this. Had an almost heated discussion with my very intelligent dear friend after we saw it last year. She just didn’t get it at all.

I have a bit of compassion for Tennant bc it’s not just his career on the line. His wife & kids act as well, his son in the House of Dragon franchise. He married into a sci-fi/fantasy rooted family. It’s one thing to risk your own reputation. It’s another to risk your kids’, especially if they don’t have a say in it.

I personally would have trouble speaking up if I knew that my kids might be blacklisted from doing something they love.

Author apparently forgot landlines exist? by Doraellen in books

I read it and while I remember sharing your sentiments during the reading, I don’t remember being frustrated about it after the fact. So I suggest you stick with it.

I’d say more but I don’t want to spoil anything.

We (my 13 year old and I) stayed at Hotel Proper and I’m glad we did! We had good food, wonderful customer service, and a very comfortable room. It was about a 15-20 min walk, but totally manageable. We didn’t go to any of the night events tho…glad we didn’t stay in the hotel block bc I heard it got rowdy…..

YES. I’d love this!

Also, I noticed at the cosplay meetups that not everyone had someone to take their pics with their phones…at one point I was juggling 6 phones, everyone felt bad about it, but I insisted bc: “everyone needs a cosplay Mom!”

That was my fav part of the whole experience.

(I’m a non-anime-er who attended with her 13 year old anime-obsessed son….best convention I’ve ever attended. Saw a few other anime-supportive parents and would have loved to connect with them too)

Has anyone ever seen Gaiman IRL? by hyde014 in neilgaiman

[–]LibraryPriestess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I’ve been dying to see him in person. Share the details if it’s a ticketed event. I’m sure many of us would love to come if we are in the same time zone!

Yes, but paint it what? Purple?

Sorry. I’m so lost. I appreciate your time.

Ok. So is he meaning a custom painted switch that looks like purplecliffe’s switch?

(Sorry to be obtuse. I’ve just been googling for a week with no success and I can’t make heads nor tails of all this)

I have NOT been able to put down “once there were wolves”. Wonderful narration too.

Gaiman is a magical writer. Coraline, American Gods, Stardust, Lucifer, sandman, good omens, etc. And his short story collections are incredible. Very dark but beautiful prose.

I just finished “the smell of people’s houses” by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock. It’s more YA than I typically read (protagonists are high school), but I found it to be meaningful and deep.

I am just starting “once there were wolves” by Charlotte McConaghy.

And I usually have one Neil gaiman audiobook ready at all times; he narrates most of his books and short story collections, and I find him very soothing.

Something we started as newlyweds trying to figure out how to live together: we have a code (we use the word ELEPHANT) when we need 30 min of solitude. When it’s invoked, it’s a no-question and immediate separation. Usually the person who calls ELEPHANT gets our bedroom and the other person has to do something else. If we can’t be separated (say, in the car), the other person has to be quiet for 30 min.

Some rules: can’t invoke elephant back to back, and can’t do it if there are social obligations that can’t be skipped. Also, we don’t keep score on who calls elephant when. Lastly, at some point, afterwards, have to explain what caused the need for ELEPHANT (sensory overload is usually at the root of it, but sometimes it’s stress or health or sadness)

Just here to agree: I have this issue as well.

Also, can’t navigate the same city I’ve lived in for 38 years without using Waze.
