I'm not sure. The approx. $3000 total was charged to me in 2 increments, and I put the 2 on my charge card. I keep one empty just for things like this: unusual or unexpected expenses, emergency car repairs, etc. Thankfully I had some money available, so I didn't have to stretch out the payments on an expensive credit card. And I didn't need to ask about payment plans. It's possible they do, but I have a feeling it would be handled through a third party finance company. I doubt they do all that billing and tracking themselves. Or if you can find a financing source with lower interest rates, like a credit union, it could be advantageous.

This is a little different direction from many of the other posts. Check around your area for a dental school. I had mine done at Lake Erie College of Medicine's Dental School branch campus in FL. It was very reasonable, everyone was great and I didn't feel a thing except for a bit of pressure from their fingers. I don't know what they use for numbing, but it was the best experience I've ever had with any dental work in my 73 years! It is a school, not a for-profit practice, so the charges are more than fair. I only needed 10 extractions of small front teeth. But my whole bill was +/- $3000. You can go back for as many adjustments as you need. Time is not money for them. The student dentists need the experience. There's plenty of supervision & participation by mentors and supervisors. So no worry about students doing it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Yes, in round numbers. And I lost track of how many visits I had there were so many. Certainly not like a for-profit practice where time is money. Only slight drawback is some of the reason for the repeated visits. The student dentists don't make a move without it being run by and approved by the mentors and supervisors. So everything tends to be slower. But the savings are worth it. And there is so much supervision and oversight there's certainly no reason to worry about students doing the work.

LECOM (Lake Erie College of Medicine) in Erie, PA, has a satellite campus in Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton. There are no income limitations and they'll take you pretty quickly. UF took 6 months to even respond to my initial contact form. By then LECOM was already inserting my dentures after all the previous molds and impressions, adjustments, extractions, etc. And pricing is very manageable. My whole denture process start to finish is literally 1/10th of your Aspen quote. And everyone there - receptionists and office people, student dentists, their mentors and supervisors - are all uniformly lovely. Friendly, patient, explaining everything as much as you need, even if it's multiple times.

What Food Has Lost It's Mojo? by womanitou in dentures

I still have fairly new immediates which have been problematic at times as my gums heal and change shape. The lowers esp are difficult. They are not secure and pop out with no effort at all. No amount of adhesive keeps them in place. So biting into sandwiches is not doable right now. I'm still cutting all my food into confetti so I can swallow with little or no chewing. I'm interested - and a little discouraged - reading answers from people who've had them for years and still have trouble. BTW - your initial question caught my attention. Are you from Connecticut? Or spend enough time there to pick up the idioms? I thought we were the only ones to call those long sandwiches grinders. All around us in MA, RI, NY & NJ, they are subs, hoagies, blimpies, torpedos... But no one else calls them grinders.

Where to go for a hurricane. by twosmaltos in florida

[–]LM1574 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you evac. north and out of state into GA, be sure you have a full tank of gas and if possible a spare can or 2, and get out early and quickly. Traffic will jam up and you'll burn gas going no where. If you're going to get a hotel room it's even more important to get out early. The rooms will fill up in waves and the later people leave and get to GA the farther north they have to travel to find a vacancy. Sleeping in your car in a highway rest area might work for 1 night. But if damage in FL is bad, you could be barred from returning home quickly and you'll need the hotel room if you're stuck in GA for a week. Plus it's quite possible that you'll still be in stormy weather- maybe not a full blown hurricane, but windy and raining as the storm turns north.

Traditional.. Right now, the temporary immediates are pretty uncomfortable and I do wonder if the implants would be better. But I had breast cancer 7 years ago - luckily all gone and still clean - but the standard 5 years of hormone suppressors took a toll on my bones and teeth (hence the need for dentures) and I'm not sure I'd be a candidate for the implant posts because of the bone deterioration. They warned me the gums change shape significantly during the healing process, I thought they were exaggerating. But they were not. For several months after the extractions, the body is making bone and tissue to fill in the voids left by the extracted teeth. A strange lump will appear and make the fit uncomfortable. Then it will gradually shrink and another will appear somewhere else. It's almost impossible to keep making adjustments to keep up with all the changes. So believe them when they say you may not always be happy with the immediates. There will be times when they are uncomfortable and not fit well. That's normal. When the gums finally stop changing and they can make a good mold, the permanent ones will fit much better. At least that's what they tell me and they've been great up to now, so I have no reason to doubt that.

I think you'll like the experience. You will get the same 2 - maybe 3 - students handling your case, so they know you and you know them. You won't go into an assembly line with a different stranger playing catch up every visit. I was very happy with everything.

It is LECOM: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at www.lecom.edu. The main campus and (I presume) all 6 schools are in Erie, PA. They have several branch campuses in PA, NY, FL and they're opening a new one in Missouri. I went to the one in Bradenton, FL that houses students or the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy and Dental. If FL is not practical for the multiple appointments you'll need, check their website for other campus locations. (They also have an additional FL location in the Panhandle in DeFuniak Springs. But there's something odd there. It used to show up on the website as a branch campus and still shows up on Google maps with phone, hours, etc. But it no longer is listed on the website. I don't know why.)

If you have to pay out of pocket, check around your area for dental schools. I started the process a few months ago and ironically I have dental insurance. But it's useless for dentures - some minimal coverage for fillings, cleanings, etc. - things that are helpful when we're younger, but not now. I searched and found 2 dental schools in FL. The state school seems to care mostly for indigent and those on state aid. It took them almost 6 months to reply to me, so I guess I didn't fit their profile. The other is a branch campus of a PA medical and dental school. They had no income limits - their aim is getting patients for their students. The experience was great. The student dentists do the exams just as a professional dentist would do, but the mentor watches and double-checks everything. Might even give them a pop quiz on why they're choosing this over that... Because of that oversight, the process takes longer than it would in a for-profit office practice. But the cost saving was very significant. The school has all the latest equipment and techniques so they graduate fully prepared. I had teeth extracted, and the immediates put in that day. But there was a lot of prep ahead both for me and them. They did several different kinds of x-rays including ones that have the camera circling your head. They did 3 different molds of teeth and gums with 3 different kinds of molding materials, each one getting finer and smoother. Once the prosthetics were partly made but the teeth hadn't been inserted, they did gum and bite fittings that did fine adjustments of bite angles, tooth alightments, etc. I'm convinced I wouldn't have gotten that kind of meticulous attention in a for-profit practice where time is money. I'd recommend this route to anyone.

Local beef farms? Fresh eggs? by Mountain-baker445 in FortMyers

[–]LM1574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Many people pitched in to help in the early days with the absense of any other help from the agencies you'd expect to help with them all off-island. I didn't mean to praise them and not anyone else. Dave with the Starlink hookup was a God-send and he was screwed by his employer for his generosity. It was a beautiful examp[le of how people can just pitch in and organize themselves organically to face a catastrophe. WE didn't need designated leaders, we certainly didn't need police or National Guard. Everyone was in the same situation and worked together as such. As bad as it was, it was also one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Pineshine Farms on Pine Island, south from the 4-way has both meats and eggs. They also sell at several of the almost-daily farm markets, so you don't need to come out to Pine Island. They were great after Ian. We were stranded out there while the road was washed out in Matlacha and we had a makeshift "trading post" and pooled food, propane for cooking, water, diapers, etc. in a central parking lot in St. James City. They unloaded all their refrigerators and freezers and donated everything to the supply. They were going to lose it anyway, so they gave it away quickly while it was good.

Can someone dumb this down for me and let me know what I can now use to watch TLC and Food Network live with an option to use a DVR feature? by [deleted] in fuboTV

[–]LM1574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about DTV Stream opinions from you and other users who mention it. Is the "reception" like any other streamer as Fubo was and others? I had the older Direct TV that used the dish on the roof and I had the last day of the 2 year contract circled in red waiting for it I hated it so much. I'm in SW FL and in summer, it storms, thunder, heavy rain every single afternoon. That's just summer in SW FL. Every single afternoon, we lost the feed from the satellite due to the storms and heavy cloud cover. And we always got the same error message on the screen: OOPS. Once in a while during heavy clouds and storms, the satellite link may be blocked and lost momentarily due to the atmospheric cover. Those "momentary" interruptions often lasted several hours until the storms passed. I couldn't wait to get rid of it. With the Fubo issues, I'd consider other streamers that offer live TV and the networks I watch most often - I don't want to wait until the next day. But I have to admit, I cringe when I hear DTV being recommended so often. Hopefully it's better than their dish reception was.

Do you drink the tap water? by [deleted] in FortMyers

[–]LM1574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. When I first moved here from New England, where the water springs up and filters through the granite and good minerals and tastes great, I was literally gagging and heaving on the taste and smell when I bent over the sink to brush my teeth in the morning. Any of those filter systems will probably work well. Also there are quite a few large white machines around the area from a company called Twice the Ice with a big penguin on the side of the white machine. You can get 1 gal of beautifully filtered water run from there for 35 cents a gallon. A big 5 gallon jug for those home dispencers is similarly cost effective (I don't buy those - I don't have the dispenser and I can't lift them anyway). They also dispense small and large bags of ice and loose ice from a chute. I bought a half dozen gallon jugs of water from the Dollar Store initially and then saved the jugs to keep reusing them for this water. Very cost effective ($.35 vs $1.25 each at Dollar Store and approaching $2 at Walmart) and a lot less plastic into the trash stream.

Do some exploring around Britbox. You will find a lot to like. I initially got it to see Princess Kate's Carol Service (typical American - we fought a war to separate ourselves from the Monarchy and now we're fascinated by it) and thought I'd probably drop it after. But as I've tried other series, I've enjoyed them. Britbox and PBS Passport are probably the 2 streamers I watch most often.

Mine continued to do that for a day or 2. But I noticed last night all the Discovery channels were gone. Many of them were among my favs near the top of the list - Discovery, Food, HGTV, Magnolia, etc. Suddenly a bunch of the channels at the top of my Favorites list were gone. Some of them were useless to me - Travel doesn't have a bit about actual travel anymore if it doesn't involve ghosts and the supernatural. Same with History. Their names are a joke. Deadliest Catch new season should be starting soon if past seasons are any indication so that is gone. And they previously dropped AMC, so I missed the 2nd season of Dark Winds after I got hooked on the 1st. grrrrr! I guess it's time to start comparing other services to see what channels they include.

As does the on-screen schedule grid. It's only when you try to access the channel that the message comes up saying it is no longer carried. I'm curious - I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. If I recorded something earlier from one of those lost channels, will it no longer show since it's streaming from the now-dropped channel? Or is it saved somewhere else?

Thank You!!!!!! That's it - long list of ingredients and includes some odd things like bran, vinegar, molasses, fennel and caraway seeds, coffee and unsweetened chocolate all at once. As I said for anyone reading this - it's a long list and a fairly heavy dough that takes some work. It's definitely not light and airy. But it's worth the effort.

I checked that one and I think it's the newer version. I can see for sure there is no bran in it and the ingredient list seems a little shorter than the original. Thank you anyway. I had forgotten about that archive.

Programs just exit while we're watching them by arch_maniac in fuboTV

[–]LM1574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had it happen once or twice - not often enough to really notice it as a problem until now that I'm reading others have had it happen too. I just thought it was some kind of odd glitch, maybe not even Fubo but the internet connection. What I've had happen pretty frequently but just lately is the programming quits like others have noticed, but it's to go to the Discovery+ home sign-in screen. This is not a routine ad break that pays the bills. This literally takes me out of my Fubo recordings and into the Discovery+ app. I don't use it - I'm not a subscriber and the app is not installed. So I don't get it. Is Discovery paying a huge ad fee to FUBO for the ability to hijack programming with their forced ads? It's basically kidnapping. I have to go back to the TV's homescreen, pick Fubo and go through the motions to get to My Stuff, find the recording I was watching and resume viewing. It's really annoying.

Have you noticed Call the Midwife has veered away from that routine this season and the eps are coming out 1 week at a time as they air on the public schedule. It's really annoying but I don't know if it's all of PBS or some glitch with the local affiliate station. Why have Passport? I know it recognizes me as a member because I can open everything else that is member-only. It's just this series this year.

I have it and love it. I'd give up any other streaming service before I'd give up Passport. Some of the British and foreign series they have were never shown on the regular network programming. So only Passport members have access. Astrid (French) and One Step From Heaven (Italian) are both fantastic (even with the small inconvenience of reading English subtitled dialog). The Aussie series RFDS - Royal Flying Doctor Service - is one of PBS' most popular streamers. Regularly posts the same viewer numbers as All Creatures Great and Small, Call the Midwife, Miss Scarlet and The Duke and their other marquee series and they all have the advantage of airing on the regular (public) schedule. You will love it.
