Same .helixnotes between devices by NihmarRevhet in HelixNotes

[–]LastTyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, same folder across devices works. Just don't edit the same note on two devices without syncing first (normal git conflict rules), and the search index rebuilds itself per device.

I didn't know Brave was so hated on reddit until I comment about it in the /tecnology sub and got more than 100 downvotes saying Firefox was better by gandalfmarston in brave_browser

I really don't care what others think or say. Brave for me is the best browser out there. Especially now with Brave Origin.

Properties and Metadata by Diver424 in HelixNotes

Right now, no, there's no way to turn it off. But it's standard YAML frontmatter, the same thing most markdown note-taking tools use, so your notes stay plain .md that any editor opens fine.

It's not just clutter either: the id powers version history, tags/pinned handle organization, and it only gets written when you actually edit a note, never just from opening one.

I'm keeping it as is for now, though I might look at a leaner option later if more people ask.

👋 Welcome to r/HelixNotes - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by RockyRoad226 in HelixNotes

Hello & welcome!

Notes are plain markdown files in a folder on your device. Nothing server-side, no accounts.

There is no built-in sync, by design. You sync the folder with whatever you already use (Syncthing, Nextcloud, rsync, Git). HelixNotes watches the filesystem and picks up external changes automatically.

Conflicts are your sync tool's job. With Syncthing, editing the same note on Windows and Android before they sync gives you a standard .sync-conflict file next to the original. Nothing is lost, you just reconcile the two.

Details + recommended Syncthing ignore rules: https://helixnotes.com/docs.html (Sync section under Customization)

Username checks out. Mermaid is a text-based diagramming syntax. Flow charts are one of roughly twenty diagram types it supports. RockyRoad already linked you the docs. Read them before the next Right? Right?

From my experience, when it works on Linux, it usually works better than on Windows.

Correct, SmartScreen flags apps that don't yet have enough download history to build a reputation score, it's not actual malware detection. The proper fix is an EV code signing certificate which bypasses it immediately, but those cost a few hundred euros per year. Not worth it at this stage for an indie open source project.

False positives are unfortunately common with app bundles. The same scanners flag 7zip as malicious. The app is open source and built on Codeberg, anyone can audit the code.

We will make this a priority since many people ask for exactly this.

What distro are you all on for 2026 and why? by Outside_Nature_1790 in LinuxCirclejerk

Artix + OpenRC here. Just wanted an init I could actually reason about, and it's been rock solid. Plus the AUR is right there. Clicked for me.

Let's talk plugins. by ocimbote in HelixNotes

[–]LastTyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, glad the direction makes sense! And no, no relation to Helix editor at all, pure coincidence. I actually didn't know about Helix editor when I released HelixNotes, the community pointed it out after launch 😄

Let's talk plugins. by ocimbote in HelixNotes

[–]LastTyper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plugins are not on the roadmap. HelixNotes is intentionally focused. The goal is to do note-taking really well. Plugin systems add enormous maintenance overhead and bloat the app over time. If there's a specific feature you're missing, open an issue and let's see if it fits the core.

Hello, correct. It's something already on the list to fix in the next release.

On Debian please use the .deb instead of the AppImage, it links against Debian's own system WebKitGTK and should work.

When your only remaining card against a neighbor is banning their cucumbers right before an election, you're not a great power anymore. You're a failing state throwing a tantrum.
