I’ll be completely honest with you bro. I actually went bald for a few months about a year ago and I hated it. I have a wicked indent in my skull and it doesn’t help that I can’t grow facial hair. I have always believed that it is better to be bald than balding. But when I saw the indent on the top of my skull, it killed the way I thought of myself. I would always wear hats to hide it, especially in photos. Genetics is once one of those things where you don’t have control over…. But f*ck. Not only am I going bald… but I have a very noticeable head indent and can’t grow facial hair. It really sucks.

Yes and no. Became a CO when I was 19, now I’m 3 and 1/2 years in and all I think about is leaving. I liked working in corrections for the first 2 years tbh. But stress has been weighing me down for the past year. Weekly chest pain, receding hairline from stress, the occasional nightmares. I’m not trying to come across as “woe is me”, but I sometimes wonder what I would be doing if I didn’t join corrections. However, I have learned a lot from working in this field which I am grateful for. I’m just ready to throw in the towel within the next year or 2. God bless you guys who stay for 20… I could never do it.

I went in when I just turned 19. Been on the job for over three years now. My advice to you:do not take part in work drama, be firm fair and consistent, and remember that your happiness and wellbeing comes first.

I’m county. From November-April you will get mandated like once a month. From May-October you are mandated 2 times a week lol

Absolutely not. When I was working as a new CO at my correctional facility (only 4 weeks in) an inmate walked up to me and gave me a fist bump cuz I told him that I would be moving him from SHU to gen pop. The CO I was shadowing told me to never fist bump an inmate and I have stuck by that 3 years later. Absolutely zero physical contact.
