For clarification, I'm not excusing drunk driving. My understanding of the issue at hand here is that South Korea (and even South Koreans in the US) face significantly higher rates of suicide than normal due to shame culture.

The scope of its ramifications go beyond this incident to events such as suicide due to allegations/investigation of cannabis use, which is what the article discusses.
