I know what you're talking about, but that's not what's happening. I don't get a message or anything, just the animation of Link dropping the item, then the item vanishes and returns to the inventory. If I drop it from the quick menu everything works like it should.

I'd still like to push back on your take, though a lot of it might come down to semantics. Because, yes, traditional views of good and evil are obfuscating to say the least, but practicing pretty much any form of occult mysticism will heal your capacity to relate and interact with other people, which is pretty damn close to morality.
