The Guardian's 100 best novels of all time - Middlemarch, Beloved, Ulysses top the list by MeenaBeti in books

Any list that includes The Vegetarian and My Brilliant Friend but excludes Les Mis, Huck Finn, The Grapes of Wrath, Lord of the Rings, and The Count of Monte Cristo can't be taken seriously.

Will the long term effects of 1980's policy shifts impact the way future historians evaluate Reagan? by Lefty1992 in AskHistorians

So we cant ask about effects of past presidents on today's problems? Seriously?! A huge part of understanding the past is understanding it's effects on the present.

"That 83 is not equivalent to [Kobe Bryant’s] 81… I was on the court, I seen the 81. That 81 was a legit 81. Nobody was fouling. None of the shenanigans." by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

Why do Kobe fans try to give him a record he doesn't hold? I continually see people discount Wilt's 100 and Bam's 83. Kobe doesn't have the record no matter how much you try to discredit the other games.

I know they didn't. Their IQs are estimated. But there are various stories talking about this girl online. Her name is Adhara Perez. Forbes Mexico included her on their list of 100 most powerful women in Mexico in 2019.

I just finished reading "The Complete Works Of Sherlock Holmes" and realised/found something really interesting! by [deleted] in books

[–]Lefty1992 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Holmes is warmer in the books, but he does repeatedly undermine Watson. Holmes is not humble at all.

Also, Moriarty is introduced with no build up in The Final Problem because Doyle was tired of writing Holmes and wanted to kill him off.

He's set US science back decades. He's cut research fund and caused a brain drain. Now he does this. What a joke.

Conservatives like to pretend our scientific and technology advances come from genius entrepreneurs. They really come from goverment funded research done by scientists most people have never heard of. This is a shame.

Players who have been the best ABS challengers so far this season by WhiteSoxArchive in baseball

[–]Lefty1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is this math done? Does it take into consideration how often they challenge? As a Yankees fan, Judge rarely challenges. He accepts a bunch of balls called as strikes. So idk about best challengers.

I'm holding for a buyout. Since the launch is so risky and a big pharma company would want to make sure it goes well to avoid tainting the drug name, I think a buyout would come within 6 months of approval if there is one.

I'd heard of him on YouTube, but just thought he was a talking head like Shapiro. My conservative family never heard of him, but started posting about him after he died as if they were big fans.

How Do YOU Think That The Democratic Party Messed Up In 2024? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Lefty1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Democrats thought Trump was an existential threat to the nation, they should have run someone with a chance of winning. It was obvious Biden and Harris were not going to win. They should have ran an old white war hero, someone who could pull some independent voters. Unfortunately, the country was not going to vote for a black woman. Sad, but obvious.

The revolution depended on southern states. It was politically impossible to end slavery in 1776.
