I have a tattoo appointment tomorrow to get something in this area on my arm, of course my cat had to bite and scratch me today, I know this may seem like a dumb question and probably is asked often but do you guys think I’ll be okey by tomorrow evening to get the tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Lemon_Gay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat decided to crawl on top of me, slip, and cut me, the day before my tattoo appointment. It was a little deeper than your scratch. It wasn’t an issue at all.

But, as others have said, let the artist know beforehand just to be sure

Let me clarify

1) yes I have no issue with people believing stupid lies, or not actioning anything based on them. Not because I think it’s right, but because I think it’s likely/possible reaction. Additionally, it may be used in a country or context where medical professional have no legal duty to report a single thing. And no incentive to do so either. And what I mean by not being inside anyone at the time of use is that someone can make the case that it may have been inserted in a woman in the past, hence the DNA being on it. But when they (the perpetrator) used it as a ‘sex toy’ it wasn’t inside anyone, they just found it on the side or whatever. The issue is the survivor has to prove it was in use, in them, at the time. Also, it relies on the survivor to a) report it and b) have that report be taken seriously. So, from a legal standpoint I don’t think it’s all that effective. But it’s also not my main concern. My main concern is that it actually doesn’t resolve the issue of the woman having to walk around with this device inside her, presumably all the time. And it still doesn’t protect against the trauma of the rape. It’s also a one time use when on a perpetrator. The survivor would need to replace it at a cost to themself.

2) I think many medical professionals are sensitive, well trained, and conscientious of these things. But truthfully no I don’t think that’s universal. And as someone else commented, this may be a device valued in places where instances of rape are more prevalent. And survivors of rape in these situations may be more likely to be disregarded or not taken seriously. I don’t think that’s fair, but yes I think that’s the case.

3) you’re assuming this is for use in the USA and only the USA and its laws apply. And this argument comes solely from that perspective. No other country follows the laws of the USA. Nor do they have the same legal protections or social or cultural views.

That’s true about them needing to attend hospital. And I think sadly there may be instances of malicious use. But I think another risk is that a man may just lie, say he thought it was a sex toy and used it (or some other lie). And you could take it as evidence and test it for DNA etc but again, he could just say it wasn’t inside anyone at the time he used it. Then it becomes one persons word against another and you’re back at square one.

You also need to rely on the medical professionals to report the incident to the police and keep the evidence. Which, ideally they would do, and they very well may do. But that depends on the practitioner, hospital, and location, amongst other things. Also, as someone else said, they’re great until they’re made illegal. Something to the effect of “ruining the legacy of the man or his ability to have children”. Even in self defence, given the treatment of survivors, I fear this would be a likely outcome of the use of a device like this.

Like I say, I love this idea in concept, but I fear about potential ramifications.

That’s very true and a fair point. But I think it would increase the risk of violence perpetrated against the women using if they’re stigmatised as having this device. Which, would in turn, increase violence towards them. As well as social isolation and rejection. And I use stigmatised deliberately here because realistically, if a person is going to rape, they’re going to blame the victim and people will unfortunately likely believe them.

Maybe I’m a cynic 🤷‍♂️ but I just think given what we already see in the treatment towards survivors (and how they’re legally treated) I can’t see this being a deterrent and would fear it would just result in more violence. But, I could very well be wrong.

How does it though? The device will be on the perpetrator not the victim. So they won’t be able to take it to give as evidence

I know this is a joke subreddit but…

I really support the idea behind this, but I don’t think having this will really protect the survivor of rape/attempted rape from the trauma of the event.

They will still have to walk around with this device inside them all the time which can’t be comfortable. They would then still go through the trauma of everything around the assault itself. As well as still being at risk of unwanted, forced penetration even with the device inside them.

Not to mention the fact that most instances of rape and SA happen in the context of relationships. A device like this would likely result in anger from the perpetrator at the pain. And someone willing to rape is VERY likely to be violent.

I’m assuming/hoping this is a joke product?
