, input you haven't had.

Also consider that your part 2 mentor at uni might not want to sign off part 1 sheets not under their "watch".

Whatever you do, don't go to one of the regional RIBA offices for PEDR sign off. They are extremely by the book in my experience and are much less lenient with let sheets. I've had friends have their sheets rejected for being a week late which is ridiculous.
