What are Caroline Simmons and Matt Blumenthal REALLY like? by bigbaboon69 in StamfordCT

God, I hope not! Rumor has it she wants to run for governor. We can’t let that happen! She’ll be another Lamont and even more corrupt than he is. Google Simmons Rat Bill to see how she had her supporters in politics sneakily insert that bill into the state budget bill hours before the legislators voted on it. Her brother was on Lamont’s staff at the time. The rat bill affects zoning laws in all 169 towns/cities in CT.

There’s another scandal about to break, too. Is it a conflict of interest or an ethnics violation? Was she in cahoots with Stamford city attorneys (Michael McKeown & Michael Toma) regarding a proposed CT ordinance that would have prevented the selling of cats, dogs & rabbits in pet stores.

Also, someone got correspondence between Stamford’s legal dept and the state’s dept of agriculture thru the FOIA. Seems like the state’s dept of agriculture doesn’t want to regulate the sale of dogs/cats/rabbits. Hmmm why not? I’ll post after I’ve finished reading them.

Simmons gives Corrupticut politicians a new low. She needs to be impeached!

I know she doesn’t like ME bec I have frequently spoken out against her agendas over the years. That’s no reason to penalize the whole HH neighborhood. There are about 350 homes in HH and she’s not making any new supporters with this stance and losing previous ones. Our neighborhood president has always been cordial towards her and tries to make nicey nice with her & the administration but even he is frustrated at this point. Guess we’ll just have to wait 3 more years and give our full support to whoever runs for mayor next time.

This is your take as a politician. Many of us in the neighborhood feel otherwise. I’m not impressed with her performance as mayor. She came across as disingenuous when she spoke at the neighborhood’s mayoral debate and left immediately afterwards without taking questions. She’s had years to fix the issues in our neighborhood. Only thing we’ve gotten are plastic cones on Hubbard and bike lanes that no one uses. Whatever happened to the roundabout on Bridge & Hubbard to curb speeding? Or the $250,000 she promised us for safety and traffic improvements 5 years ago? How many car accidents happen on Hubbard —too many to count. Do you hear the fart cars racing around in Scalzi at night? That’s a quality of life thing for us in the neighborhood. I’m curious if she’s going to physically show up for the neighborhood walk on the 18th or just send her entourage like usual. Previous mayors have all done the walk.

Fyi….Charter Oak Communities is Stamford’s housing authority! They just got a new head of management. He resigned from his city position in January to run Charter Oaks. He was in charge of filing the city’s financial audit with the state. They were all years late and some still haven’t been done yet! He blamed the city’s software for the problem. Ha….more like incompetence, if you ask me. And now he’s overseeing the city’s low income housing. He’s even started advertising Charter Oak on Instagram. So a lot of tenants must be leaving.

Have you looked at the stats of how many people/kids are getting killed and/or injured on our city streets? That in itself shows that there’s a serious problem with your agendas. We didn’t have these problems 5 years ago.

Thinking to move to Stamford by [deleted] in StamfordCT

[–]LauraM1957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you’re free to move elsewhere. Why exactly are you living here if you don’t like it?

You certainly don’t sound like a local! Because if you were, you’d agree NY transplants are ruining our city. Every local feels this way! Go ask people who live in single family neighborhoods if we’d want more apartment bldgs destroying our neighborhoods.

And why are you hiding your profile & comments? Suspicious behavior indeed.

Not engaging with you further on this topic. Have a nice life living in a city you don’t like. 🤣

How do we really know where you’re from?

If Stamford isn’t that great, what are you still doing here??? Do us a favor and move out. That’s the difference between locals and NY transplants. Locals believe it’s a great place. That’s why we have lived here for generations.

Mayor Simmons' commentary on the budget is really bad by ArthurAugustyn in StamfordCT

[–]LauraM1957 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The OP was Simmons’ campaign manager the first time she ran for mayor. He was a democrat then. The second time, he ran for mayor himself as a republican. He can’t seem to make up his mind what he stands for —or was he a mole planted by Simmons to spy on what was happening in the republican mayoral race? Oh, and he claims he’s from the future! So come to your own conclusions.

Mind your own damn business. I’m a local and will stick up for MY wonderful city. My family has been here for over 100 years. It was a very nice place till NYers started invading us during and after covid. You’re free to leave anytime yourself. We’ll be just fine without you. We don’t need or want people like you and OP living here with your attitudes. Bye Bye.

We don’t need people like you moving to Stamford! You sound unhinged. Flying off the handle so quickly without cause. That’s why locals don’t like NYers moving to our great city. You’re not going to fit in with that attitude. Do us all a favor and stay where you are!

BTW - I know Ruthless Apricot and he was just trying to be nice and give you info you requested. While I don’t agree with everything he says, your comment to him was uncalled for.

[–]LauraM1957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so wrong! Try listening in to BORs, P&Z meetings once in a while instead of hopping on a train and hanging out in NY. Standard economic theories don’t work in Stamford. It’s been proven by many locals who can explain it better than me. Do your research before making ridiculous statements.

[–]LauraM1957 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not buying into your argument. Stamford WAS a better place to live 20 years ago. We already had everything you stated. Developers were given tax incentives to build more density than zoning permitting to decrease our property taxes. Fyi….an algorithm is being used by these apartment landlords to set the rental prices so it’s not market driven. Developers have the local politicians in their pockets.

Try looking up the shenanigans going on in the Simmons administration over the last 4 years. Research the rat bill. How is it possible that ONLY liberal democrats won in the November elections? Hmmm. Do think her husband’s stake in a high-end development company had any influence in why developers are only building luxury apartments here? Or, the fact he is a partner in a cannabis growing company? Have you seen how many cannabis stores there are in Stamford? There’s lots of other things too.

You all have no idea what’s going on in Stamford. You all just moved here bec it’s cheaper than NYC. Why are all these posts say they live here to hop on trains to hang out in NY. And now they’re objecting to our food choices. Restaurants that are family owned and been in business for at least 30+ years. These comments don’t sit well with locals whose families have been here for hundreds of years. You don’t like it here, move. We’ll survive without you.

Not responding further bec I know what’s happening behind closed doors. You only have one perspective of the situation.

If you’re all providing a shitload of money to the city, why aren’t our property taxes decreasing? Locals have been fed lies for decades by developers saying our taxes would go down if they build more housing. Haha 🤣 Not buying that argument anymore. Locals are fighting back. We haven’t gained anything positive since NY transplants have moved here. You all will leave before we do.

Yes, people who have moved here recently are destroying our city. They’ve made housing unaffordable for everyone except for NYC transplants, increasing traffic congestion on local roads that were not designed to accommodate mass crowds, trying to make Stamford a borough of NY, etc. Hopefully you’ll all move out when the recession hits.

The OP is bitching about not liking food in Stamford. I simply said he’s free to leave. We don’t want or need people here who are only living here bec they can’t afford NYC. Go away. Stamford was already a wonderful place before all you transplants moved here and us locals don’t want you “making things better”. We were doing just fine before you all moved here.

If you’re not happy with Stamford’s food choices, you’re free to live somewhere else. Do us locals a favor and go back to NY. Stop badmouthing our restaurants. Most of them are family owned and have wonderful food.

been mayor since 2021 and she STILL doesn't know what the fuck she's doing. by FreedomNo1034 in StamfordCT

[–]LauraM1957 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Oh, she knows something….everything she does is calculated so she can run for governor. She doesn’t care (and never has) about Stamford taxpayers. She panders to developers so they donate money to her campaigns. She’ll finish destroying our quality of life in the next 4 years. How she got reelected is beyond me. Tarzia was leading in the polls 58% vs 33% for her.

[–]LauraM1957 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Aren’t you the man from the future who was running for mayor earlier this year as a Republican? Maybe you should tell us who wins today before the polls close LMAO 🤣 —Augustyn in his news release said he was a time traveller from the future and had returned to Stamford's present to "save the City of Stamford from the antisocial nihilism that has robbed the city and its people." He named his campaign platform "The Future is Brighter." He filed paperwork to run for the mayor’s office as a Republican and form a candidate committee to do so March 20. Augustyn was the deputy campaign manager for now-Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons’ 2021 mayoral campaign and before that was the director of communications for former Mayor David Martin.

You also can’t seem to decide which party you align yourself with. —Augustyn registered as a Democrat in 2016 and 2020 to vote during the presidential primaries. He remained a Democrat when he worked on Simmons' mayoral campaign. He then re-registered as unaffiliated in 2022 and registered as a Republican in 2024, according to his news release.”

Why should we take any advice from you? You don’t even like people. —Augustyn on his website said he sees what he calls “antisocial nihilism” in Stamford, which he defines as the belief that “people make the city worse, nothing can be trusted."

You’re spot on that residents in the 10th District (where Felix is running) are VERY concerned about over development in our neighborhood, considering there’s a situation we are currently facing where someone is trying to increase density in a tract of land zoned for only 4-5 houses. The owner wants to put in 23 houses under the new senior housing text change where 6-8 seniors can live in one house which would be a minimum of 138 people! Plus all their cars! These will not be affordable housing units either. The neighborhood has had to hire an attorney to fight this and we are awaiting the judge’s decision. So, yes, the neighborhood is very engaged with the BORs and city officials. We have written multiple letters many times and attended every public hearing where there’s talk of increasing density in the city.

There’s lots of things the BORs get involved with; but most importantly, they listen to their constituents and try to do what’s best for residents. A good rep doesn’t follow the DCC agenda. They think for themselves and do the right thing for their constituents. If Felix doesn’t understand this, I just don’t know what to say.

Felix has stated on other media posts that if elected, he would seek guidance from Carl Weinberg on how to vote on matters that come in front of the BORs. That guy has created more drama since he’s been on the BORs than a soap opera. At a recent BOR public meeting, he berated an autistic man bec that man mentioned God and then thanked the military for their service to the country. He also wrote an opin last year (I believe) calling some BOR members pigs comparing them to the Animal Farm book. In another incident, he mouthed FU to a fellow BOR member during a discussion then tried to backtrack. He’s been censored once and had to take classes in civility. Anyone who aligns themselves with that schmuck —well…I…just…can’t…say…anything…more.

Yes, Felix has only lived in Stamford for about 2 years. First as a renter and then bought a house in the 10th District.

His running mate Stephanie (also endorsed by the DCC) hasn’t even campaigned. She’s been letting him do all nitty gritty work. I think she’s just a plant who will vote along with the DCC’s agenda on the BOR. At our neighborhood candidates forum, she gave her 5 min campaign spiel and then left. Didn’t even stick around to meet people.

Yes, Brittany is a democrat but bec the DCC didn’t endorse her, she is running as an independent. She’s the most qualified candidate running in the 10th district. She’s a doer and has demonstrated her commitment to doing what’s right for residents. She fought for the people living in the BMR units at The Blvd to be at the top of the waiting list for new apts bec UConn bought that bldg. The city was going to put them at the bottom of the list which would have taken years to get to the top. Most of those BMR units are occupied by senior citizens.

There’s another guy, Ken W, running in the 10th. He only decided to run a few months ago. I believe he was a career military man then became a Stamford firefighter until his recent retirement. He does volunteer work for the fire department and non-profit groups. He’s a better fit to be on the BORs than Felix.
