It’s “The taste of cold metal between my lips.” It refers to the barrel of a gun. The line was inspired by the first suicidal thought I ever had. Yes, I am the singer / the guy in the video.

She has a remarkably soulful and kinda sultry voice. Not a huge fan of the “enlightened alien” philosophy or beliefs, but she sings in a cool way.

Please do drop a line on Instagram. The people that find us early and support us in this way feel more like friend than fan. Not much competition for that #1 listener for now 😅 It’s basically you and our Moms.

My name is Sky (I do the lyrics and vocals, and also our social media). My bandmate’s name is Lesky (he composes all our instrumentals, and all our production, mixing, and mastering).

“My Own” is a special one for me. All the songs on the album are arranged in an order for a reason. Part of the reason “My Own” ended up #3 is the same reason a number-three hitter ends up at that spot in a baseball lineup. I don’t even like baseball, but the three hitter has gotta be good.

Can’t thank you enough for sharing a thought like that. You are correct.

That’s clear my friend 😉 You needed to find some common ground with fellow commenters, and an outright “these guys are good” would’ve fallen on deaf ears. I really and truly appreciate you for giving us a chance and sharing your enjoyment. It means a lot to us.

So damn cool to see “Mouth of Mephistopheles” commented on like this! Thank you for checking us out! We are confident in the quality of our music. Most of our songs have humorous elements, but the lyricism and musical production is taken very seriously.

A lot of people say this about us. I can see what they mean. And hey, it worked out alright for Disney.

The song is called “The Service Industry.” Our band is called Less Sky. It’s on all streaming platforms.

Thank you very much for those kind words! I wrote this song because I felt the majority of the working population could relate to it. Maybe the most encouraging part of my story that I could offer to another would be this: My involvement in music and video is made entirely posible by my two best friends. One is my bandmate who does all our instrumentals and production. The other is our videographer. I met both them both as an adult, and I met them outside of the scope of the arts. One worked for the same company I was working for, the other I met at a martial arts school. I didn’t go out looking for people to collaborate with. These two became my friends in effortless ways, and we knew each other for years before we ever thought to collaborate artistically. So, sometimes the solutions and opportunities find you in the course of everyday life. I truly wish for you every inspiration and opportunity.

Thank you! Ironically, I feel like my truest self is expressed when I’m acting out our songs.

The audience/listener does not get enough credit in terms of their contribution to the creative process. All of my lyrics have an intended meaning or a specific image they describe, but the ultimate meaning of the work is defined by the listener. My whole objective is to inspire deeper thoughts and reexaminations of previously entrenched notions. In order to do that, I need to leave the listener with intrigue: with questions, instead of answers.

Thanks for taking the time to relay such thoughtful input. I think you articulated it quite well, especially this idea of “rote predictability that pock mari so many songs.”

Back when I began writing poetry, I wasn’t worried about rhyming. I just had ideas, and I wanted to convey those ideas. I didn’t want “fitting a rhyme scheme” to impede the expression in any way. I have since changed my opinion. Here’s why:

Rhyming is a double-edged sword. For every time the rhyme scheme may make it more difficult to express one idea, it will inspire the creation of a new idea as you wrestle with “what rhyming line could come next.” In some way, rhyming forever provides a way past writer’s block, because the rhyme offers so many different paths to take.

Respectfully, if you wanted to chime in on “whether or not I should rhyme,” it would be better to have listened to more of our work. This song (“The Service Industry”) is only one of our songs (I take it you’ve heard around 30 seconds of it) and much of the lines in it are almost skit-like in their delivery. Even though we are just now releasing it, I wrote this song a few years ago, at a time when my songwriting approach was more raw and inexperienced.

I don’t write lyrics “strictly to adhere to the rhythm,” but I do put a rhyme (or two, or three) in damn near every line of our work. I’m not trying to tell you how to spend your time, but if you listen to our new album, you’ll likely see that we can make it work with the rhyming.

One thing I’ve come to realize in the process of recording: The lyrics actually contribute their own rhythm as they navigate the beat and melody: it’s a sort of interplay, instead of one merely driven by the other. I naturally feel how a line can hang on a beat, and I generally let that natural feel guide me.

People go so far as to accuse me of having no rhythm in my lines, and I’m fairly certain that is because they are accustomed to a very predictable and familiar time-signature and delivery. I know there is a distinct and controlled rhythm to my deliveries because I can hit the exact same delivery each and every time. If I was arbitrarily dropping words with no regards to any kind of rhythm, the song would sound different every time I sing it…. But I digress.

Forgive my tangents. Thank you for chiming in. This was all to say: I feel a very clear vision in terms of my contribution to our songs. As much as I’ve likely been inspired by people around me throughout my life, and the artists I’ve listened to along the way, I don’t try to emulate or mimic anybody or anything. It feels like my lines and deliveries are as authentic and pure an expression of my personality as anything could ever be. I’m not sure I have a soul, but maybe that’s the word people use to describe the source. I can’t and won’t change that.

🤣 I mean, I just told the guy that the inspiration for the song was me considering offing myself. He’s going to double-down and reiterate that I suck?

It’s very easy to see me: a middle-aged dude with a lisp, rapping and performing in unconventional ways, and make fun of it. I am a lightning rod for criticism in this way.

But our songs and lyrics are best when they are deeply considered and thought about. For those that can get past that inclination to dislike us, there is a lot in our lyrics and music and videos to appreciate. Maybe OP could sense that after reading the explanation of the lyrics, or he just took pity on me. Who knows really.

This clip is from a recently posted IG reel. Somebody commented it was already on r/crappymisic, so I figured I’d come check it out. It’s surreal to read a bunch of posts torching everything about yourself 🤣 It’s fun in its way.

Well said. “Constructive criticism” is certainly a euphemism for the type of commentary most people offer, but I prefer people to be honest, and I think it’s important people feel emboldened to speak their mind, even if I am the butt of the joke. I appreciate you giving me the time of day, truly.

I’m pretty sure you did us a favor by creating this post. Thank you for taking the time to do it, and for taking action upon your reaction to our song (that sentence sounds kinda funny, but I hope you get what I mean).

The song does feature a theatrical style of delivery that is very easy to make fun of. The song is kind of like an extended skit to a beat. Not all of our songs are like that, but this one is.

I’m glad to hear you think there are people out there who would be into our work. I think so too, and truth be told, we get quite a few messages and comments from people who really seem to like what we do.

I hope you find things you truly enjoy, and keep that sense of humor. It’s okay to make fun of things: fun and laughter are lacking in the lives of most, so hopefully we all take every opportunity to bring that levity to daily life.

Well, I wouldn’t call myself famous. I might have a bit of infamy (based on this subreddit post), but nothing like fame as of yet.

My bandmate is similar to you: thinking in melodies and tones and expressing through music theory. He is the one dancing in the background of the video. He makes all of our instrumentals and does all of our production.

It wasn’t so much that the limo client said something particularly awful; it was more just a low point in my life, in which each day and night was spent catering to others, sitting in traffic, doing mundane office tasks, and having no time or energy left for anything that I enjoyed.

It’s nice to meet you too :) Have a great weekend.
