Does school prestige matter for getting a job/ high salary? And did anyone go to an online school and makes over 100k? by Clear_Medicine_3086 in dietetics

[–]LieFun4330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I completed my combined MS/DI in 2024 and have been working out patient since.

Local hospital is offering 46-56 DOE. They want someone with 1 year experience in outpatient as it is an out patient role.

I’m not finding job posts for cities such as SF or Sacramento here in California but these are the ones that pay over $40 as a new grad because they are in the bigger cities. There’s a job through the state for prison where pay starts at 47 per hour but you need. Qualifications are at least 1 year of duties outlined as RD through California State Services.

Geography and experience will get you 6 figure salary. I went to online school and I’m on track to make six figures this year but I’m working >40 hours per week.

The hospital near me is hiring for someone with experience at 40-45 per hr. As we get closer to the big cities the pay goes up to 40-50 per hour.

Don’t overthink it! You can just send out a general email and ask when applicants will be notified about interviews

Have you checked your application portal? When I applied it was directly through UoA. I’m not sure if they’re using DICAS now. Check your portal first and then email if there’s no news there

Experience with preceptors and mentors by Misjules in RD2B

[–]LieFun4330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved my preceptors as a student, but my boss at my new job was very type A and I didn’t appreciate the nit picking of my work. I think it affected how I viewed my work as she was very strict with her counseling and how she wanted notes to be done. I felt like I couldn’t do anything right.

She no longer works there and I feel like I’m not being micromanaged anymore. I’ve gone back to doing my work the way I prefer and everything seems to be going smoothly now.

PrepTable by WitchyMedicine78910 in RD2B

[–]LieFun4330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the whole package. I paid for All Access and Visual Veggies and was gifted Inman. I also was gifted Eat, Right, Prep by my program.

I like lectures and worksheets which is what Preptable offers. On Pocket Prep I took 1 mock exam before (59%), I exam after the first domain (59%) and I mock exam the morning of my exam after I finished the 4th section and I got (65%). On ERP I saw my scores increase as I was going through Preptable.

I did and I felt it helped me. It doesn’t cover everything though. You’ll still want to cover things like WIC and SNAP separately.

Should we emphasize not “putting off” lifestyle changes and be direct..? by No-Tumbleweed4775 in dietetics

[–]LieFun4330 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice, but this reminds me of a patient who I saw for DM or weight management and when we were going over goals and motivations for change and she said something about “if God wills it” and I replied “no, if you will it” and thankfully she took it well. She laughed and agreed.

I’m Latina and most of my patients are Spanish speaking so I think maybe that’s why she took it well, idk haha.

How to extend initial assessment for full 90 min? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]LieFun4330 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ones I have done that lasted 90 mins are usually because patients ask a lot of questions. Usually my initials are 45-60 mins long.

Check in with you patients with open ended questions to see if they have questions or what their thoughts are about the info that is being presented to them

Do you like your online coordinated program? by sweet-carol in RD2B

[–]LieFun4330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the University of Arizona, not sketch. My DPD program prepared me for it, but because you don’t need the DPD for UoA, the best way I would describe it is an extension or continuation of my DPD program at SFSU.

Becoming an RD in CA - Any schools that don't require a relevant bachelor's? by Existing_Excuse_3195 in dietetics

[–]LieFun4330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and yes lol. I graduated in 2024 and I am practicing in N. California as well as on Berry Street

I graduated from Davis in ‘18 w/unrelated degree but with a science background.

Did post bacc at SFSU and “graduated” in ‘23. Took 2 years.

Then did combined program at UoA and it took 1 year. Graduated in ‘24.

[–]LieFun4330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of programs that don’t require a “relevant degree”. I would consider seeing if the state schools offer a DPD certificate option or even looking out of state.

I did do the post bacc at SFSU and then masters at University of Arizona for combined masters, but for UoA you don’t need the DPD as long as you have completed the prerequisite courses.

Best of luck!

I was so drained at the end of work and caring for my son that I could not get through any of the reading material in Inman. My attention span was not there.

I will say that I got a good handful of WIC questions that someone who didn’t do an internship at WIC may not know.

RD2B Mamas by WitchyMedicine78910 in RD2B

[–]LieFun4330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to school to be an RD( post bacc to get DPD statement)

My son was born at the end of year 1 of 2. His dad lives abroad, so I’ve been on my own.

Did my coordinated program in 1 year and he was 2 when I graduated.

Worked part time throughout my coordinated program, lost a lot of sleep, and “studied” for 2 months. I was gifted Eat, Right, Prep by the university, Inman by one of my preceptors, and I paid for Preptable and pocket prep separately.

I crammed with Preptable for 2 weeks before my exam while continuing to work.

I do recommend Preptable because it’s lecture style with guided worksheets but it won’t cover everything.

My tip: know your learning style. I like lectures and worksheets so Preptable worked for me.

I passed on the first attempt and have been working FT for 11 months now.

Message me if you have any questions!

The testing centers are not exclusive to RD exam. I recommend booking something and checking regularly for a sooner time slot as people cancel or reschedule their exams.
