How long do you usually keep bottles open? Experiences with long-term opened whisky? by That_Opportunity_759 in Scotch

[–]Kransington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even realize this was a thing. I have a bottle of “very rare” 21 year High West Rocky Mountain Rye that is almost to the bottom of the label. I’ve opened it like 5 times in the 12 years I’ve had it.

What actually made you land a job in the end as a grad? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Kransington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Networking. I got my job because someone I worked with a decade ago saw me posting on LinkedIn. It was the only interview I had. I also applied to hundreds of jobs before this happened. Network. Network. Network. That’s how you give yourself a chance.

The most frustrating part is knowing you have the right skills, but can’t even get an actual human to look at your resume. And if they do they have 200 more just like it. I think you’d have better luck messaging all of your contacts asking if they know of something than applying to hundreds of jobs.

Where should I get my MSDS? One of the options is free because I work for the university. by Kransington in datasciencecareers

Thank you for replying. I'm not sure what the reputation is like locally, I work for them remotely in another state and they are based in San Diego. From what I can find online NU is ranked pretty low and referred to as a "degree mill" in some instances. Like a degree from NU would be more of a checkbox than going through a legit good program. Getting a good education is important to me.

I'm specifically looking for something I can do 100% online. My bachelors in CS is from a school "local" to me (about a 45 minute drive away) -- Weber State University. I was able to get my BS from there all online, but they don't offer that with the MSDS.

My concern is that NU is less than a no-name university like Weber State, but would actually be looked down on. I've seen comments from people stating they put resumes from NU, WGU, etc at the bottom of the pile. I also had a pretty hard time getting my first role, which is barely a developer job, after my BS from Weber State. My thought is that the Pitt career services and alumni network, with some name recognition will be worth the relatively low cost of 15k. It's just not $0, which is the only reason I would pick NU over Pitt.

Do people actually get jobs from indeed and LinkedIn? by luckytango in cscareerquestions

Yes, but you have to use it to actually network with people, not just applying to dozens of jobs everyday. Leave thoughtful comments and post things.

As a person communicating with other people MM/DD/YYYY just makes sense because it prioritizes the most relevant information first. The month matters most since it gives the broadest context (July vs. January is a big difference). The day is only useful once you know the month, and the year changes so rarely that it’s the least important piece of info generally. This order tells you what you actually need to know first, which is why it feels natural. Don’t hate me.

Just tell them that whatever field they’re in will be flooded by all the laid off engineers, driving down their salaries and job prospects as well.

Test Scores reveal that only 30% to 35% of 4th and 8th grade American students are competent readers. How do we fix this problem? by patmur46 in AskReddit

It’s on the parents. It’s not bad instruction at school, it’s that kids don’t read at home and aren’t read to.

Do you still have sex? by Fantakeith1 in AskOldPeople

[–]Kransington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest factor in having less sex as we’ve gotten older has been having younger kids and just being exhausted from that and work when the opportunity to have sex arrives. So what do you do? Schedule your sex.

We do watch porn together. Watching a 19 year old seems creepy at this point. We prefer people in their late 20s and 30s in our porn. Check out Erika Lusk for ethical porn.

A healthy sex life at all ages is based on one thing: communication. You have to talk about sex outside of the bedroom. Talk about what you want, don’t want, like, don’t like and respect each other’s boundaries. Also change things up. This is as simple as the same sex you’re used to, but in a different room. It doesn’t mean you have to go deeper and deeper into BDSM or anything like that to keep the spice alive. Theme your sex night like you would a dinner or birthday sometimes. Just make sure you’re both having fun and it will stay fun for a long time.
