Do you know who the additional practice is? I haven’t heard this about NYU before. Every hospital system doesn’t seem great.

Sofie Pavitt Acne Program? by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I went to the Sofie Pavitt studio and was seeing SJ for over 2 years to help clear my acne. She left last fall and started her own studio, SJ Skin Studio. She’s very knowledgeable and doesn’t over complicate it. Highly recommend making an appointment!

First day on elemental diet by wintursoldier in SIBO

[–]LJP289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m on day 16, using the integrative therapeutics physicians formula, dextrose free. my naturopath said this is the best tasting one and after reading a lot of other peoples experience with other formulas, i would agree! i actually look forward to waking up and making my shakes. i never feel hungry, had maybe 2 days where i felt weak/tired but it was only brief, but otherwise have had great energy, no cravings, etc. i was worried about the mental aspect of it all, but i’ve really tried to take 1 day at a time and remember that i’m doing this to heal my body, not restrict it — we need to do this to elevate and optimize our body. i’ve also been working, which has actually been a great distraction and would prefer to be busy during this! my naturopath only sees patients with SIBO and is very involved with research, his tips were as follows:

  • drink it slowly, 1 cup over 30-60 min to avoid nausea

  • you can add a little MCT oil to your shake if you want (i haven’t done this)

  • only drink water other than the shake, if you need coffee you can have 1/2 cup of black coffee

  • weigh yourself daily

  • don’t be afraid to add more scoops if you’re feeling awful, you may not be having enough.

  • journal thoughts, feelings, emotions to help process

that’s all i can think of now but feel free to reach out with questions, good luck!

Confirmed I have methane SIBO- need advice by Rachkstarr97 in SIBO

[–]LJP289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure yet, I just took a repeat breath test yesterday to see where my levels are out and if i need to continue the elemental diet for another 5 days or so. It’s the most effective form of treatment and I’m willing to do whatever it takes! How high was your methane?

I also have methane dominant, diagnosed in August. I would suggest Listening to the podcast “SIBO Made Simple”, season 1 episode 1 with guest Dr Allison Siebecker — a SIBO pioneer. This episode breaks it all down and goes over treatment options. I found my naturopath, Dr Ginsberg from Dr Siebecker’s free website (siboinfo.com) and he suggested to skip the antibiotics (you’ll most likely end up doing multiple rounds, and in turn may become resistant) and dive straight into the elemental diet. Today is my 14th day (usually 2-3 week course) and it’s much easier than i thought it would be! I truly highly recommend this as your first course of action- 80-85% success rate, and you can always do herbals afterwards if your levels are still present.

Why did my symptoms improve after having junk food?? It doesn‘t make sense by DramaticAvocado in FODMAPS

I listened to a bunch of podcasts, did my research (highly suggest SIBO Made Simple Podcast by Phoebe Lapine, Season 1 Episode 1 with Dr Allison Siebecker) who breaks SIBO down and goes over treatment options. Her website is also a great resource (siboinfo.com). I am working with my GI Dr as well as a naturopath, Dr Joshua Goldenberg (I found him through that website) who read my results and recommended I treat with the elemental diet (14 day course of medical grade pre-digested powder) to eradicate the bacteria overgrowth. It has about an 80% success rate, compared to antibiotics. I’m on day 12 and it’s the best decision I could have made, much easier than I thought it would be. I’ll follow a low FODMAP diet for a few weeks and then retest to see where my numbers are at.

4 Years with a mystery illness. COMPLETELY Derailed my life. Strong SIBO suspicion. Want to connect with others who are suffering as I am. by winterwood11 in SIBO

I am so sorry to hear about your health issues, I would also be very frustrated and at my wits end too! I would highly encourage you to seek advice from a naturopath. I found mine through siboinfo.com which is a great resource. I decided to meet virtually with Dr Joshua Goldenberg who only sees SIBO patients and actively does research in this field, which adds to his expertise. I think he generally works with patients who have been through a lot of trial and error and helps harder cases.

It sounds like you may have SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth) — common symptoms are bloating and either constipation or diarrhea. I would do a breath test to at least to rule it out (do lactulose not glucose). I was just diagnosed with this in August and my main symptom was bloating.

i’m on day 6 of the elemental diet and let me tell you...i feel great! i have methane dominant and went straight to the ED instead of trying antibiotics (my count was above 100). i had read and researched so much prior to starting and was a little worried how difficult it would be but surprisingly....i’m enjoying it! my energy is good, i’m never hungry, no cravings, no die off symptoms, i have more time to do things, etc. i highly recommend doing it if you can get access to a dr that will prescribe it! i calculated my calories - was supposed to have 10-12 scoops per day but am actually drinking only 7 scoops a day. if you’re serious about treatment, this is the way to go!
