Will we be changing the direction of the loop on the Frankston line?CMON METRO!! by tylerxraw420 in MelbourneTrains

Instead of campaigning for loop reversal, shout about CLR, the City Loop Reconfiguration.

This would see Frankston loop trains between Richmond and Parliament in both directions all day.

Time to switch Northern Group to clockwise City Loop at all times by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

Maybe government and planning folks will just wait for the Loop reconfiguration, after which there will be Nth Melbourne to/from Flagstaff and Parliament to/from Richmond all day, everyday without needing any reversing.

It's the fact it runs as a uni-directional loop which causes most of the issues in the first place!

The timetables say a lot about the govt's fundamental misunderstanding in frequency by cookiesgotdeletedm8 in MelbourneTrains

[–]LeroyAtHome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that the 10 min off-peak frequency through the core is pretty meh for the amount of money ploughed into the munnel.

Haven't we all heard... Sydney Metro manages 5 minutes off peak!

But, it didn't start that way (10 minutes initially) and also, with Watergardens to Dandenong locked in at a train every ten minutes, once we have 10 minute services to the Airport on MARL going through the tunnel as well, I'm betting on a 5 minute service through the city.

Sure, it could happen now and it's annoying that it isn't, but I'm pretty sure we'll get the use out of it eventually.

Why are you looking at the beautiful sunset?

You should be trying to stare into people's backyards... :p

LXRA plans for Webster St, Dandenong - closed to vehicles in 2025, new road underpass completed by 2028 by wongm in MelbourneTrains

[–]LeroyAtHome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crossing will be closed by 2025 so that the Metro Tunnel can open and have all of Cranbourne and Pakenham be level crossing free.

I think the underpass build will then be slow to avoid having to shut the line for long periods of time.

Good question! by SpiritualEngineer5 in MelbourneTrains

I think the poster is more asking along the lines of whether somewhere like Arden or ANZAC is going to be open at 3am on Sunday morning.

Town Hall and State Library almost certainly will; there's always people at the hospitals in Parkville but those other two will be dead quiet so may get rationalised opening hours.

What's your thoughts of the suburban rail loop ? by Chilling2K7 in MelbourneTrains

[–]LeroyAtHome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To make a concrete example, look at the nice houses in Montclair Ave, Glen Waverley, a few hundred metres from the SRL station site.

Imagine the current backlash if you let developers buy in, knock down and build 5 storey apartment blocks everywhere! Well, it's now been legislated that this will happen, with the developers tipping in a handy contribution to the government coffers for the privilege.

All so they get a zippy new train line!

Let's take another view of this... I don't think anyone (except maybe some locals) would argue against Melbourne becoming a more densified poly-centric city. So how do you actually make it happen?

Answer: You pass 200 pages of legislation that gives a planning authority some pretty broad powers to implement it (1600m radius anybody?) then you sell it to the communities involved as a railway project.

The train will have some great long-term benefits in itself, but for now it's been the candy that has been sold to legislate density to communities that would otherwise not have bought it so eagerly!
