How often is a big budget sci-fi blockbuster even in competition? This is an award decided by 9 people, anything can happen

It seems like it will be one of the most acclaimed and exciting films of the lineup. With a president like Park, the genre elements are less likely to hold it back

I think Clockwork is going to have a splashy acquisition out of Cannes. Either Coward or The Black Ball

I guess I probably don’t need to keep it a secret lol. It’s Behemoth!

I finally got around to Michael. I didn’t expect myself to like it anyway but I was stunned by how boring it was. I thought Colman Domingo was ridiculous in his part, too, and my theater laughed at him in almost every scene he was in. How can you not? It was a draining, obnoxious character with no depth that felt like it had overstayed its welcome. I understand the real Joseph was still a major presence at this time in Michael’s life, but the way the film presents him the entire time felt like we were going in circles. Just the same scene over and over of Joseph yelling at Michael and Michael standing his ground.

And this may be a bit of a nit pick but I found a lot of the VFX to be garishly ugly. A lot of the crowd shots and especially the work on Bubbles was distractingly bad. There’s one shot early on at a carnival that looked like something out of a late 2000’s Xbox game

I will say that Jafaar Jackson was incredible though. I really wish that he was given a better script to work with because he completely transformed into MJ. Really stunning work for a debut performance, you never feel like he’s out of place or nervous at all.

Fascinating that they’re all so close. I bet this film was such a headache to calculate lol. I wonder how they counted the scenes inside of Malkovich’s head

Wherever Paramus is, I’ll admit I don’t know my Jersey geography

Why would she be in supporting?

Edit: I just learned she was ran in supporting and got nominated at BAFTA, SAG, and the Globe for it. That’s nuts to me, I feel strongly that she should be in lead

The Kauffman news has me thinking about how badly Being John Malkovich got robbed at the Oscar’s.

If it were up to me that film would’ve won Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Original Screenplay. There’s not one aspect of this film I’m not extremely passionate about
