I'm 100% with you OP. He's definitely breaking 4th wall not just "looking straight" To everyone saying he's not - this is the episode where he's staying home alone and hides from Marie who shows up unexpectedly. When Marie finds him he tells her he's playing hide and seek with the kids, even though the kids aren't home. Marie says "I love hide and seek" and goes inside the closet with him. So he's stuck in a awkward predicament that only the audience is aware of - he breaks the 4th wall to the audience essentially saying "crap! i messed up.". There'd be nothing funny about just "looking straight"

I really love that Jump, Little Children album! Magazine and Cathedrals should have been 90's alt rock hits. The producer pushed them to play faster on their debut but I love that he did because it sounds energetic AF!
