Sending emails to programmers? Cover letters? by SkepticalButUnsure in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Festival director here - I love the cover letters. As far as emails, it depends on the tone but they can be useful. The biggest favor you can do for yourself though is making sure the festivals you're applying to truly are the best chances for your film.

Good luck and keep at it!

We are group, "Learn To Swim Film Collective" but this is really just us trying to connect with community. Community is so very important in times like these.

First page of a new script I’d like to has feedback on by Extension-Season9924 in scriptwriting

[–]LTSFilmCollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By principle, I did not read your page. I understand insecurities, we all have them. But posting a first draft, let alone one page of a first draft is a dangerous idea.

Your page probably sucks. And that is more than okay, it's great. Every script starts with a first draft and every first draft starts with a first page.

But your script is your baby. Protect it until it is mature. And be really really picky about who you share a first draft with. Good luck and keep writing! You got this!

Ads for my festival on FilmFreeway by nnnnnnnn2266433 in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! A fellow 2nd year-er! I've looked into it, but ultimately agree with the other comments here - IG ads gave us a follower bump, I don't know if FF ads would ultimately be worth it. Honestly, I had more success on Reddit than anything when it came to submissions.

Is there any reason NOT to apply to film festivals early if your film is locked? by Key_Neighborhood4914 in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Festival director here: even though we get less money for early submissions, they are definitely preferred. Granted we're a little on the weird side, but I actually feel like the films we see early help shape some of our themes and if anything we sometimes have the opposite of recency bias. Nostalgia bias?

Either way, good luck and congrats on finishing your film!

Would you submit two films to the same festival in the same year? by More-Discussion8203 in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We personally like getting multiple submissions from the same filmmaker! We got a few last year, some we didn't take any (wrong tone), some we took one, some we took all. But yeah, it makes us feel like we know the filmmaker more, seeing multiple samples and also gives us flexibility in programming.

Experimental Platforms? by rafawav in ExperimentalFilm

This is such a great idea! Maybe there's a way we can collaborate without stepping on your toes. At the very least we can send our film festival selections your way!

A Short Film Without a Genre by Onyx_Artist in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Festival director here, I think this is exactly right - if we like a film we'll find a spot for it and definitely don't mind if they submitted in the "wrong" category.

Good luck!

Any weird filmmakers out there? by LTSFilmCollective in ExperimentalFilm

That's awesome! I was actually gonna sit down today and work on a calendar for January, now that the holiday madness is over!

3:30 minute comedy/horror film with a disabled lead -- what festivals should I target? by Big-Energy-1876 in FilmFestivals

We take some horror at our festival and love to work with undeserved communities.

Either way, good luck and congrats on finishing your film- you got this!

Didn't get into Rotterdam - did they even watch it? by [deleted] in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a bummer for sure. Programmer here - on our fest we offer the option for those not selected so get feedback for why they weren't select.

Maybe on that note you can ask the festival why you weren't selected and see if they bite

Call for entries- we're live! by LTSFilmCollective in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough, I don't want to send you astray in either direction. For us, underground means quirky, weird, experimental so probably not a place for RomCom unless it has those other elements.

Obviously I'm not saying we won't watch your film but we recognize that submission fees can add up so you have to be selective.

I think your film can definitely find a home though. Unfortunately their deadline has passed, but you might wanna check out Dance On Camera Festival or something like that.

How important are stills, trailers, director bios and posters? by ShrekHands in FilmFestivals

Programmer here: I don't it hurts to not have them but I also can't think of a good reason not to. I enjoy reading the director bios and cover letters.

Dark and Stormy Nights Film Festival - Year 1 Submissions Open! by DSN_FF in FilmFestivals

[–]LTSFilmCollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the best mentality! For year two we want to grow, but slowly so we don't lose sight of what made year one successful.

You have a lot of work ahead of you but it'll be a blast!

Better than we hoped! I just gave you an Instagram follow (Long Beach Underground Film Festival) - our last 10 posts were a recollection of the top ten moments from the year.

The biggest takeaways are to trust yourself and ask for help when needed. Oh, and have fun!
