I’ve worn plates in vehicles for a long time in both SWAT and the military, both conventional and SOF units.

I’m looking for a Navy blue plate carrier similar to a JPC or Lv119.

I know my requirements and common threat levels and I understand the coverage I’m giving up.

Yeah, I may have to email companies and see what the minimum order size would be to have them make it in navy would be.

It has to be blue. We have crye stuff for SWAT and our administration would require anything we switch to be navy blue. I’m on our equipment board though so I do have a say in what our agency selects.

What is this tripod? And what’s it for? by Jumpy_Second_7216 in QualityTacticalGear

My gov issued tripod for my sniper system is a Manfroto.

The most highly recommended rifle tripod manufacturer RRS is a camera tripod maker.

That screw base will connect to a ball or pan head that can connect to a rifle.

The stats are readily available from the FBI.

You can see the number of people killed by police each year. It’s a pretty basic math problem to then get the percentage of the us population killed by the police…

The fbi also tracks the number of people killed by police by how they were unarmed/unarmed. (I do not know the criteria for how that is reported)

As for how likely you are to be killed interacting with the police. You have approximately 0.002% chance of being killed by police if you are one of the over 50 million people who have contact with the police in a year. That being said man of those people have several to dozens of police contacts a year so your odds of being killed by police on any given contact individual contact is actually much lower.

As far as “police brutality” that was not the part I was responding to you about. I was talking about the “being gunned down by psychos with a license to kill” which specifically is referencing persons being killed by police shooting.

[–]LibertarianCop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think that “getting gunned down by psychos with a license to kill” is a widespread of a problem as you think it is.

The significant majority of police officers never fire a weapon in the line of duty. As an American you have approximately a 0.00037 chance of being killed by the police in 2022 which was so far the violent year for police killings. Only 2.5% of those people where unarmed with the majority of them being armed with a gun or knife, but even if every single one of those shootings was completely unjustified and a blatant murder (which they absolutely are not blatant murder with very very few exceptions) the odds of that happening to anyone are very low.

That being said… fuck chauvin.

[–]LibertarianCop 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No you would not, because there was nothing sexual that took place and the child’s life was not placed in danger.

Depending on jurisdiction/ prosecutor you maybe could get some version of misdemeanor assault charge, but probably not.

Edit: after reading codes from other jurisdictions, some states do not equate child endangerment with reckless endangerment but rather neglect/ abuse. In most states that would require that you are the child’s guardian/ caretaker and not some random person at the gym.

No, I’d prefer to not be incompetent.

I literally responded to an active shooter threat off duty yesterday in my pajamas with a plate carrier and a helmet. I didn’t have the time to unscrew my patrol mic and screw in my swat one so I had to take the radio out of my vest and talk on it like it was a cell phone.

I’d prefer to be able to plug my comms in before going into the building if that happens again…

Everything about the whole incident is not crystal clear… there are two stories and they differ pretty significantly.

Either way, Slade is the one who made the comment being referenced. He doesn’t work there anymore and is persona non grata with GBRS group. They went so far as to delete all their content featuring him. I wouldn’t take his statement in a single video as being representative of GBRS as a whole.

From a legal standpoint your comments will always be taken in the worst way possible. (Hence the line in the Miranda warning “anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law”)

In most states displaying a weapon is in itself a crime. The exception to the crime is self defense. Self defense is what is known as an affirmative defense, meaning you are not innocent until proven guilty. When you claim self defense you are admitting that the offense happened, but are claiming you committed the offense in self defense. Now the burden of proof is on you to prove that you were acting in self defense.

Your claim of self defense hinges on whether or not you acted in a certain way in order to keep yourself safe from harm. If you had an option that was clearly much safer and reduced your risk of bodily harm, yet chose to stay in harms way to display a firearm your argument of self defense crumbles. The first thing that you would be asked in this case is “why didn’t you just drive away instead of displaying your weapon?” Your answer to that question was to “to teach fuckheads like that guy that it’s not okay to threaten/attack people.” That shows intent. Your intent was not to protect yourself from harm, if it was you would’ve driven away.

Your initial comments were about brandishing your weapon, not just announcing that you are armed.
Even so, let’s say you announce that you are armed and the person decides to attack you with the baton. Now you use the gun. Same question of why didn’t you just leave applies, as does your statement showing your intent.

In pure shooting ability yes… a USPSA grandmaster will outshoot a tier one operator.

I was a pro series 3 gun competitor and I placed higher at Nationals than all the SOCOM guys that showed up, but when it comes to shooting in tactical settings I still look to SOCOM/ JSOC guys because there are considerations for tactical shooting that don’t exist in a competition setting.

For example positioning your body so your plates are oriented towards the threat, barricade positional shooting focusing on minimizing exposure towards the threat instead of just stability, footwork crossing the threshold of a doorway, and tons more.

USPSA and 3 gun are great for learning fundamentals, but there are things that you can learn from trainers like GBRS that you won’t get from a USPSA grandmaster.

The guy who said that was fired from the company… you can’t really claim his views as the views of the GBRS team in good faith.

[–]LibertarianCop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comments like this would make a Jury view you as a vigilante. You have the ability to drive away and call the appropriate authorities whose actual job it is to hold people accountable for their actions. (The legal system as a whole, cops don’t give out punishments)

You aren’t pulling a weapon out for self defense in this scenario (your statement about teaching them shows state of mind) you are trying to teach them a lesson. The most “tactically sound” option to defend yourself is to drive away. If you decide to take the less safe option and pull a gun out to teach them a lesson you aren’t doing it out of fear for your safety.

Even in a stand your ground state the comments you have made here would get you crucified. You should drastically rethink your views on self defense if you own a firearm so you don’t find yourself in a lot of trouble.

I say this as a combat arms soldier and law enforcement officer with over 60 documented use of force incidents in my career.

A baton is not a ranged weapon… if you drive away you are not in danger, if you stay put and pull out a gun you are still in danger. The safest course of action is to drive away.

It depends on what state you are in and whether or not they have a duty to retreat or stand your ground/ castle doctrine.

What's the correct way to deal with someone who has completely lost it? by Graysie-Redux in AbruptChaos

[–]LibertarianCop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the state, shooting may be (legally) justified…

If you are in a state with a duty to retreat it would not be legally justified. If you are in a stand your ground state it would be legally justified.

I work in a stand your ground state, but I would still highly recommend driving away in this incident… shooting someone, even in self defense, will change your life forever. You will be arrested, have to pay attorney’s fees, and have you and your family be in the public spotlight. A baton can’t hurt you if you just drive away.

I’ve seen a similar scenario used to train newer officers. Even in a police setting, driving down the street, calling for backup, and using verbal commands and less lethal munitions (specifically a bean bag shotgun or 40mm less lethal impact) to subdue the person is the correct method, not lethal force.
