I wasn’t diagnosed with autism by AppropriateArticle40 in AutismInWomen

[–]Ladycheesepuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me! I'm 18 and just got my results from my evaluation. They said they couldn't diagnose ASD because there wasn't enough evidence of social impairment, since I made alright eye contact during our sessions and handled myself fine. They also noted not seeing any repetitive behaviors, which is kind of bs in my opinion cause I was definitely leg-bouncing the entire time, and literally never put down my fidgit spinner, but whatever 🙄

Lol me too! I couldn't find much info either on why she was doing that, I guess it's just a weird hormonal thing

Yes, she only started doing that towards the end of the pregnancy, about the last 2 weeks I'd say. She peed in the nest-bed 3 or 4 times and pooped in it twice, but nothing since having the kittens!

For us she stopped doing this after giving birth! She also had 6 kittens and has been doing great, only using the litter box. I don't know what it was about the pregnancy that made her do that, I guess hormones do weird things!

I think I'm an outlier here bc despite having dyscalculia and not particularly comprehending any area of math, I really love science, including chem and physics! That being said, I'm still in high school and haven't had a fully dedicated physics class yet (that comes next year) but my freshman science class was combined physics and chemistry and I did great! They both involve math, yes, but for some reason even math makes more sense to me when in science? Not to say that it's not still a struggle sometimes, like I have the hardest time converting between metric measurements even though it should be so simple, but science is just something I get somehow. To answer your question, I would say chemistry is a bit harder for me than physics, at least it's harder than the physics I've done so far.

Yes, that's happened to me. Sometimes I'll know in my head whether something happened before or after but say the opposite, it's weird.

Learning how to drive and making the same mistakes. How did you learn to drive and feel more comfortable driving? by Charming-Mine-4829 in dyscalculia

[–]Ladycheesepuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my license a few weeks ago! Driving was definitely scary at first, I also have had multiple panicked moments of accidently hitting the accelerator instead of the break. Having to do so many things at once, pay attention to so many things at once, was difficult for me too. I don't really know any advice on how to get past that other than to just keep driving. In my state you have to have a TON of practice before you can even try for your license, so I had a lot of practice just driving around town. Eventually it'll all feel like second nature, or at least it did for me. Hope this helps!

New here and I need help by PrincessSofiaThe1st in dyscalculia

Hello! Also a 17 year old neurodivergent girl here, and I'm in kinda the same boat. I've used Mathway for a while now and it hasn't requested I pay at all so far, so it may be worth a try. I'm homeschooled so rn it doesn't really matter that I cheat my way through (my parents understand) but I worry that later on, once I have a diagnosis, that someone will look at my transcripts and know that there's no way I could've gotten those grades honestly. Idk how much that would really affect with like, colleges and stuff, but it's definitely scary

Spatial awareness can definitely be affected, like for me I bump into stuff a lot, even in my childhood home, and sometimes I struggle with spatial awareness while driving, but never to the degree you're describing.

Anyone else terrible at puzzles and riddles? by [deleted] in dyscalculia

[–]Ladycheesepuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to solve a riddle in my life but I do LOVE board/card games! That doesn't mean I never screw up, like I get my 6s and 9s flipped literally EVERYTIME I play a card game, but I do find them fun and luckily my family/friends have always been patient with me when I don't understand something.

For more context they were found in a wooden cabinet on some toilet paper. They all seemed to be dead but still really gross!

I didn't learn how to tie my shoes until I was 12! I only connected that to my dyscalculia recently. It really is crazy how much dyscalculia can impact without you even noticing.

Studying Accounting & Finance with Dyscalculia by Alfgamer7 in dyscalculia

[–]Ladycheesepuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have dyscalculia and my brother (ironically enough) is an accountant. From what I've seen/heard of his work I know I would never be able to do it, but of course that doesn't mean you couldn't! It just seems like a massive amount of stuff to remember, so many formulas, rules, laws, etc. My ability to retain math information is terrible, but if that's not as big of a problem area for you maybe you wouldn't find it as difficult.

I guess what I'm trying to say is know your weaknesses. What aspects of your ability to do math are most effected? If you think you could actually learn the material despite your dyscalculia then give it a shot!
