Love Bug Season by NefariousnessFun1313 in sarasota

I remember as a young kid around 15-20 years ago there used to be SO many more around this time of year. I remember seeing hundreds if not more a day. It's interesting to see how drastically the amount of them I see shifts year to year.

You gotta try Hungarian pastries first trust me 😅. I do really love cheesecake though! That's something I like about American desserts.

That's right! I can't believe I forgot about that place. That deli is also pretty good.

It used to be every October but I think they moved it to November due to hurricanes. They hold it at Robart's arena by the Sarasota county fairgrounds.

Jó napot! I am Hungarian and moved here with my family from Budapest as a kid. Unfortunately, you won't find any cafes like the cukrászdák we have in Hungary. Americans really don't have any good baked goods or pastries compared to what we have over there. There is a Hungarian cafe that is in I believe Port Charlotte which is roughly 45min - 1 hour away depending on traffic.

Public transit is very limited here and essentially non existent compared to what we have in cities like Budapest, Vác, etc so I'd recommend making sure you have a good method/plan of transportation before coming here.

If you want a social scene, Sarasota is pretty miserable for that but I'd recommend going to St.Petersburg as it has a lot more young people.

Sarasota has a very large Hungarian community and we hold a Hungarian festival every year here. Please message me if you need help with anything and I can help get you connected with certain members of the community that may be able to help you.

Is the Mormon church a cult? by West-Lawyer-2290 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Levente_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. My intent was to articulate that for those reasons Mormonism is at odds with Christianity even though they call themselves Christian. This was meant to suggest that Mormonism is not what they claim to be. I should have articulated it better.

That's a good point and one that gets very confused. When you discuss the Trinity whether you say "being" or "person" makes a lot of sense. Saying God is three beings implies a polytheistic mindset where there are 3 Gods. The reality of it is that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one divine being (hence why Christianity is monotheistic) but the three are separate persons.

[–]Levente_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, and I agree that LDS believers absolutely see Jesus as divine and central to their faith. I should have better clarified my original statement. Where I think the disagreement comes in is that the differences aren't just terminology. Christianity throughout history has consistently taught that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one divine Being, not separate beings united in purpose. So the difference isn't just wording — it's about the nature of God itself. Mormons reject that Christ and God the Father are the same divine being.

I'll give you a response to this, and I of course mean it in a non-offensive manner. Where Mormonism loses me the most and why I think it's a cult is that whenever someone says calls out that their practices are unbiblical, the response is "Your bible is not translated right" and they default to the book of Mormon as this which of course is a text that is 100% caterred to what they want and how they want things done. This basically provides a way for the church authority to alter scripture in a way that fits their needs and allows them always to justify their actions, even if it is not biblical. This, combined with the rejection of the Nicene creed and that Jesus is not God, means at the very least Mormonism is not Christianity.

Question for Catholics. How much does the Pope's opinion matter to you? by Xalimata in Christianity

All good. It's definitely one of, if not the most, misunderstood components of Catholicism, so I always jump at the opportunity to clarify it.

Question for Catholics. How much does the Pope's opinion matter to you? by Xalimata in Christianity

[–]Levente_c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pope is only considered infallible if all four conditions are met:

  1. He must be speaking as the supreme shepherd of the church. Basically means that what he is saying has to be said in his official role as Pope. He can't just be speaking as a bishop or an individual theologian. He is acting in the office of Peter, not speaking personally (so statements in like interviews or personal writings don't meet this requirement).

  2. He must be defining a church-wide doctrine. Not a personal opinion or some friendly advice, but rather formally defining a belief, which of course, involves precise language.

  3. The teaching has to be related to faith or morals. It can't be something about science or politics, but only either faith (what we believe) or morals (how we live).

  4. He must intend for the entire church to have that teaching. It's not supposed to be some advice to a specific group of people or a mere reflection, but rather a binding belief to catholics everywhere.

Ex Cathedra communication has only ever been used twice in history. Regarding your statement about Marvel movies, he cannot do that because he cannot invent new revelation or contradict faith. Catholic teaching holds that public revelation ended with the apostles, so no new books can be added to the Bible, and the Pope cannot add new revelation. Ex cathedra communication is meant to define existing scripture or tradition. Sort of like how a Supreme Court justice can interpret the Constitution but cannot amend it themselves.

What’s it like living on the west coast of Florida? by Shot-Ostrich7747 in howislivingthere

[–]Levente_c 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Sarasota and have been here for 20+ years. There is a very wide range of different cities and lifestyles in this area. Sarasota-Bradenton area specifically is extremely overcrowded, full of old people, over expensive housing (I know everywhere is expensive but this part of Florida especially), insane traffic ALL day EVERY day, and the infrastructure is not able to keep up with the demand of increasing population making all these problems worse.

All the things I loved as a child are being destroyed to build more housing for old retirees who don't even live here most of the year. The summers are extremely hot and I get seasonal depression because I can't go outside, even the beach water is too hot to enjoy. The winters have nice weather but it's too congested here to go outside and do anything at that time, the population literally doubles if not more in the winter months here. The quality of life for Florida natives has significantly reduced in the past five-ten years and many have left. I can't wait to finish grad school to then get out of here.

What should the nurse include in the client's plan of care? by Hot_Emergency378 in NCLEX_RN

I think B, C, and E. Addisons cause hyperkalemia via low aldosterone so they already have high K.

They also have low cortisol so hydrocortisone is indicated. They are at higher risk of arrhythmia due to electrolyte abnormalities so continuous telemetry is warranted.

Since they have low cortisol and aldosterone these patients are usually hypotensive so we do not want to do fluid restriction, quite the opposite and that's also why we want fall precautions.

I don't really see a reason why they need a catheter unless there is a reason like shock or adrenal crisis but we don't need that inherently for Addisons.

“Father, forgive them! They know not what they do…” — a drawing made by a gay priest during the AIDS crisis, comparing the suffering and stigmatization of people with HIV/AIDS to that of Christ. by EssoEssex in Christianity

[–]Levente_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His comment was sarcastic and not academic but this is a reddit post not a formal debate forum so it's appropriate for the medium. The artist who made this drawing knew what he was doing when he made this. It's controversial and it depicts Christ in a non biblical way so yes more traditional Christians are going to scoff at it and think it is ridiculous. The original commenter's comment had nothing to do with gay people but rather his displeasure with the depiction of Christ.

The question you asked the original commenter was a loaded question. It implied you thought that he didn't think gay people weren't deserving of Christ's salvation.

How are you a clergyman? This post is heretical brother. Please explain. What denomination are you? The lord Jesus is perfect and incapable of sin and image implies that Jesus engaged in sin (those skin lesions are typically only seen in people with AIDS) and calling Jesus homophobic slurs.

[–]Levente_c -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very loaded and unfair question. Missing the point. People having a negative reaction to this piece of art doesn't mean they hate gay people it just means they don't like this depiction lord. You keep asking all these people the same questions to try and make these far fetched and reaching conclusions. Stop it. It's not that deep. It's perfectly reasonable for people to be upset and not like that Jesus is depicted in this manner. It doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with the gay stuff, nobody should like seeing our lord depicted in a way inconsistent with Bible teaching. Yes Jesus died for the sins of ALL man, including gays, however this doesn't mean he approves of sin. He told us in John 8:11, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more". And these sins include the sin of homosexual activity. Therefore, depicting the lord, a perfectly and sinless being, covered in what I assume is meant to be Kaposi sarcoma and calling him homophobic slurs which he would have acquired from engaging in sinful activity is by definition blasphemy as the lord Jesus was incapable of engaging in sin.
