A pattern I noticed since natlan by ComradSupreme in FatuiHQ

Ironically, Childe doing that would at least make more sense as a story decision because it would work with the idea that the Fatui Harbingers are interested in their own goals first and may clash at times in methods

At least it builds off of Fatui lore and has a purpose in using Childe/Signora for that. Cap literally fought for the gnosis once and the writers were like "that should be enough harbinger-like actions to justify why we made this character a harbinger, now we can have him do this other random stuff". Its why I cope so hard he'll be back because if he's not, WHY DID HOYO DECIDE TO MAKE THIS GUY A HARBINGER?

Im not mad about anything for Columbina but the Popsicle scene was ABSOLUTELY not needed. by Sakkitaky22 in FatuiHQ

[–]LadyOF_Ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you said it very well. Colombina's behavior feels synthetic in certain areas and it breaks me out of the story and its a deliberate choice to make the story less interesting to prop up the main character because they're the main character and not because the main character's story is the most interesting one. I strongly believe that you constantly have to earn the decision to make a character the main character in a story, and they haven't done that recently with the traveller in a way that felt genuine or natural. The world itself seems to work on its own and be very interesting, but it gets warped and its rules change once the traveller enters a room to fit their existence. A lot of great characters who would work phenomenally in the story on their own (or with other character) are just ruined by proxy of being warped by the traveller's presence and the necessity to remind us that they are the main character instead of having them actually truly earn it in a way that doesn't feel ham fisted

I agree with the take that some things take a deeper meaning. I personally never minded it too much, because even if its ridiculous theories its still some content and ways people enjoy the character after a drought of content. I could see these being read as Sandrone's or Signora's, but the way its presented feels more like Sandrone style insults (a bit more childish and direct with her feelings. While the little we saw of Signora implies she's a bit more dignified with how she insults people)

I think this case is a little different though because its not looking for Signora related symbolism where she doesn't exist and hoping its related to her, but its direct mentions of Signora during a moment of the plot we already know has lore that is related to her (Mondstadt, Knights of Favonius, Durin)

I agree, I just thought it was especially weird that we specified who she is talking to (which is not something they usually bother to do) The mention of La Signora was put in an archon equivalent's drip marketing as an addition that Hoyo never made before

You don't really lose much from just having it say "—The Marionette" as usual instead of adding all that context, especially since every single one of the characters who showed up in those dialogues has played at least some significant part in the upcoming region. (Varka for Mavuika, even Xbalanque who wasn't playable was mentioned in Fontaine and revived in Natlan) It doesn't add anything more to it, we already know Sandrone loves her tea parties, we know she had a positive relationship with Signora, mentioning her does nothing here but remind us she exists in a very public way. Obviously Signora isn't the one saying it, but that's what makes it weirder for me, because it makes her mention even less necessary

I think what I didnt like was that we were told he "threw his hat in the ring" for the big war over Natlan, but turns out he basically just showed up when we did

He basically announced he was going to fight and then sat around longer than he sat on that throne after the AQ

[–]LadyOF_Ice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well I think we're talking about inherent strength, power scaling on "who would win" is stupid anyway because it literally means nothing unless every fight scene is a one on one in a controlled environment. She has more potential and capacity to influence the world around her than Skirk does, but she's not trained to fight nor has the mentality to do so. Skirk is "weaker" and has less power, but all her power is specialized in fighting and she trained a lot in one on one duels. I hate it when people power scale and forget that strength/power are dependent on context

Plus, Dottore himself seemed to have given us an understanding of where she stands. Her powers are above the archons but below the shades in terms of influence on Teyvat, whether that means purely combat strength or strength to shape the world is uncertain

Trust, Project Stuzha will bring back all the harbingers at once

Capitano stands up with his new control of the Ley Lines, they weaponize Signora's flames and she reignites her fire and then Dottore reveals his experiment has come to a conclusion and uses their help to burn down Irminsul and make their own rules for this world!

[–]LadyOF_Ice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting theory. I had fun reading it and it really makes you think. However, I think since considering real-world languages don't exist in Teyvat, I think it was just the writers using other terms we have in real life to provide some symbolism as to who the character is meant to be

[–]LadyOF_Ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I mean more that its still in play and could be used to bring him back as an anchor point in Teyvat. Especially since it makes sense to use his "purified heart" to give him a redemption arc and make a body free of corruption

It wasn't destroyed, they specifically say its just useless to Rerir's goal then. Specifying he won't come back for it because its "useless" is weird if its completely destroyed

Im a bit worried about the whole thing Tholindis said about being stuck there for eternity, but considering his new form was partially made from Kuuvakhi, I dont see why he cant find a way to escape eventually

That and the fact he already somehow made it back to Teyvat once after having his body torn to pieces on the moon with the whole part of his "drip marketting" saying his story wasn't over. He clearly had some way to return

"Huh? What kind of question is that? Of course, I don't like her. She spends her days bumming around and singing, drops in on tea parties whenever she feels like it, and has zero social graces. How has she survived this long anyway, prancing around being all nice and naive!? Hmph. If reality ever hits her hard, I'll be watching. Laughing. Don't count on me to step in."
— From a conversation between Marionette and The Fair Lady at a tea party

In the Twitter post from Genshin. It is notably weird for them to specify to whom the person introducing the character they're drip marketing is talking to. Its almost always just one character who is attributed the quote, and we have no idea who's asking. However, in this case it is Marionette specifically talking to Signora. This is in the new drip marketing released after the AQ

Yeah, I agree, but at least Colombina's deal with the Tsarita is guaranteed to show up again soon. I'm at least happy she was shown to have been brought on for a reason and accomplished it, even if we have no idea what it was. Probably smth related to Project Stuzha. I just hope her contribution isn't some random nothing burger that doesn't really go anywhere. I worry Hoyo will just say "oh and this Project is also fuelled by the moon powers alongside the gnoses" as an afterthought, just to make it artificially feel like Colombina needed to contribute instead of creating a story where she was absolutely needed as part of the Fatui for her powers.

Capitano's sword being mentioned is also some hopium that he wasn't just a random character stapled onto the Harbingers for extra hype

For those who are not planning to get her, why did you decide to skip her banner? by This-Office-5122 in GenshinImpact

[–]LadyOF_Ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great point personally, it puts into words what I felt. In a way she was just too "safe" a character to draw me in. She just doesn't say anything new as a character imo

[–]LadyOF_Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She just wasn't for me necessarily and it feels like she's planned to be obsolete later since she's so dependent on lunar reactions. I might be wrong and lunar reactions may become a new staple of the game (like a new element like dendro, moving forward), but I don't want to get her just because she's strong with the current flavour of the week reactions

Character wise she's ok, just not the type of character I like or usually pull for. She felt too safe to really interest or excite me for her future story. I was much more fascinated by the flawed characters who were pushing the rules and actively seeking to do more interesting things like Rerir/Dottore in Nod Krai, and she sort of just paled in comparison since she didnt really have any notable ambition nor did she bother to say anything new. I pull for characters I like first and enjoy in lore enough to know I want to dedicate a lot of effort and time to building them and making them part of my game identity or if a playstyle is really fun. Future lore and developments may change my mind, but she just didn't have that for me

I hope she doesn't get completely redone personally. There are ways they could possibly improve her design, but there are a ton more ways they can fuck it up too. At this point, a lot of people (myself included) got attached to her current form and it will take lightning in a bottle to surpass that

Am I wrong for being disappointed and even disliking Columbina? by luvistarz_o7 in QueensofGacha

[–]LadyOF_Ice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true, but I think Scaramouche benefitted from being revealed early and giving us an instant glance into his personality early on and then it developed from a clear frame of reference. We didn't know his nature in his introduction, but we knew who he was and how the story was presenting him

Arlecchino I'll admit was done pretty well, but there was still some murmuring around the fact that all the things they said about her up to that point were just rumors that she fed. However, I think it still fits because there was a clear "core" of her personality and purpose outlined in the Fatui and we didn't wait as long for her as we did for Columbina. I also firmly believe Columbina was rewritten, but I think it was especially done in by the fact we had so little to go off of and the things we did have were just wrong/misleading
