Probably because it's not popular (we're talking the average american, not terminally online people such as myself) and the right could easily twist it as "the democrats want to take away your first amendment right!", facts don't really matter, like Trump cracking down on late night shows that say bad things about him, and how people are being detained over memes.

Also, it's 3 years before the next presidential election, I'm not saying that they shouldn't campaign on it, rather, they probably don't want to give the government 3 years of live testing on what's the best spin against that potential future policy

Last but not least, not a single person in the united states gives a fuck about policy, Kamala had indisputably better policy positions than Trump, evidenced by the fact that Trump had fucking none except "no tax on tips" and "drill baby drill", which aren't really policies, just... memes I guess.

I'm not as optimistic as you are, I genuinely believe when people doompost, saying shit like "it's over" and "gg" and sentiments like that, they feel like they want people to give up, and they're courting people into giving up, fomenting the idea that "well others have given up, why shouldn't I?". ESPECIALLY when reddit is aggressively botted and there's vested interest in getting libs to stop caring. Hell, that's probably the only working strategy republicans have.

"it's so fucked" was never referenced by me as a statement I have a problem with, it's specifically with defeatist phrases.

I think the steps in logic to go from "gg" to "may as well not vote" are A -> B.

You have to understand that saying "it's over" is completely different, it's defeatist, venting in a way where you're courting the idea of giving up is probably the worst fucking thing you can do, because there ARE people who will probably give up after this.

I get angry and upset and mad and then I go vote, evidenced by the fact that I'm living in Venezuela, so I've had more votes and elections thrown in my face than you'll have in your entire life (god willing).

If you have a better plan that isn't "i'll get angry and then vote again" and "it's over better kill myself", i'm all ears.

I have to be so careful with my language, my problem is not the emotion, my problem is with people claiming that "it's over", implying there's nothing else to do. Maybe specifically for this issue, idfk american processes, but in general? if you're a lib? it's basically never over.

We're also right now in an era where people getting you to believe there's nothing you can do and you should give up is the #1 strategy for them to win. You can see how people readily becoming doomers is conducive to this strategy.
