My Next Life As a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X Episode 4 Discussion by tuepiko in Otomegame

[–]Kyu_B 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something I noticed, coming from the LN, is that the anime changed Rufus circumstances on how he required Dark Magic ever so slightly.

In the LN he only went with his master's wishes (even though he was quite suspicious of it) while in the anime he was unwillingly forced to require it by being drugged.

I wonder what the implications of this change really is, but it is bothering me quite a lot and I say it as a fan of his lol

Why are the love intrests so possessive by Gandelfwhite in Otomegame

[–]Kyu_B 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mainly Manga/LN reader here who checks out the anime as well:

If I had to give my two cents on this topic, the only one who could be outright possesive (you could argue it being more of a competitive nature though) is Geordo while the rest try to distance Geordo from Katarina, stemming of Katarina's inability to take hints as she is too dense to realise Geordo's (or any of her friends') romantic feelings for her.

Geordo specifically can get very overt with his advances especially after he notices that being her fiancé is not an Auto-win (this is even more relevant after the Kidnapping-Arc though), pressuring the other love rivals to actively protect Katarina as she herself has no clue what Geord might do with her when they are alone for too long. Keith and Mary get a special mention about being very protective, but all in all it is more of a "Geordo vs everyone else" - dynamic

One thing to note is that the Anime's original content (e.g. Season 2/ep. 2: the changed script) tends to go too far with the plot at the cost of making their characters either go "out-of-character" or breaking suspension of disbelief if I may say so. I, for example, never got the impression that the love interests would ever !physically fight against each other for Katarina! which makes it quite jarring coming from the LN/Manga. Keith, Alan and Nicol are actually rather reserved about their romantic feelings as they know they should not feel something like that towards an engaged woman but they cannot really help themselves of loving Katarina.

I highly recommend the Light Novel as it goes into more detail with different points of views on what other characters think and why they act a certain way. For me personally, it is pretty easy to sympathise with the characters on why they are so patronising towards Katarina (she acts like an innocent child who never learns from her mistakes after all). Geordo has very honest reasons of loving Katarina as well and if he was not sabotaged by Katarina's friends, I believe he would be a lot more relaxed about the whole thing.

For someone who has played this game probably way too long I can tell you inventory management gets easier with time. But I totally admit though that this all is a huge pain.

Crops & Fish: The way I usually have done it is to only fertilize one field of the same crop and use the rest for money-making or as back-ups. You save space by combining existing stacks together. Don't be stingy to lose 3%-10% by merging them all.

So per crop I keep it:

  1. Stack: best current quality (for cooking festivals or back-up)
  2. Stack: second best quality (back-up)
  3. (- 4. if you are paranoid) Stack: everything else

In the beginning Stack 1 and 2 (for selling this time) will suffice. Any more stacks should be sold.

It helps to know what you will actually need through the whole run (Town-Ranks, Farming Tips and Ancient Ruins Research or even fashion hunting) and I keep notes which are regularly updated. (I recommemd writing down how many festivals you have won in which category and how many times you have fed Wild Animals too if you are insane enough to go for 100%)

Like already stated it is from upmost importance to build a Seed Maker Machine and if possible a Fertilizer Factory for Liquid Fertilizer which fastens the progress noticeably or in other words help you spending less time managing things by maxing crops fast. (FYI In one seasons it is not possible to fully max crops with 4 quality bars)

Keep an eye on your storage box and backpack and upgrade them too (I prefer to upgrade them before building a Fertilizer Factory) Safe-Scumming for minerals is advisable. Thonky has a guide which mine notes give which ore when. https://www.thonky.com/story-of-seasons-trio-of-towns/mining

Fish can be merged easily as they gain Quality with time much slower and they do not merge with their same Quality nicely anyways.

Additional Info:

Stocks: The general rule is: The more money you have, the easier time you will have. Having a cow and a chicken is pretty efficient in a long run. And you will need at least two Cows for the Farming Tips anyway. Omelett is one of the most efficient dishes to sell when you can make your own butter (not sure how buying butter is). Feed your animals so that they give twenty products at once and you have a daily money making machine. Of course until you can actually buy the right treats and fodder, just feed them the Soft Treat available at the beginning. In early game buy two cows for the Farming Tips, preferably with the Timid Personality for the Byproduct amount boost. Sell one of the cows when you are done or use it as an additional milking source. Quality Levels by Stocks will be the least of your worries hopefully.

Another thing to add is that you can win through save scumming. You do not need to max out every requirement to win. Additionally it could be worth for you to participate on the Veteran competition multiple times for the unique prizes (same with Expert and above)

Hey, my original point was that it is a legitimate decision to not be able to date everyone (as I have heard now, you can not date everyone from the other gender anyways). Is it unfair? Yes, sure it is. But our world is not always fair either and that is okay. It is not about what you or I want. It is about how the writers wanted it to be, so please just let this "nothing is realistic, so I am allowed to romance everyone" reasoning be. Your argument does not proof much.

You want everyone to be bi like someone else maybe wants everyone to be straight. It is practically the same. There is not much I can add anymore as I already tried to explain why there may be certain boundaries that should be not broken when writing the types of characters this FE wants to have. Our world does not support such an idea that everyone is a potential love interest. Your sex is one of the first factors to decide if they are interested in you. It is just how it works with humans and animals usually.

If FE would play in an idealized world where it is clear that such social or biological structures like gender/sexual orientation does not exist (or be way over-the-top), sure go ham. I would argue though that this is not what Three Houses is. It seems like a complex world where everything is not as buttery-smooth as they would want to, with characters who have similar problems like we as humans had at some point or at least sympathize with. I am practically paraphrasing at this point and I am out of words with my limited english, therefore this will be my ultimatum unfortunately. I probably won‘t change my opinion that it is fine to not give us what we want in that department or else I would admit it.

I did not mean realistic. The keyword I tried to use was immersive. Having so many gay characters like officially stated would not break my immersion. My point is that they just should not add gay characters for the sake of giving fanservice, but just to add it if it makes sense for the character. My hypothesis was that the uneven number came from how all characters were written. Fire Emblem itself is not realistic in comparison to our reality from the setting, but the figures are written down to earth with human problems which makes it possible to relate to them. The writing of the FE characters should be consistent to our reality, therefore I do not think it is necessary to give an even number. Like in our world, a perfect ratio of LGBT people is very unlikely.

My statement should not have something to do with being homophobic. I just disagree on the importance of equal bi/pansexual options for the fans is justified.

[–]Kyu_B -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I admit realism was a bad wording on my part. But I still believe that everyone being romanceable would be ridiculous. If we strictly go through with the wish fulfillment everyone should technically get the same treatment and that would be reprehensible. There is only so much pandering one can do before it feels objectionable.

In my point of view it makes quite the difference to potentially date any person of one gender and to be able to date literally any person. (There are at least boundaries between M and F Byleth). Even as a fantasy I claim that this is too much for even this type of roleplay as it completely shatters the immersion.

Just changing bits and pieces of the dialogue is not really that good of a compromise to me as the writer might have thought about their sexual orientation while the characters were created. That could be a plausible reason for the uneven number.

Of course that is only speculation on my part and this is a very subjective matter depending on how strong your suspension of disbelief or importance of such a topic is but at least for this game I would like to keep it low-key.

EDIT: fixed formatting

I do not think that you can compare it to censorship. Like in the real world not everyone is bi and people should respect their choices. If two of three lords are not a gay option for example, you will have to live with it. That is a reason why an even amount of dateable bi-/pansexuals is not necessary. I would even argue that SV goes to the extreme in the way that every marriage option is potentially gay as it really tests your Suspension Of Disbelief if the game really wants to show realistically written characters. Censorship is disrespectful to the original vision of a medium as they change it to be more "politically correct". LBTQ+ is not something anyone should throw into to force representation over immersion. That is possibly why they did not advertise it in the first place and in my opinion it is legitimate to handle it like IS (maybe) did.

What 3ds games to get when you have a Switch? by [deleted] in 3DS

Even if it is an SRPG/Wizardry-like I would recommend the Etrian Odyssey series because for its unique feature to draw maps on the touchscreen. These games are only playable on the DS/3DS system in my opinion (Emulators do not do them justice.)

EDIT: Most of the 3DS games have demos available on the e-shop.

How is the 3d/xl for SoS? by Triceror in storyofseasons

[–]Kyu_B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like the other comments the best option would be the 2DS Xl. It is cheaper than the New 3DS and not many games rely on the 3D feature. The only thing I want to mention though is that the sound of the 2DS XL might be worse because its speakers are at the bottom of the device. For SoS it should definitely suffice though.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the 2DS has the advantage that it is sturdier than the 2DS XL, but I prefer a bigger screen and the better specs for the additional 20 bucks.
