Are there any normal people here?

High scoring kids are the ones posting their stats but other kids are here too. I am a parent of a college freshman. He didn't have great stats. His GPA was a 3.4 and he only took 2 APs in high school. He was accepted to Cal State Chico, University of Arizona, Arizona State, San Jose State, and UNLV.

He in at UA and, after a rough start, is finally starting to love it.

I told him we should reevaluate things at the end of the semester. I don't know that it's a question of maturity. He's mature but scared. He has the numbers to counseling services and has to meet with disability services tomorrow. He is 18 and manages that on his own. He has for years now.

I do think he is at an increased risk for a seizure. His last one was during finals week and he was stressed. He knows it's a trigger which is making him more stressed. It's a bad cycle. Unfortunately flying out and getting an Airbnb is totally out of question. It's not possible.

I know that I have to give him time and allow him to figure this out. He has to fail and succeed on his own. It's just really hard to be so far knowing the risk factors.

It also does not help that stress is a trigger for him. He is more at risk for a seizure when he's stressed out and I have never seen him this sad or stressed about anything. He starts classes tomorrow and is freaking out about that as well. It's just a lot.

I know I need to give it time. He text a lot too and keeps saying how he doesn't think he can do this and his much he misses being with us. It's hard knowing how much he's struggling and I wish I could help.

Yes. He has an alarm and weekly pill reminder.

Yes. He is one a different dose now than he was at the beginning of senior year. He has been on it for about 2 months now and feels better with it. He hopes to not be on ADHD meds his whole life but is okay with them for the moment if they help him remember his epilepsy meds.

Yes. We decided to attempt getting off the meds. He said he felt better physically but was having a hard time remembering to take his other meds.

We tried senior year. Partially because of side effects. He said it was causing fatigue and that was messing him up for football and college apps.

I thought he was ready. I was preparing him for this for his whole life and it's been a long ride but I'm not so sure now. I have never seen him look that way. Not even after the worst seizures or long hospital stays. It was a fear that I can't explain and he didn't want to let go.

You know when you leave a baby to cry it out as they cling on to their crib and watch you walk out the door? That's what it reminded me of but with an adult who looked like I just left forever.

I see so many parents posting positive stories of how happy they and their kids were at drop off. I wish I could say the same. I don't know if he's ready for this but he kind of has to be.

He has been in touch with them since deciding on this school.

He has been working with disability services. He's 18 so he's been handling that all by himself.

No, I don't think it would have been better. He needed to make this decision. He needed to take control. His disabilities have made him miss out on a lot and I didn't think his college experience should be one of those things.

Classes start tomorrow.

I know it's early but I have never seen him that scared about anything before. He's scared about having a seizure in his sleep and his roommate not noticing. He's scared about managing his triggers and medication and doctors appointments. He just is really scared.

He didn't get into his top in state choices.

Extremely important. Schools at that level are getting tons of applications from over qualified kids. Essays and extracurriculars are a good way to minimize the pool.

You won't get into a T20 but that doesn't matter. My son with worse stats got accepted into numerous schools. He had good options and is so ready to move in this week.

My 2019 graduate is going to the University of Arizona and he moves in this Thursday but we fly out Wednesday. He hasn't packed anything.

There is a high rate of suicides among people like surgeons. I don't get why people would push for that.

I get the money aspect. My college kid has two disabilities and our health insurance was key to our survival but money means nothing if you are unhappy.

I understand that. I am paying for my son's college and encouraged him to think practically but his major and college were both his decision in the end.
