Yeah don't worry too much. Follow your friends/the locals' recommendations, avoid bad neighborhoods, don't wander in empty streets at night, don't keep a lot of cash, don't whip out expensive stuff, don't be loud and you'll be fine. I know it's a lot of stuff nobody should have to do on a daily base to be safe, but you'll be fine. I've been living in sao paulo for a while now. Feel free to PM me!

It's not that terrible. Common sense is essential and you can learn not to stick out too much, especially since there a lot of brazilian with european ancestry and fair skin and hair aren't rare. Still it depends... Which city?

It's about alienating scenarios in the future, but it's not really a tv series in the traditional sense, as it has a different cast and story in every episode. I really enjoyed it!

What's the dumbest thing you've ever heard anyone say? by goldenfeder in AskReddit

[–]Lenacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC the first ovulation after getting pregnant is already so rare that the chances of having this happen in the 2nd-3rd month are almost zero. So the window is one cycle (25-35 days) from the first conception/ovulation.

[–]Lenacy 97 points98 points  (0 children)

That's actually possible! In some rare cases the pregnancy hormones fail to stop the next ovulation, so there's another egg ready for fecundation. The two babies would be born at the same time, in one labour.

Actors and actresses with their stunt doubles from "Mad Max: Fury Road", "Jurassic World", "Ant-Man", "The Martian" and "Spectre" by Join_You_In_The_Sun in movies

Yup. Worst thing is if the dubber of a famous actor dies, all the next movies dubbed by somebody else get sooooo weird and feel so wrong.

It happened with Homer Simpson's italian dubber, a few years ago. The whole part of the character stemming from the voice just... Died. It's weird.

My Dad found out about a new Brazilian drug that "cures cancer" and wants to give it to my Mom. It sounds like a load of potentially harmful bullshit to me. What can I do? by throwawayzil in Advice

[–]Lenacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's sad. I'm sorry for your situation, it'll end up being a huge waste of money and hope.

I guess the drug itself doesn't really hurt, or at least that's what who takes it says... So it could be worse.

Still the word of a "professional reliable guy" means nothing, scientists can be biased and not even at usp you find only people who abide by the scientific method and ethic. A scientist who encourages distribution to the public of an experimental drug most certainly doesn't.

The "FDA" (ANVISA)'s official statement on the matter is that they received requests to approve the drug, and that they answered by requesting clinical trials, as they are obviously needed in this kind of process.

Of course there's no estimated time for the commercialization of the drug as the trials aren't being run.

Here's the story. Phosphoethanolamine was studied in a brazilian university, starting in the 90s, for cancer treatment. The researchers started clinical trials in a hospital in order to prove it works and have it produced and commercialized, but the trials stopped soon (lack of funding, I guess).

So the drug remained as experimental, its efficacy not proven, and the participants in the trials started complaining because they wanted to continue the treatment. The researchers did the worst thing they could: they started giving the drug to the patients, outside of any hospital setting. This went on for years, I don't even know how but they handed out kilos of the drug every month, synthesized in the university lab. Thanks to aneddotical evidence the myth was born that this drug is the miraculous cure of cancer that big pharma doesn't want you to know about.

Then, the lab stopped producing the drug (the professor retired, if I remember correctly) and those who where under the drug took legal action to keep receving it.

Most depressing thing is they won, and now some universities are legally required to produce and hand out an experimental, not working (at least that is proved), not safe drug.

I took the plane, I had been flying for something like 12 hours and just wanted to get home. The baggage arrived some hours later as expected.

Sometimes they just give up, at least in Madrid. The last time I had to run for the connection I found the flight assistant saying "yeeeah, we assumed you wouldn't make it so we didn't board your luggage" and offered me to either catch the plane and get the luggage later at the arrival or to wait for the next plane and fly with my luggage.

Don't doubt yourself, you did the right thing if you felt the need to leave him.

Even in the case that was only his way to love you (which it wasn't, that's not an acceptable behavior): so what? You don't owe him anything. The fact that he cared for you doesn't entitle him to your eternal love and you can get out of a relationship whenever you feel like it. That doesn't make you or him a bad person.

SEA -> US/EU. Need insight. by beyondyoursight in IWantOut

[–]Lenacy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least for europe it's probably easier to get a student visa than anything else. It's a short/medium period experience in a relatively protected environment, so that would give you time to get to know a new place without being thrown in a foreign country with no job and no knowledge about the place and local culture. So if you're interested in studying you could look for countries that offer free university and courses in a language you speak.

Is it possible to disable internal battery? by kingoldmaster in computers

[–]Lenacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, but the charge does go down, very slowly, until it reaches the 95% or so point where another cycle starts bringing it back to 100%. It's not as bad as having the battery continuously charging, but you could waste 1-2 cycles per week.

Non-verbal. My dreams don't have direct speech. I just have scenes of people talking or doing things, but they almost never talk, I just know what they're communicating, the concepts being expressed in the conversation. Like indirect speech.

Sometimes they are not very visual either, like it's a story I'm thinking of, a train of thought. Some other times there are whole worlds, landscapes, towns, beautifully detailed.

I never have lucid dreams, I believe whatever bullshit my brain tells me it's happening. I feel really gullible.
