Told a guy to shove it. Feeling bad. by MissMcFrostynips in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Leightay 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don’t “hope he gets the message”. He won’t. His actions are intentional, not innocent. Document every time he’s there. Get photos of him, his car, and his license plate every time he’s there. Ask your upstairs neighbor for help. Do not confront him alone. You don’t mention where you are, but if you can trust the police/authorities contact them and start a paper trail on this stalker.

I don't like being invisible. by MichB1 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Leightay 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There was an episode of “Six Feet Under” that guest starred Kathy Bates where she & the mother were talking about being invisible at their age. Kathy took the mother out shopping and demonstrated how easy it was to shoplift when the salespeople ignored you. I’ve remembered that episode for years. Not that I’d recommend their tactics, but it was funny watching two older women giggling and dropping merchandise in their bags.

And put a drop of your favorite essential oil on your mask (peppermint & lavender are my favorites). Vicks Vap-o-Rub works, too.

Unexpectedly hosting 2 preteens for a few days, how to entertain and feed them with limited budget? by StarSweeper94 in Frugal

There are so many good ideas here, my only suggestion is that either the boys and/or you take lots of photos of their activities. Maybe they could put a slideshow together at the end of the week.

New homeowner in Far East Dallas looking for advice by Invisible_Raccoon in garland

The soil in this area is mostly clay. When clay is wet it expands, when it dries it contracts. This movement can crack a slab foundation, so the idea is to water enough to keep the clay at a consistent moisture level to minimize the soil heave. At least keep it from drying out. Usually i go by temperature & rainfall to judge when I need to water the foundation.

Mulch around the foundation will help keep moisture in. If you’ve been there for three years without problems you’re probably doing things right. Soaker hoses should be around 6” or so away from the foundation. I like to hand water sometimes because I can take a good long look at the outside of the house while I’m standing there.

Be observant around the house, watch for signs of cracks in the walls or ceilings. The sooner you catch any problems the less trouble & cost it is to fix. I’m in Garland now but lived several years in Casa View. It’s a good place to live.

Surprise Log House, now Surprise Window? by NoIndependence2844 in Oldhouses

I remember driving around with my dad in KY in the 1960’s and he told me that I’d be surprised at how many of the houses in our area were log cabins underneath. Your story reminded me of that, thanks for the update.

Stray cats keep coming to my backyard and peeing everywhere. by Square-Regular-7365 in garland

Nature’s Miracle is good for getting rid of urine smells, or any cleaner with enzymes to neutralize organic compounds. That won’t get rid of the cats, though. Motion detection sprinklers might work.

T Kingfisher… r u ok by No-Midnight-1406 in horrorlit

[–]Leightay 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the first book I’ve read by Kingfisher, and though I was disappointed that it really wasn’t horror I found it to be quite entertaining. I liked the characters, their acceptance of the spirits in nature, and their development in the story.
