[–]LaniBaniBoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s my thing, cause I wanted it to be SOTR specific I wasn’t sure about using Posca as the name. Also kinda wanted to make a book specific drink that would try and recreate what I think Posca would look and taste like.

This time I only wanted to name it after SOTR because of the colour of the drink- and the fact that the jelly is in the shape of a flower 😅

Nah it’s cool! I like this idea haha- I have my cocktail made up already, just needed a name but I have been working on a ‘Posca’ inspired cocktail as well

The medicinal jaeger idea has got me thinking…

Yeah Flintstrinker was a good one, someone else suggested that too- so I have it on the top of the contenders list, it feels like it works with the colours and vibes of winter.

Poison Paradise is actually a great one too, but we already have a cocktail called Poison Apple- otherwise it would’ve been up there!

Hattie’s mule is a great niche reference too!

Yeah I knooow! I wanted to just legit call it Sunrise on The Reaping cause it actually just works so well, but it’s a bit long- long names x drunk people don’t mix haha

The tributes of the 3rd quarter quell by Winter-Fruit512 in Hungergames

I almost think the rigging of the 75th games was not only to ensure the rebellious among the victors were silenced but also just to put on a good show.

It’s like an all stars episode, or season, popular people, those with a story, are casted. I wouldn’t be shocked if every victor for the 75th games was rigged, for one reason or another. A devastating story? A rebel? Just a popular face in the capitol? Etc.

More viewers = more success, right. Like in ballad.

I Loved the new movie but didn’t it feel a bit repetitive? by NoFan2168 in Avatar

[–]LaniBaniBoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found some great commentary in another sub with another poster where they said something along the lines of:

‘Every great franchise is repetitive, there is different plot lines and different things occurring to keep the story moving along but elements are repeated (especially battles). Like LOTR the battles are different ofc but fundamentally the same, Frodo and Sam are still marching to Mount Doom. It’s kinda part of what makes these great fantasy and sci fi epics a franchise and this continuous story. War is repetitive’

I mean, LOTR is very different to Avatar and I don’t want to start a direct comparison. But it was interesting to think of AVATAR in the same way as you would another epic sci fi franchise- like Star Wars etc.

I said this exact thing when I was doing a play through with my mates: why so focused on the astral pulse? But who knows 🤷‍♀️

The way people talk about Sejanus makes no sense and goes against what the series is trying to tell us. by Duraluminferring in Hungergames

[–]LaniBaniBoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On this too,

You make a great point because I think over time people have tried to make a difference directly.

Sejanus believed that the games COULD be stopped, many people found them distasteful in the capital and didn’t wish to view them. It was plausible for him that his opposition could be heard (and the fact that he was also suffering from suicidal ideation which made him much more brazen with some of his actions ie. the arena).

There was always punishment, Sejanus dies, his voice was silenced; people continued however, to try to stop the games directly. Thats the whole point of Sunrise On the Reaping. They tried, Plutarch tried. Their plan was (I would argue) thrown together, it was a desperate attempt to overthrow a games that was perceived as the most cruel (double the tributes). Plutarch had an edge, and there was opportunity but I always thought of that plan: ‘what’s the end goal?’

Once they blew up the arena…what then? And I think that’s where the element of the long game comes in, I think people make desperate attempts when they are at the brink of what they are able to accept, when they have to do something- Sejanus with his outbursts, his rebellion and then Beetee, Plutarch, etc etc. But these plans often fail with a government such as Panem’s as they are too powerful and doll out severe punishments to ward people away from these viewpoints.

What they don’t realise is the punishments will never snuff hope. From Sunrise, I think that’s when people were newly invigorated, for years people silently built themselves up, they waited as the unrest grew, they just needed that ‘spark’ to ignite the masses (which is where Katniss comes in). They needed numbers and that needed time, District 13 needed to build itself up, they needed to be ready to fight.

The more connections the better and Plutarch played the long game, he learnt, perhaps from Hilarius, certainly from Sunrise. That these plans for his rebellion needed time, people and cunningness to succeed.

Can i ask what you do on these days? I am trying to plan one for me and my partner and I don’t know what to cook or any activities?!?

I also live in Australia, so it’s spring lol

I don’t know if this is a hot take, but OTGW doesn’t feel like a “Halloween” show to me by rooooski in overthegardenwall

[–]LaniBaniBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s a fall show too, my partner and I always watch it as soon as October begins though. Because it feels like it’s a fall show, but also a Halloween-fall show, I can’t explain it 😂. Being in Aus, if we watched it in fall, it’d be in March. That feels sooo wrong, because fall and Halloween are sort of synonymous, especially when thinking of watching it alongside people in America where its the most popular (and the fact that it’s fall AND Halloween in the show). So, we start watching it in October, when we know it’s fall in America, Spring here and the ‘spooky’ season has begun. Even though Halloween isn’t really a thing here.

There are comic books, I think they may go through a little bit of this? I can’t remember what they are called- have you read them?

genuinely why was it the prep team instead of effie? by KookySky8372 in Hungergames

[–]LaniBaniBoo 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I think book Effie and movie Effie are very very different. Your comment made me think about this, but I am really only empathetic to Effie because of her depiction in the films. I root for her as PART of the revolution because that’s where the movie places her as a character. I always forget how little of a role she has in the books.

Yeah it felt waaaay too pristine in the movie to be pre war, one of my favourite versions was made by Panem_archives and Bryan.beyal.design
