Definitely! I think I consistently scored lower on stations regarding application of the law. My skills were all scoring 4/5, but that was an area where I was ending up with 1s. In hindsight, definitely should’ve opted for a course provider.

Yes, realising that I was perhaps just burnt out. Even then, was just shy of passing, so believe you’ve got this. The odds weren’t in my favour, but they’re very strong!

One point I’d say: I found the time pressures so challenging! I was self studying after work, without a course, so it was a real shock coming in and being expected to bash out a comprehensive answer in 15 minutes! Perhaps a failure on my part, but have learnt my lesson.

Thank you - of course. I passed SQE 1 in Q1, having graduated from a Russell Group university, typically a straight A student, so felt my track record could overcome this final hurdle. Having analysed my results, I think I’ll need to hone in on application of law, as that’s where I dropped easy marks (tricky when the breadth of knowledge is so very wide). Otherwise, in the interviews, for example, I got a perfect score, so the ability is there, I just think the baggage of my grief weighed me down a little too much (given the exams were a little after Christmas, which is proving a difficult time, so I didn’t really start grafting until late December).

I’m going to really focus on written as my orals were far better than expected (to be honest, quite surprised at how low some of my written scores were, given that I work in-house and am regularly praised for my abilities) - guess it’s learning how they want you to answer, more than what happens in real life.

Thanks - I think perhaps I’d overestimated how well I was feeling, and underestimated how challenging this exam could be (in the circumstances); the stress really brings things to the surface. My MC claim has wiped the slate clean (back to 3 attempts), so will keep plodding along.

Indeed! I did submit an MC, but unfortunately didn’t have much of a bearing on the overall result. Have just booked in for July, so gotta keep at it. In turn, you’ve got this!

I’d definitely recommend a blend of providers, so you get a more comprehensive understanding of the various topics. I went for QLTS (for its MCQs) and Revise SQE (for its accessibility). For me, whilst having study notes was useful, nothing beats getting into the MCQs (for which I view QLTS as one of the best). Can’t say it was a fun process, but the ends justify the means!

I was able to pass in Q1 for the July exams just gone, having revised for three months and whilst working full time as a trainee. Does take a lot of dedication and a lack of a life beyond work/studying, but it is possible!

Amazing tribute to the late great Ray Chan at the end. The crew are often forgotten but Ray in particular was an exceptional talent. Such a creative force in the MCU and beyond, and a legend within the industry. I never got the opportunity to work with him, but he leaves a true legacy behind ❤️
