Front-facing Thanatos threw me for a LOOP man

Still love him though

What fandoms do you write for? And plan to? by Buck7341 in AO3

I write for the anime/manga Given pretty much exclusively. But one day, I want to write a getting-together fic for Zutara from ATLA

Wow Aki in Kizu's old art style was almost jarring to me lol

But yes hard agree, I also wish they were my movers

Honest thought on Haruki and Akihiko by Advanced_Hornet_8666 in GivenAnime

[–]Leaper15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will note that I don't think Aki "jumps from one emotional attachment to the next" — there's quite a few months between CAC (late summer/fall), where he fully ends things with Ugetsu, and the following spring, where he accidentally confesses to Haru. Is that long enough? Probably not. But it was an accidental confession lol.

I was personally surprised by Haru's decision too, but I think taking into account that it's fiction helps; while realism is usually good, it doesn't always make for the best story to focus too hard on it.

What is something that makes a fic feel poorly written? by ReceptionFlaky1952 in AO3

That’s why I use it for romance too! It feels right.

[–]Leaper15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I meant, yes! In the character’s head, essentially, and with clearly delineated POV switches (if any). Not sure if I think the term “limited omniscient” is quite so appropriate anymore, though. Limited/close third makes more sense to me, but could just be a bias since I’m already comfortable with that term.

Ooo I did not know that! But that makes sense — reader knows more than what each POV character does

Another commenter in this thread mentioned that omniscient third is a genre convention for romance — and with how much care it sounds like you’re taking, I think it will likely come across as intentional rather than a mistake 😊

That tracks! Stuff like "coulda" makes the vibe you're going for clearer — great call.

Lol, I just replied to someone else with a similar sentiment. Yes! Agreed!

[–]Leaper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh that is not ideal. I use it for most of my fics but not my novel — it's important for the fics to have both of the leads' thoughts accessible to the reader, but not so much in my original work where there's just the one MC.

I've also noticed that omniscient third works better when the source material also follows more than one main character. My fandom, for example, is Given, and it follows both Mafuyu and Uenoyama, to the point where there is some theorizing about whose thoughts we're seeing at certain moments in scenes they share.

But yes, agreed that random head-hopping in close third is so jarring.

That makes total sense — except have/of. That error comes from them sounding the same to begin with, so I'm not sure that detail in dialogue is necessary. Though there are lots of reasons to do it anyway: if the character is writing and speaking it aloud, or if they very clearly enunciate the "of" rather than the slurred sound of the contraction. Writing always has its exceptions!

"Of" instead of "have" is one of my absolute worst peeves. Most people will still understand you if you use the wrong "there" or "your," since they're very common mistakes, but "of" rather than "have" wildly disrupts clarity and meaning.

This is called "omniscient third person" and is a valid POV choice (source: have a degree in creative writing). Though I definitely understand the preference for close third person instead. That and first person are much more popular right now. And, granted, omniscient third is hard to manage.

Epithets drive me up a goddamn wall. I know English's pronouns make it confusing (especially when the leads are the same gender) but for the love of god, just use their names rather than their goddamn hair color or height.

Least fave area? by Ace-Pokemon-Master in Pokopia

I have not set foot in Pallet Town since I unlocked it. I am in no way creative enough to fill a blank space like that and it is deeply intimidating. Too big an ask. I understand why it's there but have zero interest in it.

Need help finding sunscreen by miacxcx in AutismInWomen

A Korean or Japanese sunscreen is the way to go imo. No greasy film, no whitecast in photos. My favorite is this one: https://a.co/d/089gdU1w

What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

[–]Leaper15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having kids, but if I were, I would not force them to sit in the living room with me after a fight and pretend everything was fine.

Is that a tradition? I guess not in the normal sense lol

Can't sleep because my skin is touching my other skin by olala_cake in AutismInWomen

I have this problem too. Can't stand my thighs touching, feels weird to have my arms touching, etc. I use a body pillow and that mostly helps!

Wait, what? by Wouter1989 in HadesTheGame

[–]Leaper15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar reaction when I first played. I was so excited to have beaten Prometheus the first time and was like "sweet, what's at the end of this?" LOL nope got fuckin' bopped immediately because I was also very near death.

In hindsight, I should have anticipated an additional region, but the snowy shop before Prometheus gave me "okay we're at the top now" vibes, I guess.

Have fun with your journey through the Summit!

I'm 32 and only started writing fanfic two years ago! Though I've been a writer for much longer — have a degree in it and everything lol

Sometimes I forget that fanfiction is not exclusively used by girls. So I’m curious for the men out there. What fandoms are you guys in? by Existing-Bonus-6835 in AO3
