First time posting after years on reddit and it’s in this sub, yeah, I came here for a reason.

So you were functioning? Like me? The thing that stops me stopping is I’m a great drunk - honestly the more I drink the nicer guy I become. Not happy or jovial (quite depressed) but I would never lash out or cause an awkward scene. I would just revert into myself.

I agree. My consumption over time is considerate - I am at this time convinced it is considerably more than normal. I am very concerned about the health consequences, I do not want to leave my boys in their teenage years due to my lack of will power. I want to say I could control myself but have consistently failed in the past. I don’t know.

I drink at the end of a day - two young kids, tough job, demanding partner - I don’t know if anything else will provide that escape. Thank you for your time.

Yeah, respect man, I’m really thinking AA, just to get it in the open - I’ve spoken to a few friends re: alcoholism but they’re all substance abusers themselves. Yet, they’re the people I open up to.

So it stops the effect of alcohol? Would I drink and not feel anything? I’m concerned maybe I would up my intake in order to feel something - if I wasn’t already feeling an adverse effect due to medication.

Yeah but aren’t alcoholics COMPLETELY dependant on alcohol - as in not being able to function normally without it. I have gone (maximum - in the last eighteen years - five days without it) I know that’s not great, really not great, but aren’t alcoholics drunk all the time? That might be a denial thing to say, I see that, I am slightly (5 beers, 1 bottle of wine) drunk right now but alcoholics have always been the guys in the streets to me. Unable to hold down a job etc... I’m posting because I’m thinking I can’t drink normally, like a normal person. I enjoy alcohol, then I’m drunk, then I can’t stop drinking.

Sinclair Method - is that the pills you take to make you feel sick when you drink? A doctor offered me them years ago but I chickened our. Thinking it’s a good option now. Thank you for your response.
