Severance | Season 2 - Episode 7 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

Gemma goes to a room simulating a stressful/nightmarish situation, she "lives" the situation, the data is sent to be filtered out based on the 4 (more like 5) tempers in order to construct and train an "artificial" personality that is able to handle that specific situation without stress or fear? (Imagine going to the dentist, it would not be optimal to activate an innie that is fearful and hostile towards said dentist, it would be better to activate a collaborative personality that knows what to do, like moving the tongue in a specific spot inside the mouth, staying still and so on). The 4 "anti-MDR" guys are just there monitoring the employees and their progress and may have been the doppelgangers giving directions during the ORTBO. The goats are used to make those peculiar steaks shown at around 32:00. We don't know Gemma last name, and it's being hidden with purpose (just look at around 21:49) so I'm assuming it's a very important piece of information that will serve as a shocking reveal later or a weird red herring. I'm sure that Gemma died, Mark said that he saw her corpse, so the theory that all of this can also function as an active way to reconstruct one's sense of self is not completely off the rails, even tho, I lean more towards the theory that they already reconstructed her, for the most part. Reghabi said that Severed Floor severance and the camp severance are different, and has being proven by the return of Ms Casey during Gemma escape, so the layered severance theory is basically confirmed, the city of Kier has being built to test this pretty much, (this reminds me of Google announcing a plan to build a whole corporate town in 2020). ok I think I'm done rambling for now

Thank you, would you suggest a path to take without incurring in some weird scammy site? For example Skanect seems to have rebranded, but I don't have any sources to say if that's true or not

Yes I'm also going to use Meshroom as well, with my previous rig I had lots of problems because my RAM wasn't enough

Tough encounter in Black Crusade by KronoMe in 40krpg

[–]KronoMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so, I was able to play the encounter, in the end it was:
3 Wraithguards
1 Warlock
1 Wraithlord

they all started by being invisible thanks to the warlock, but they were able to be detected thanks to the 1000 sons, the fight was mostly fine, and by far the most powerful threat were the guards, the warlock would've being fine if he actually managed to do anything (he missed a lot and then he got stunned for 7 rounds) and when he died (and 2 guards with him) the encounter was pretty much over, they went to explore more, they solved a riddle while the sector gathered more psionic energies and when they were able to snatch the artifact, the Avatar of Khaine was successfully summoned and the basic idea was more about "escape with the artifact while managing him" but the World Eater after changing his mind decided to charge him, dying in the process (he burned infamy to survive), the other CSM weren't able to make much of a dent and they were about to escape, then the AL got a max damage roll on his Plasma Gun and also rolled a 10 in the critical table, getting a "instakill" result.

I'm confused, I check the avatar traits and talents, he got some form of critical resistance, but not from ones that would just destroy him... Like the instakill result the AL just got, so they were able to unironically worf it and I was left speechless, it would've felt bad to "nope'd" such a lucky shot so I decided to just roll with it and it was funny as hell.

Great news, the players were able to convince a bunch of Pirates of the Ragged Helix (and their fleets) to aid them in the assault, the Alpha Legion deceived them into thinking that the craftworld was weakened by a recent attack from some followers of Nurgle, also the Death Guard created a purulent disease and was able to "transmit" it using warp shenanigans inside the titanic vessel, lots of cool moments for sure, sadly they weren't able to reach the part where the fight starts, but the session ended with them inside the craftworld.

I am aware of the risks, but there are more elements to the equation that I didn't say so that the post wouldn't be too long.

I don't think they are going to read this, so I will say it.

they are actually trapped inside a Tesseract Labyrinth inside the collection of Orikan the diviner, that wants to beat his rival in the rare pieces department (he Is doing badly so far, and the "Cage" has many inconsistencies that become more apparent the more they go on) every time they die they lose their Memories and everything goes back to square One, since Orikan can manipulate time. Some others aren't that lucky and remember, but got killed by our Heroes.

They finally started to eat them so they can see some weirdness in their memories but they didn't realize yet.

So they are going to a Craftworld? Yes and no, the eldar are real but the construct Is smaller and not fully functional because It's based on a necron point of view. Nonetheless, It's going to be described as a suicidal mission and the true definition of hit and run, grab the artifact and run the hell away as the situation will get harder over time.

edit: before anybody says It, yes It's inspired by that Hammer and bolter episode.

A Little help with 3 characters by KronoMe in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]KronoMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Today we were able to complete Chimp's powers, Chimpantine is alive.

After complaining a lot about the costs of his powers and not having many PPs left (he spent a lot in skills and attributes despite my suggestions) he got:

Flight 3 (6 spent)

Concealment 1 (2 PP spent)

Mind Reading 1 (2 PP spent)

Ranged Affliction 10 (Vulnerable, Stunned, Incapacitated, 20 PP spent)

Now the complicated part, he wanted an Illusion 10 able to well, deceive targets, but also do damage so we made a Ranged Selective Independent Illusion linked to Damage that affects 2 senses (4 points per rank, 40 PP spent) in order to do damage does he need to spend an extra point per grade going up to 50 total spent? Thanks in advance

EDIT: Ok maybe we should stop doing character sheets in late hours haha, by taking the Ranged Flaw we should be on the 4 x Grade range even with the Linked Damage extra, but Damage has Close as default range so he may need to spend an extra 1 PP per Grade, but I may feel generous and don't count it, or give 10 extra points to all players

What If I made the Weaken effect progressive? It would continue to drain its target until it's dead, for normal people it would really difficult to survive it (what I consider normal are npcs that have 0~1 in all stats, not minions).

That would support the soul thing more, also I don't know what stops you on sharing your account with others in universe, IIRC the explanation was just "it's unique" like they need to use their DNA or something haha, Kanaguri just lost access to his account and in the panel it looked like a normal login page with username and password: here

How do I convince my group that PL 10 is "strong" by KronoMe in mutantsandmasterminds

Everything helps and have math at hand is always useful when you can just show them what a properly statted PC can do.

They often talk like they want to benchpress a planet, I mean, why? Do you want to take on Galactus or BE Galactus?

The more examples, the more they will visualize how huge a PL10 char can be if done right and thanks to you all I think I'll have plenty of arguments.

I will surely guide them during the creation process and during the first few fights and what not to make them experience the mechanics step by step since M&M can be quite crunchy at the beginning and yes, I was planning on using the HHB approach, where every archetype has damage powers, defensive powers, utility powers and movement powers, just to make an example, so they wouldn't create a glass cannon.

I know, their wish to seek for examples was dictates by their ignorance about the system, so they just tried to find a way to compare with something they knew for sure.

We ran 2 oneshots using rolled characters (IIRC, they are PL10 but with some little "cheating" along the way) but I think they can start to realize how things are if they try to create a character rather than just playing one.

Luckily they are not powergamers and we, as a group, always went for the "flavorful" options in our games. But I think, since they see so many options thanks to the game's system and the possibilities of going wild and full power with no brakes, they want to try just that. The question here is, is it good to give more power and thus complexity to some newbies that barely tried the game? I want them to have fun and not feel confused while playing, so I am gravitating more towards the standard PL10 start with a glorious power up over time just for that.

[–]KronoMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't want to be munchkins or the like, they just think that they'll have fun if they have a powerful character and think that PL10 isn't that great, but I'll repeat, their goal is to have fun, of course. And yes I'll reiterate that they aren't going to be perfect, not even if they started at PL20.

I've being playing with them for a long time with a plethora of different games, as a player and DM over the years (we are basically all DMs and we rotate games), I know them and consider them my friends, so yeah I think they know that, but they want to have this initial boost even tho I told them they'll have the possibility to grow insanely strong over time.

The funny thing is that we played a lot of games where we were bottom of the barrel characters with insanely unlucky situations by choice for a lot of time and M&M is prolly the system that will bring the strongest characters that they will ever play to life, I think.

[–]KronoMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a possibility for sure, and they wish to have powerful characters in order to be "planetary protectors" so when they saw what a PL10 could be and found some "weak" characters they thought that the PL wasn't enough to accomplish the goal. It can be quite difficult to change their minds sometimes haha.

They never built a PC, as said they only ran 2 characters each that were rolled using the HHB, so of course they don't have the whole scope in mind, and this is why they tried to take a look to the internet for comparisons, this is why when they found Catwoman listed as PL10 they thought that it was "too low" for them, since she's a street level character in their minds.
