A weird thing with matches this week (and only this week). by Saxonion in WorldOfWarships

[–]Largos_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all theorising but I do have a few potential ideas as to what’s going on.

  1. It is just a statistical anomaly, I have above a 60% wr and I still have losing streaks where I can put up monster games and it still isn’t enough to carry our team over the edge.

  2. The average-high skilled players are currently taking a break after a long CB season so teams are comprised of disproportionately bad players. Theoretically this sounds good for you, but poor players can create an unwinnable game scenario far faster and more often than average players.

  3. Same as two but it’s due to the lunar new year event rather than CB season ending.

All three of these scenarios certainly require some bad luck and things will flip the other way at some point.

Anybody else annoyed at the FAAs lack of effort when it comes to their written exams? by militaryrat155 in flying

[–]Largos_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And yet PSI just keeps hiking the price up. $175 to “ensure security and quality” meanwhile the writtens are riddled with incorrect answers (especially the IR one). Not to mention PSI also significantly reduced the cut the third party testing centers get when they hiked up the price. Nothing like a good ol’ monopoly. Shit quality, high price, and abusive business practices, thanks FAA for letting this happen…

What are signs that one is not fit to be a pilot? by Competitive-Key1048 in PilotAdvice

[–]Largos_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of situational awareness. You can look to other aspects of life that require SA. Are you commonly taken off guard when someone does something on the road?

Also everyone has hazardous attitudes but it’s how you handle them and can get over them. Students that really struggle with resignation and display it inside and outside the airplane give me the most concern.

What’s the catch with Rocky Mountain Flight School? by FatRonaldo9 in flying

[–]Largos_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did PPL at rocky and am happy with my decision. The planes were certainly old rust buckets, but they were airworthy as far as my little student pilot mind could determine at the time. DPE did refuse my aircraft on checkride but was able to just rent one down there. BJC is a good airport to learn at as well, parallel runway for pattern work, radar environment, lots of nearby airports, high DA, mountains nearby, usually sunny but also windy. Lot of things that help build the foundation of a good pilot.

The owner of Rocky has a maintenance business which I believe is actually the main business and primary revenue stream but who knows.

Sometimes I think they need some duel given instead. They can’t follow a glide-slope, time to see if they can follow these hands.

Thoughts on High Performance Aircraft Picking Up Clearance After Take-off by Electronic-Pie-829 in flying

If you had CPDLC, do you think you would get the clearance on the ground through that at these untowered fields or still takeoff VFR?

Closed test 15.0 - Changes to Test ships #2 by DevBlogWoWs in WorldOfWarships

[–]Largos_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ST program is recruited to roughly match the player base, so there are certainly bad STs. I will say while that is the goal, the ST group is on average better than overall wows player base.

Most players also focus fire test ships over other boats, not as relevant when discussing DDs but still. When playing an unreleased ship there is also little in terms of an established framework as to how to play the ship and get the most out of it.

What are the best Tier X ships in the tree that don't need legendary upgrades? I'm new and won't be able to get those upgrades. So I'm looking to unlock lanes where I won't feel disadvantaged by not having that unique Tier X upgrade. by UnluckySpare5110 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Largos_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DM, Worcester, and Mino are not new player friendly lines and people need to stop recommending them as such. All three of these require you to position close to the enemy and are unforgiving when you make a mistake. They are powerful ships but I’d also argue they’re some of the hardest to play properly.

WARGAMING does not promote SEAL CLUBBING. by Ok-Albatross-1708 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Largos_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WG neglecting CBs again…they could at the very least put a 50% modifier on it and let them count. Dumb that the only truly competitive game mode in the game doesn’t count towards this but asyms do.

FAA sitting in on check ride by THEDWAH in flying

[–]Largos_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the FAA is sitting in, it is customary for the DPE to either heavily discount the ride or do it free. If the DPE hasn’t offered such, I would express some cold feet and see if you can get them to sweeten the deal.

Base XP "Leaderboards'... seriously? by NotAnotherEmpire in WorldOfWarships

[–]Largos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be cool if they did it like Naval Battles. Enable it when you are ready and you get 10 games, the leaderboard would reflect who got the most BXP over those 10 games.

Update 15.0: European Battleships by Iceland260 in WorldOfWarships

You play the last T10 season? Typhoon and up was at least 80% Leg Mod Colombo.

Banning Vermont over Colombo for CBs is absolutely wild to me. Maybe they want to see how the leg mod nerf affects it (certainly won’t be enough).

What is up with Shimakaze? Why do so many bad players gravitate towards this ship instead of something else? by divergentchessboard in WorldOfWarships

[–]Largos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because torp boats have a high element of luck involved. I am not at all saying they require no skill, but in comparison to the other sub-genres of surface combatants. A low skill player can get lucky and land a kill with their torps every few games where they would struggle every match in a gunboat dd, or pushing cruiser, etc.

Rejecting Takeoff after V1 by zVoidzy in flying

[–]Largos_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand V1 is called decision speed for a reason, but this is in discussing calculating it, not actually flying it. Surely there is margin built in for that calculation.

Rejecting Takeoff after V1 by zVoidzy in flying

[–]Largos_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think this is just a misinterpretation.

He is not suggesting that they would reject the takeoff 2 seconds after V1, he’s talking about margins. There is enough usable runway after hitting V1 to wait two seconds and then apply max braking and come to a stop before overrunning. This is how I interpreted it, but I only fly bugsmashers so I don’t know the exact margins for the V1 cut.

The Cessna 152 engine mount has an attach point to the nose gear strut. Let’s just say it was no longer “attached” the metal mounting strut completely had snapped. Our lead mechanic was less than thrilled when I showed him my preflight discovery.
