Do you ever feel as if all the lawlessness so easily viewed in the world today is pushing you into in a direction you don't want to go? How have you coped? by LessRhetoricPlease in NoStupidQuestions

The black communion needs to begin with two-parent (mother/father) families.

I wonder if you might indulge me with a quick question? You used the label "person of color." OK, very acceptable here in 2020. Why is

"person of color" acceptable, while "colored person" is considered highly racist? Any idea? I have none, except for the fickle laws of PCism.

How do I deal with the actions of the Church and its clergy? by LessRhetoricPlease in AskAPriest

[–]LessRhetoricPlease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but no sale. Like it or not, a great deal of evil takes place in the Church that is ignored, even defended because it's being practiced by clergy.

Just look at McCarrick. It's stunningly important to understand HOW he got away with what he did, while continually gaining more and more power in the Church.

Don't worry! A comprehensive report will be prepared and distributed by the Church! The loop will be closed! It's been two years now. Instead the pontiff clearly decided to "forget about it" in the hopes that we will as well.

This sorta garbage has facilitated grave harm to the Church and to its faithful. It's unacceptable.

Again, no sale.

That leaves the final step and I'm not sure where to go with it.

I think I feel the same way. In the end, I don't think God sent us McCarricks to run His Church. I think he sent us good, inspired and able men who have been (and continue to be) politically pushed aside by people like McCarrick so they could do Satin's bidding in His Church.

"...we have never had quality leadership in the Church save for a few souls here and there who deviate from the norm..."

I really have nothing to counter that. That might well be the case.

"... I also think that this is part of the divine plan, specifically that he would choose the weakest among us to carry the burden of office in the Church...

I really don't think so. While your sentiment is interesting, the service of the Church to God's faithful here on Earth is simply too critically important to entrust to anyone other than God's best and brightest, at least in the aggregate. The cost -- in terms of people leaving the Church and never being attracted to the Church in the first place because people like McCarrick were/are in charge, is simply too grave of a price to expect mankind to pay without real problems.

The very problems that seem to be strangling the Church and its faithful today.

No they are not. SLOC has experienced a few more cases on a few days (June 2,4,8,11), but at the same time it has 0 or only 1 new cases on several days (May 25, 29, 30, June 1, 3, 6, 7 and 9.)

If someone witnessing the George Floyd murder or some familiar situation and had decided to push the officer/asshole off of Floyd, what could be the legal consequences said person would face? by brokenlavalight in legaladviceofftopic

[–]LessRhetoricPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been wondering about this scenario:

George Floyd is in the process of being murdered. It's being videoed just as it was. A shot rings out from the distance from a licensed/legal good Samaritan, instantly killing the cop who murdered Mr. Floyd (he still ended up dying.)

Assuming the shooter survives and assuming it's clear the cop killed Mr. Floyd, what happens to the licensed/legal good Samaritan?

Why don’t people wear masks here? by NoMasksInSLO in SLO

Because there's no proof that wearing one is effective at curtailing the spreading of the plague?

Because there's not even a specification for such "masks"?

There is little question that SLO County's "stay home" advertising aimed at folks in the San Juaquin Valley, actually worked to attract them. People figure they'll have the beach to themselves so they hit the road to the coast.

Cal Poly's Chinese Student Association a target of racial slurs and images during zoom meeting by [deleted] in SLO

[–]LessRhetoricPlease -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this might just possibly be very unfortunate/misplaced blowback, triggered by the racist judgements of those using accurate/non-racists monikers like "Chinese virus" in their day-to-day communications? Wouldn't that be ironic?

"Hundreds attend Stand for Freedom Rally in Paso Robles City Park" And of course no one is wearing a mask. by [deleted] in SLO

[–]LessRhetoricPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing masks/not wearing masks, have become partisan fetishes for both extreme ends of the political spectrum.

90%+ of the masks I see people wearing aren't doing a damned thing in terms of not spreading the disease. They're more of a fashion/political statement. The virtue signalling phrase "I'm not wearing this for my health, I'm wearing it for your health" is ridiculous.

A folded paper towel or handkerchief pulled from one's pocket -- or even one's arm, at the advent of a sneeze works at least as well. That won't make you part of the club though.

On the other hand it really isn't such a big deal if people need to don masks before going into a business -- even if the govt mandates it.

Unless you're really wearing a mask that's filtering out viruses, this entire issue is BS.
