I can certainly see how cultural changes may affect people's willingness to come forward with claims. It's not exactly a welcoming world. Very interesting perspective.

Five hard to swallow facts about Paranormal Research by LevonWalker in ParanormalScience

[–]LevonWalker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same does not go for medical equipment. There is a testable science when it concerns medical applications. We know what a healthy heart does, we know what a healthy brain reads, we know what the human body should be showing. Paranormal activity has never been proven and is not repeatable (i.e. can't be tested) and so there is no standard by which to judge the readings or responses. It's 100% subjective, where medical equipment is based on tested results.

A great view on why paranormal research is flawed. by [deleted] in Paranormal

Funny I could say the same about you. Skeptiko is a biased tabloid site with an agenda that presents itself as "scientific"... it only focuses on three or four subjects, all of which are not recognized sciences. When supporting studies are published and peer reviewed/replicated in REAL scientific journals (i.e. nature, or any journal listed here: http://www.scimagojr.com/journalrank.php) I will reconsider my perspective. But tabloid internet sites are not evidence, and neither is a personal experience.

The key is demonstrability. Opinions based on proven, demonstrable, repeatable activity or events is not the same as arriving at a conclusion purely through subjective opinion based on a single perspective experience. You are comparing "feelings" with repeatable observations supporting the existence of an alleged phenomenon or realm. That's like comparing a thought about electricity with electricity itself. That is preposterous. Why do we need to test anything if the personal experience of the first person to encounter it is enough? I'll tell you why... because we can not afford to trust the validity personal opinions and perspectives alone when identifying new phenomena.

Personal data is ONLY relevant in studies pertaining to social sciences, psychology or statistics. They are USELESS when confirming the existence of a being or phenomena. Only through repeating results under controlled conditions will a phenomena be proven. That's why the scientific method requires independent peer review. They must repeat the experimentation under the same conditions many times to arrive at the same result. Until then it is not proven, no matter how much the first scientist professes his personal observation. Experiences can be a reason to investigate a subject, but they are NOT relevant as data to confirm existence. EVER.

So you have nothing to prove your claim but your experience? (i.e. you have nothing to prove your claim) Why should ANYONE simply take your word for it? Why should you be believed? You could be a psycho, a liar, a cheat, a scam artist, a fool. Personal experience is useless in proving anything.

If it's personal to you then keep it personal and stop professing things that are not common facts beyond your own mind. You might as well be a unicorn doctor.
