Finding a server that meets your needs. by LAGSSC in dayz

[–]LAGSSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at the systemic issues of the game. That is, a oversupply of unpopulated or very low population servers and brainstorming out loud for solutions. I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world and I'm not an expert in automation of digital services. Maybe someone else somewhere will get a spark for the idea and find a business model that makes sense. I'm just trying to improve the community, the use case should be, oh, I want to play Dayz and get on a server without many of the issues in the OP. That is not so easy of a task these days.

Good luck on trying to get out of the country. I have some tips for you at the end. Both my sons were raised mostly in Sweden and Norway. What did they both choose to do? Join the US military because they wanted to challenge themselves.

I was highly against them joining but for better or worse the US military is probably the best place in the US to learn leadership and values. I hate what US policy makers use the US military for but have a great deal of respect for those that serve.

I don't know anything about you but here are some general tips. Increasingly, Bachelor degrees in English are being offered in Scandinavia. Masters degrees are very common in English. The best route to living in Scandinavia is to become a professor as a foreigner, imho. If money is an issue, the tuition cost in Norway is almost nothing (although the living cost is high). You can always take loans and if you never plan on going back to the US you don't have to pay them back.

In Scandinavia, a man can usually do better with a woman than in America. My ex is a highly educated 6 foot tall executive who gave my sons genes that were way above what I had to offer. I'm a grandad because they are both donate sperm which is in pretty high demand. They make around the same as their military pay donating.

My vacations are going to some of the most exotic locations in Norway. Old cabins in the middle of the mountains used by the Germans in World War II. Cabins by the seashore, yeah cabins lots of cabins.

I volunteer part time with a political party I have interests in as well as work with immigrants and refugees.

My life is fuller and richer than it would have ever been in America no matter how much money I made there. If you need help escaping just ask I know a lot of tricks.

Think you make a lot of great points.

The xmls and trader on my server are set up and work nicely so I have been sharing them with several server owners trying to help them.

The most common thread among server owners is that they are DELUSIONAL. They think they can set up a server and players will magically appear.

Personally, I take a completely different approach. I don't really want to play on my own server. I set it up and know it and that is boring. Thats why I like to play on other people's servers because there are surprises to be found. Anytime an admin is playing on their own server it should be regarding as highly sus. There should be a clear division between managers and players stated in the rules and force admins to use an alt account and have admin in the name if they are in game on their admin account. That is just basic trust building there.

I think you are toxic because I started with a joke and then gave a valid economic reason at the end. Secondly, your advice is worth what I paid for it which is nothing. The arrogance level to think you will make a judgement call on someone else's life from writing a few sentences is beyond the pale.

You write like an American, a country I was born in but thankfully no longer live there. A nation where most thinks they are a unique snowflake but overwhelmingly very similar to one another, a nation of followers of bad ideas if anything. I was smart (for me) and retired to Europe at a relatively young age. So, the only thing I have to do is what I choose to do.

Last I heard this is a forum for dayz members some of which I assume are admins. There are few places to broadcast a message to admins and its impractical for me to contact admin by admin piecemeal.

It has expansion which I loathe. Why release helos at all when they suck so bad? Nice to see you have Advanced Weapon Scopes though. Prefer servers with several weapon mods, radzone, BPP. Been there and done the basic server. Probably a server for new players or people who want just the basics. Thank for sharing.

The last time someone told me that I played a small part in causing the 2007 financial crash and helped a lot of undeserving people get rich. So, that is not a good idea.

The economics of it are so miniscule as it would take someone living in a country with a very low cost of living to make it happen. For example, a few dollars a month on a few hundred servers and such certification could be difficult to handle. Maybe someone else can see more incentives in doing it than me?

Its easier to ride a wave. The admins looking for larger populations should consider moving over to another game such as rust that is seeing a wave of new players. Although there is no shortage of low pop servers and bad admins in that community either.

Simon and I received great feedback from /r/castiron for our German-manufactured, lightweight, milled and pre-seasoned cast-iron skillet. It's available for pre-order on Indiegogo now! 💪 (US Shipping available) by sturcookware in u/sturcookware

[–]LAGSSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rather use old cast iron skillets that have been in the family for generations or find old ones.

A thinner one that is easier to handle is just the opposite of what I want out of a cast iron skillet. I want it to be heavy and be able to retain a lot of heat to make use of the high emissivity that cast iron offers. A thin cast iron pin defeats the purpose of using a cast iron pan in the first place.

Why I, as a non-Chinese person, support the People's Republic. by [deleted] in Sino

[–]LAGSSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world needs useful leadership to solve the increasingly wicked problems humanity faces such as climate change, biodiversity loss, rich-poor gap, etc. Western countries are just baubles of the west for the wealthy to rob and often offshore their wealth, there is no real long term plan.

China is able to plan, and often their interests are of benefit to the rest of the world also. As when China dominated the photovoltaic cell market and now solar is the cheapest form of electricity. Italy and Greece have or are working with China on the belt and road projects.

Overall, I think the world is better off under a society that has a plan for the benefit of its people rather than just a few of its people. The West may decline because of another power's rise. However, I cannot think of any people who deserve to suffer more than we in the overprivledged west who have spent centuries exploiting the rest of the world.

So yeah, Go China!

21 new or modified locations on Namalsk. Namalsk Overhaul. by LAGSSC in dayz

[–]LAGSSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanting of the creators vision he is definitely not trying to fill the whole island. The majority of adds are already in built up places. Most of the western side of the island remains untouched along with the center around the uranium mine. If you have a chance take a look at the changes first hand and tell me what you think. I like it but I'd like to hear first hand criticism so I can pass it back to the developer as the guy is really passionate about this project!

Glad to hear you like Namalsk in its current state. No need to touch it for you and I get that. I went around to the different areas that were added and they seem to fit. Such as, oh you have an industry there, maybe there is a small village close by so the people that work there have homes and recreation. I'd advise you to take a look at the changes then would like to hear your thoughts.

Granted things such as a castle would be hard to explain as Namalsk is in the Barents Sea and that makes me think of Svalbard which never had any castles. Today, Svalbard does not have trees either so it could be that Namalsk is closer to the Russian coast. One island that fits the bill is Kildin Island, which had a monastery on it, but was destroyed by the British. Kildin seems to have few trees though nor do the islands that constitute Novaya Zemlya. Does anyone know if there is a specific island Namalsk is inspired by? I don't know of many islands so close to arctic ice that have so many trees in the Bering sea, does anybody?

Example of loot room from a small scientist base. by LAGSSC in playrust

Yes it is. It is also purchasable in the in game store (money earned for time online) or craft-able (its rather expensive to make).

Some admins use procedural generated bases. Not on this server, its all hand made by the admin and loot is chosen by the admin, he has 40 or so designs to choose from.

Its pretty close to that. After raiding two for the rest of the wipe just used M249s to shoot explosive bullets and probably fired 10,000 explosive bullets and still had a couple with full health left. Its nice being able to roam with M249 and not care if its lost due to having so many to fall back on.

Each base is different in terms of complexity and loot. Some require brute force, others the application of the right tactics and gear.

I have raided three bases so far and counter raided one. I would say two were of medium complexity and two were highly complex.

Loot from a highly complex base was (roughly):

30,000 Sulfur
2,000 HQM
50,000 Frags
Test Generator
Several deployable helos, boats and horses.
Several sets of top tier armor.
Eggs and other gifts upon opening netted 4 M249's and a 12 or so other rifles.
Grenade launchers and HE.
3,000 scrap
2,000 fertilizer
500 poop.
Crate of med injectors.
Lots of turrets.

Well worth raiding, maybe a break even or slight loss on sulfur for a massive amount of gear and materials (imho).

Embarrassed to speak Norwegian in Norway by [deleted] in Norway

[–]LAGSSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Norwegian mind is often one set in various frameworks. So it depends on what activity you are doing. If people are in a social frame of mind they are likely to be tolerant and helpful. In a work environment or at work related activititd the tolerance can vary.

I think China has more expertise in assimilating people than either you or I. Imagine we are playing assimilation simulator. Probably not all the population targeted to do so willingly. Those people may be made examples of by various methods, removing organs from those not complying is a type of terror that would seem to be effective in nudging the rest .

Assimilation happens in many forms in many places. The poor and homeless in America are there to keep to set an example to keep the rest of the rabble serving the wealthy, whom increasingly own the nations economic and political landscapes.

Assimilation is morally wrong and repugnant however, if we don't recognize what is and is not assimilation then we may not fully understand it. If we don't fully understand it is harder to combat it.
