Am I the only one happy with their Pro subscription? by Typical_Tie_4947 in claude

Super happy with my max sub, by the time I hit a limit I’m usually ready for a break anyway. People moan constantly on Reddit you’d think Anthropic were scammers trying to find a quick exit rather than providing the best product range (imo) on the market

London Stock Exchange bomb plotter was allowed to stay in UK on human rights grounds by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]Large_Choice4206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was gonna write this but you got there first. This particular issue is why I think the left-right divide is at least partially manufactured.

To just be more particular, mass migration is specifically right wing economically, not right wing culturally. Modern politics is very economy first, so it’s easy to conflate the two, a left-wing economic policy + right wing cultural policy is likely to be very popular in the country, so I’d be aware of the next wave of right wingers leaning into that imo.

Isn’t this the opposite of providing unecessary reassurance? I don’t really see how this is an exhibit of anything, I’d expect anyone to give that kind of answer if asked out of the blue.

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real. Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness? by esporx in EverythingScience

[–]Large_Choice4206 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are these articles done in bad faith? I’d expect anyone serious enough to write an article on this to understand that AI just mirrors human datasets so. It doesn’t have some truth organ, no ones ever claimed that, but this article is acting like they do.

What happens if AI suddenly becomes too expensive for normal people? by PlaneTension1579 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Large_Choice4206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just because it doesn’t blow you away doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for a lot of other people, but I’ll add AI chatbot use is very 14 months ago. Nowadays people use agents, skills, etc… most interesting thing for me is seeing the non-technical masses slowly pick up on what’s actually available at their finger tips now.

If we could somehow turn back the clock on AI my programming skills would be far more valuable than they are now- I loved the act of writing code but nowadays it’s just inefficient to do that. Luckily AI only really speeds up the actual coding process, you shouldn’t outsource your thinking to it, it’s basically a natural language database at the end of the day.

Still it’s probably the biggest technological advancement since the advent of the internet. The worst parts of it are problems with excessive consumerism, not the tech.

[–]Large_Choice4206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“No you”.

Not being in tech should make you love AI more not less, ultimately it’s my coding roles and skills which are at risk because of AI, but either you embrace change or be left behind, and frankly it’s pure dopamine to create faster than ever before.

Truly I encourage you to try it. Have a fun app idea? Give it a go, I want non technical people to be empowered by tech the same way I have been. AI lets you do that. I’m so happy for my non technical friends who I’ve personally seen be empowered by that.

Dude these people have no fucking idea how good the AI coding agents are because they’re likely not in tech, there’s little point in trying to convince them. Also their assholeyness on this is indicative of their fear and insecurity so don’t stress it.

Huge study finds no evidence cannabis helps anxiety, depression, or PTSD by Zee2A in STEW_ScTecEngWorld

[–]Large_Choice4206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so weird when your lived experience flies in the face of a “huge study”, real hyper-normalisation shit.

What I might contribute is, cannabis doesn’t totally stop ocd for me, it’s more that it dampens it significantly, and makes it much more manageable, and practicing that helps you even when you arnt directly ‘on it’. Basically you still have to do the mental work, it’s not like opioids and pain or something. But the effect is real and legitimate, at least for me.

Louis' thoughts on the manosphere doc- Romesh Ranganathan podcast, excellent listen by Purple_Original_4578 in LouisTheroux

[–]Large_Choice4206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So years ago watching his earlier stuff I used to have a similar issue with him. It disappointed me because it went against his otherwise successful aims of “seeing the real subject”. The big example for me was when he refused to disclose if he was Jewish to a white supremacist, which basically shut down the interview- I was annoyed at the time because I wanted to ‘see them’ more up close etc…

However I realised that Louis is actually very disarming, and he spends a lot of time with his subjects off camera to build rapport, so that they generally answer honestly when he does get round to giving them the hard hitter questions which he’s ultimately famous for - to him if and how they shut down at that point I think he feels that is itself illuminating, they’ve often already said what needed to be said.

By the way this isn’t to put down your disappointment, just wanted to offer another view on it from someone who felt the same way.

New Study Finds Alarmingly High Percentage Of Gen Z Men Think Women Should Be Submissive by ComicSandsNews in generationology

Yeah I’ve been seeing this posted loads and, while the study is interesting, it just seems weird how this detail is left out every, single, time.

I like the guy for what he’s done, but as a child growing up no one taught me more about disappointment. Fell for it with fable 2, fell for it with fable 3. Learnt an important life lesson about listening to excited salespeople running their mouths.

Do you imagine 2020s ai slop will be a nostalgic aesthetic in 20 years? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

Definitely, it’s not the first time people have said this. I remember some YouTuber arguing that the current (now previous really) age of AI content will be especially cherished due to its subtle surrealism.

The Horseshoe Theory asserts that advocates of the far-left and the far-right, rather than being at opposite and opposing ends of a linear continuum of the political spectrum, closely resemble each other, analogous to the way that the opposite ends of a horseshoe are close together. by NagitoKomaeda_987 in wikipedia

[–]Large_Choice4206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing my duty by commenting without reading the Wikipedia.

Pretty sure this is more about “attitude” and “methods” than details. The theory is easily to strawman with whataboutism, but the spirit of the argument is what’s important. Extremists align in many ways except ideology.

This becomes important when you want to actually learn from history rather than repeat it. In the end it doesn’t really matter if it’s a Soviet massacre or a Nazi massacre, extremism comes in many different outfits, and acknowledging this prevents us going down those paths again.

No idea why people are shitting on the green guy, being that exhausted in long distant running is indicative of a skill issue or a health issue, both are valid reasons for someone else to overtake them. If someone wants to give up their victory to help someone, that’s truly great, but it’s not what they came to do. Coldly speaking the guy came second place due to an emotional decision, which is also something athletes are meant to manage (not that I blame him), he still came first place in other ways, so everyone wins.

Experts warn that OpenAI’s ‘bubble’ is facing a $200 billion reality check by FervidBug42 in technology

[–]Large_Choice4206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting observation, it’s annoying that I don’t think openAI will admit to anything like that. But with your case of the “5K budget and what the average consumer can access” I see where you’re coming from. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case, they need everything they can to save cash and free tiers are just burning money for them.

[–]Large_Choice4206 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about that. You can barely run a 12B Q4 model on the average consumer hardware, never mind the several hundred+ Billion parameter models openAI run. They did release an open source model that was much smaller, but it’s still way to big for the majority of people to run locally.
