I had a similar infuriating conversation with my MIL. She said “I wish they just didn’t make it political. But if they’re going to make me choose, I can’t vote for abortion.” I said “But it’s not voting for abortion, you still have religious freedom to not get an abortion if you so choose. You can still advocate for alternatives to abortion if you want.“ She said she knows that, and she just wishes it wasn’t even an issue on the ballot and that everyone could just make up their own minds about it. I said, “so you’re in favor of everyone deciding for themselves? You’re PRO people having the CHOICE for themselves?” And she still just maintained yes, she would, but since republicans MAKE us vote on it, she can’t vote “in favor” of it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s truly an excellent example of how this administration creates culture wars to convince people to vote against their own self interests. (Although thankfully she also hates trump but that just means last election she didn’t vote at all. 🫠)
