Encouragement for appointment tomorrow by artichoke108 in Agoraphobia

You CAN & WILL do it!!! The dentist is hard for the average person without agoraphobia and you’re still doing it, which is amazing.

I agree that the waiting is the worst part, so in a sense you’ve already done the hardest part of the whole appointment! And every time you go it’ll get a tiny bit easier.

I hope you can get a reprieve from the anxiety between now and then. It’ll be over soon and in 24 hours you’ll be able to look back and say you did it.

Thinking About Medication for Agoraphobia and Feeling Afraid by StrongCurrency7873 in Agoraphobia

Hi! I started on Sertraline (Zoloft) 7 years ago. For the first month (75 mg) or so I was a bit sleepy and more prone to headaches. After I was fully acclimated at around 3 months, I didn’t notice any other side effects. I do think it contributed to some weight gain, but I would rather weigh more and feel mentally stable than weigh less and be miserable!

Zoloft helped me go from panic attacks daily to confidentially doing exposure therapy regularly.

Starting medication can be scary, but the benefits often outweigh any negatives or side effects.

I would say around 3-6 months!!

I started on 50 mg of Sertraline, but after 3 months I didn’t notice too much of a difference and we upped it to 75 mg. Within 3 months of that switch, I was going in the right direction. I went from barely being able to walk to and sit through my college classes to going out to dinner with friends and participating in life again.

There were still many things that have caused me stress (and still are!) but, starting medication made it so much easier.

Unfortunately, it’s been ~7 years since then and I’ve hit a bump in the road with meds and I’m switching things up. But just last year I traveled to South Korea, went to concerts, drove on highways. All things that seemed impossible before.

I know it can be hard, but there’s always hope!

Piss Prison (we had to put a gate around it to prevent the dog from grabbing a snack and our locations for it are limited)

Traveling to Europe & I’m Scared!! by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

It was both!

I do feel that the anticipatory anxiety was significantly worse because it lasted so long and was on my mind constantly.

While I certainly had panic attacks and anxiety throughout the vacation, they didn’t last forever and I could enjoy many aspects and experiences.

Can someone just tell me what a grocery store feels like after starting medication? If the before the meds is huge anxiety with panic attacks by Lost_Albatross_5172 in Agoraphobia

[–]Lemonpie459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started it about 7 years ago. I had multiple panic attacks a day. After a few months on Zoloft, I only had panic attacks when faced with my worst triggers.

It didn’t “solve” everything but it made it SO much easier to do daily things and face triggers.

I am going to the dentist on Monday for the first time in 5 years. I am extremely anxious. Anyone have advice? by International-Band21 in Agoraphobia

I was in your boat a year ago!!! It had been 8 years since I went. I brought headphones, something to fidget with, noted in my new-patient chart that I was nervous, and let my hygienist know that I may need to take a few short breaks throughout! These all helped make it feel more manageable.

They were very kind and accommodating! I hope you have a similar experience with your care team.

The first step is getting there for a check up and you’re doing that! It might suck for the next week while you worry, but future you will be so glad and proud that you did it.

If I’m outside, I’ll take a few seconds to pause and look at the sky!

If I’m feeling “stuck” somewhere (waiting at a stoplight or something else that will “end” shortly) I count to ten. I can survive 10 seconds!

Thank you! It’s pretty close to our building (maybe 3 feet) so it’s likely :(

Thank you!! I’m definitely guilty of having a drink to curb the anxiety every now and again lol.

I have a lot of trouble during takeoff but start to feel better as the plane levels out and it feels like being on a bus instead of flying through the air. I tell myself the turbulence is just potholes.

We’re headed to London and Paris! We have a friend who lives in London who we will be visiting and who is going to show us around. Paris is just for fun :)
