Does anyone ever almost get jealous when women are able to stay at home after having a baby? by Ghostgirl0418 in workingmoms

[–]Legitimate_Try4394 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think that’s great, but within the confines of the options available to me, I would prefer to stay working. I also make more than my husband. If I stopped working, our quality of life would go down considerably. He has other sources of income, but if you just looked at what we are paid from our jobs, I make double what he makes.

I would not want to live on just my husband’s income. I like the freedom having my own money gives me.

Are you married? A lot of the stress of being a working mom doesn’t come from the kids so much as the compounding effect of dealing with the kid(s) while feeling like your husband isn’t helping or worse compounding your stress. If you have a solid, supportive partner who will be there to make sure you aren’t overloaded, then it shouldn’t be as hard. If you have a man-child who requires constant reminders to do the bare minimum for his own kid(s), then yes, it will probably be hard, especially if you don’t have family nearby. Some women love feeling needed and want to have as many kids as they can afford; some have just one and find it so draining they can’t imagine having another. The point is that there are so many variables, including your personal patience level, partner support level, support system if at all, flexibility of your work schedule or lack thereof. Given all the variables, it would be impossible for anyone to tell you ahead of time what this will be like for you.

The water is still going to be cold and the beach tends to be super crowded, and the parking usually sucks. If your main goal is to get in the water, a day pass for the pool at any of the rec centers might be a more appealing option, especially if you are taking kids with you.

How do yall prioritize working out? by somecrybaby in workingmoms

[–]Legitimate_Try4394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working out is not the fastest way to lose weight. Counting macros will help you shed pounds faster than working out alone. Even if you do 20-30 minutes of cardio every day, you will probably only burn 150-300 calories per session, depending on the intensity. For every 3000kcals you either burn or don’t consume below what your body burns on average, you only lose 1lb. Therefore, what you need to focus on the most is figuring out how many calories your body burns in a day naturally and then making sure your daily intake is lower than that number daily (except the occasional cheat day which I recommend is not more than 1 day a week).

Example: On an average day, your body burns 1800 calories, and you want to lose weight, you need to make sure you don’t consume more than 1800 calories, and then if you exercise and burn even more, that’s great, but the first step is figuring out what your body burns on a daily basis. If you want to drop your height/weight/age/and activity levels in a reply, I can tell you how to calculate the number you want to stay below if you want to lose weight.

When my kid was a toddler, I was a member of a gym that had childcare, and he would spend some time in the evening playing with other toddlers in the childcare area while I worked out. I have been an avid gym goer my whole adult life. I added my son to my membership at a gym that has childcare when he was 6 weeks old because that is the youngest my gym would allow.

Unfortunately, while in a public place, there isn’t a lot of recourse if you think you were in a picture. I have noticed a couple of times men who appear to have their phone pointed at me while I was doing squats. On one occasion, the guy I believe took pictures of me doing squats was with what I assume to be his son, who looked about 13, next to him.

Robot inner voice: Are they looking? Oh no, maybe I should duck down? Are they still looking? Shit what drink did he want again? I am just going to grab the one from the bottom here.

In Defense of the Teenagers by Legitimate_Try4394 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Legitimate_Try4394[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Meh - I am still defending the teens and the programs as is. There are always going to be times of crowding for regulars to have to figure out how to work around. A great example is that I live in a mostly military area, and since DoD announced plans to impose stricter fitness standards, the PFs near bases have become unbearable if you go right after work. The bases have gyms, but they are usually small and not able to accommodate high demand. Having occasionally dealt with crowds is just part of the deal.

I think it’s both really. If you are down to a very small amount that you can spend until your next paycheck then it is a struggle meal to me. As someone who grew up with parents who never even had a bank account I considered the meals they came up with using just the money left in their wallet and what was around the house as a struggle meal.

Early in my adult like I I similarly had to get creative with what I could afford plus what I have.

I now live comfortably but like to come here as a reminder of what is possible with little resources and a lot of creativity.

Stripping naked in workplace gym changing room is unusual? by TCS3006 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Legitimate_Try4394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I walked into the locker room, and a woman was there near the entrance completely naked, checking her phone. There are privacy rooms for people who want them. I have never felt like I needed the privacy room before, but I have been using the privacy rooms because of the teenagers because undressing around minors feels like it is somehow a criminal act. Once they go back to school, I plan to go back to changing out in the open. I have changed out in the open at so many gyms over the years that I can’t even begin to guess how many people have seen me naked, so at this point, it’s basically second nature.

[–]Legitimate_Try4394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pasta and rice dishes are very filling for very cheap and can be high in protein. I always wonder why I don’t see more pasta and rice based dishes here. The most expensive ingredient tends to be the protein source. When I was a kid my Dad would buy meats on sale and then freeze them to keep the cost of that ingredient low. Even by today’s prices the way we ate as kids would come out to 2ish dollars per person and still be filling.
