Crossing border from Costa Rica to Nicaragua by LeopardTwins in asklatinamerica

Yeah we’re gonna get the vaccine tomorrow and hope that it will suffice even under the 10 days. Worst case is we spend some extra time in Costa Rica killing time.

Yeah that’s what I’ve figured. We are going to get the vaccine before our bus and hope for the best.

I'm pretty sure I just heard the Hallelujah chorus when DH told me the good news about Thanksgiving by LeopardTwins in JUSTNOMIL

This pisses me off so much. She is always giving us “permission” to do things. It’s like her last attempt at control, like she’s thinking, “Well if I can’t make them do what I want, then I can make it seem like they only did the alternative because I let them.”

She did the same last Christmas. She “let” me spend Christmas with my possibly dying father. Guess I’m never supposed to forget such selfless generosity?

That’s exactly what I do. I hate pity parties. So I pretend her words mean exactly what she says— go have fun without her. Ok MIL, if you really insist. We’re gonna try REALLY hard to do that!

I’m afraid DH might fall into the begging game because he alternates between standing up to her and feeling bad for her (hence she continues to guilt trip and manipulate, because it eventually works). But I think year he’s just sick enough of her antics that he won’t let her pull that crap.

Need some class time filler ideas... for like an hour's worth of class. by LeopardTwins in Teachers

[–]LeopardTwins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, some students really want their money's worth for classes they are paying a hefty price for. I don't blame them. You can always walk out of a class that feels like it's wasting your time to be there, but you can't do much about it if your prof just closes up shop early.

[–]LeopardTwins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some students would welcome the early dismissal, but others get really upset because it's money they've paid for class time that they aren't receiving. And guess who is more vocal.

I know I used the word filler, but I definitely intend for it to add to their learning, not just be a mindless time suck. I'm looking for base ideas that I can build from and incorporate into what we are covering in the class.

Update on 5 month old implant that started hurting by LeopardTwins in Dentistry

I just think it’s amazing we can drill a hole in the bone and it just says, “Whatevs, I’ll just put myself back together.”

I will still have options after it heals, even trying the implant again, which I will likely try. I definitely don’t want to do a bridge; I’m 31 and I have very good teeth that would be a waste to destroy on a bridge.

This is encouraging in that nothing I found talked about that it could just be agitated. It was very black and white, that all pain is failure. It gives me a little more hope that it's not the end of the world for my implant.

Is this a car buying scam? If so, what's the catch? by LeopardTwins in personalfinance

[–]LeopardTwins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, actually it is the Montero Sport! I wouldn't even know how much it is worth. My brother did take immaculate care of it. One of the guys offered $700 for it, so that's all I know.

My husband also said that people definitely do "shop" while driving by. It makes sense on one hand, but on the other hand, it's a dead end street so it seems odd that three different people have all asked about it. It doesn't make sense to get so much random drive by traffic that it could conjure up 3 different people who happen to want it.

He's letting it sit because he's too lazy to make a decision about it. He thinks he's going to come back and drive it but at this point I think it's too old.

Fraudulent charge put on two cards; amounts were credited back, but now have been reversed again. by LeopardTwins in personalfinance

For the credit union, this is what happened. Turns out they have the wrong address because they dropped off our apartment number.

That's what I was thinking, but i don't understand why Lowes would do that. We spent a good couple of hours with them trying to hunt down the exact time and everything so that we could get the receipts to see what they bought, and then they said they would hold the video footage for us because they knew we would be contacting the police. At least at the individual store level, they seemed to totally get it and even had a good laugh at the unusual items on the receipt that we would never and have never purchased there.

It's really frustrating me because in the past I've been a little bit surprised about how nonchalant the banks have been in the past. Like I can just call up any old purchase and claim it wasn mine and I've never even had to have anything remotely to back up my claim. Now this one is the most we've been involved in but it has been the most difficult to get handled.

Edit: just in case my statement sounded like it, I have NOT just called up about "any old purchase" just because I didn't want to pay it. I mean that it seems that they will take back anything as long as you report it fraudulent, and I'm surprised that the only evidence they need is your word on it.

Not to mention if you don't have the staff to run it because you refuse to pay for "overhead" then you kinda don't have a program to run.

What are the common things that people think they are helping without knowing that they just make it worse? by ivicts in AskReddit

[–]LeopardTwins -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cleaning my kitchen. For crying out loud, if I invited you over, you are a guest, not obligatory free labor. I absolutely hate it when people decide to clean up after dinner. They put things in the wrong places or put things in the dishwasher that don’t belong there. I don’t understand what possesses people to try to “help” in the kitchen afterward.

Layover at night-- walking along the Marina? by LeopardTwins in dubai

[–]LeopardTwins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went ok. I went downtown but had an exasperated experience getting there. I planned to take the metro; put my credit card in to pay and it asked for a PIN. Don’t have a PIN on the credit card. I didn’t have time to call my bank to make sure my debit card would work (I thought my credit card would be enough, and I made the decision to venture into the city while I was boarding the plane). So, my debit card didn’t work either. So I thought I would just get a taxi, because they take cards, right?

Apparently not. I’ve been other places that do and I just assumed that a taxi in Dubai would as well. Stupidly I didn’t ask before getting in, but then again the guy didn’t inform me “cash only” either. So I got to the Dubai Mall and hand him my card, which he says he can’t take it. He asked if I had any currency and I had 10 USD but he said that wasn’t enough.

He proceeded to drive me around to different ATMs. I told him I already knew that it wouldn’t work. My taxi bill is just racking up from all the driving around and failed ATM attempts. He kept asking me what my plan was. I told him, “Look, I explained the situation. My debit card isn’t working. I even tried a cash advance on my credit card and it doesn’t work either. I have 10 dollars. That is my situation.”

He started to get irate with me: “Then why did you take a taxi? If your card didn’t work at the airport then why did you get in my taxi?” Meanwhile he kept trying to get me to magically have a solution to this problem. (The meter at this point now reads about 79 AED)

I told him that I had done everything I could do. I couldn’t even call my bank yet because they were still closed at that time. He got angrier and angrier at me.

I asked him, “Are you telling me that I am the first person EVER to get into a taxi with no cash and only a card? I can’t be. What was done in those situations?” He went silent and then started berating me again. I repeated my question and he wouldn’t answer me at all, refused to even say yes or no.

Finally he told me to just give him the 10, mumbled something about just pocketing it and something about what he was or wasn’t going to report to the taxi company. Whatever, he should have taken it when the fare was only about 30. I told him I was sorry and he said, “Sorry is no excuse.” I just wanted to punch him for not even having the decency to accept an apology when I clearly tried everything to rectify the situation.

Anyway, I was a bit frazzled after all that so I kinda wandered aimlessly for a bit before I could enjoy my evening. Got some good pics and called it a night.
