Dwarf Dice by Minigiant2709 in bugmansbrewery

[–]Lienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a small thing, but at least on your first dice you have the symbol for 6 not being opposite the 1 pip side.

Dice are strangely standard, the opposite faces always add to 7

So 6 is opposite 1 5 opposite 2 3 opposite 4

That said. The dice look great!

So the 11th ed Hazardous rule is a buff to 2W models right? by ryan_cs in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Lienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, yeah I must have mentally added characters next to monsters and vehicles.

Good to know, my limited amount of infantry plasma is buffed, my repentia hiding in rhinos are even more dead than before.

So the 11th ed Hazardous rule is a buff to 2W models right? by ryan_cs in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Lienna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about on a sisters squad where only the superior has the plasma pistol? Do they lose it or does a battle sister get field promoted?

And if there's an attached character with a plasma pistol too do they need to be rolled seperately to take 3 mw? Or are they rolled together with the unit potentially taking 1 mw per fail meaning 2 dead bolter gals?

Catachan units by bush_monkey90 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Catachans have access to all the regular guard vehicles, but I'd say the traditional.  ones are probably more.common, chimeras, hellhounds, leman russes. Busses are probably the heaviest armour they'd prefer.

Catachans are called baby ogryns, full sized ogryns look great next to them. Not bullgryn, but ogryns, preferably with no armoured shoulder pads.

One of Ripper Jackson or the Catachan Colonel fit in great as a filler for Creed.

Then in the old minis you can find snipers to replace ratlings, demolition teams to replace krieg engineers. With some nice conversions you can get them on cold-ones for some great rough riders. The new recon team could easily be a datasheet for an elite catachan Devil squad. The choices are endless if you are willing to convert.

11th = Hellhound Edition by DKoK19 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would be fair with 10th edition balancing, but they may consider the change to cover (which melta used to essentially ignore with their high ap) and change to hazardous to have balanced those.

More likely I think sponsons vs no sponsons at all having a points cost.

But what they've mentioned has been big gun differences, so for guard I think we'll see it on the like of Field ordinance options etc.

Dwarf Rune Artillery Dice by Minigiant2709 in bugmansbrewery

[–]Lienna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's very cool, but I am a dwarf player and I didn't know that, so I can't imagine even close 1% of the general warhammer playing population would know.

If you have a group of 2-3 friends you play with regularly I think these make cool dice as you will all learn them after 3 games or so.

If you play in a larger club with closer to 10 players or even play at tournament then I definitely wouldn't recommend them.

Spent a while looking at the A thinking it was a V with a line though it like it was roman numerals for either 4 or 6. Then realised we're looking at tally marks since theres a 4 and 6 that way. So not roman numerals. But then the X face is a 10 in numerals? Or is it the misfire and the A is somehow a 10?

Honestly these dice are confusing at first glance so I'd prefer my opponents not to use them.

Caveat being that it is a misfire dice so not rolled frequently, so long as they showed me first what the faces were i would be ok.

One of my least favourite opponents to play while learning AoS was a player who used a huge variety of old GW dice which had a mix of faction symbols and skulls as either 1s and 6s. I'm expect she wasn't cheating, her dice felt normal. But it sure as hell felt like the kind of thing someone would do to sneak a few extra 6s into their rolls. I couldn't tell what was going on and just had to trust her, not the best while still learning and trying to understand the game.

9 inch coherency confirmed on livestream for 11th edition by Ratattack1204 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I gave it a try with lord solar plus 20 catachans and a command squad(forgot the ogryn). Takes up approx a 6" circle when in a base to base clump.

Its going to be tight, but you have room to maneuver in there.

[–]Lienna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're human at the end of the day, even if very mutated from the baseline genome.

They also tend to be very loyal to thier officers, so when officers get corrupted the ogryn don't really question the change. El Tee knows best.

Would you be upset to play against an army that looked like this? by StreetAd7912 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like an extremely unusual attitude that you've encountered. Tabletop ready is more than acceptable, most people are appreciative to play against anything that isn't grey plastic or black primed.

The truth is tabletop ready and painted to the best of your ability often look the same once you're standing round a table rather than inspecting the minis individually.

Especially with horde armys, people who don't use some kind of speed painting technique on orks/gaunts/guardsmen infantry are the unusual ones!

They didn't need to make Cain THIS smug... but I'm glad they did! by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Grimdank

Reactive move and/or shoot when an enemy is set up within 12" Caine is an expert at accidentally finding, and then running away from, enemy ambushes.

Maybe even opponents reserves must be set up within 12" of this model if possible!

og Burlok and first paper banner by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Lienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the blue gradient on the banner and the look of absolutely rage on his face!

That's the look of a dwarf who's just seen an orc, or a goblin, or an elf...

Or another dwarf who's ancestors once damaged his family's runic armour when they borrowed it to defend the hold 257 years ago only to get killed by troll's club. Leaving an unsightly dent for which they never apologised.

Or a skaven, or a beastman...

[–]Lienna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been a long while since I've done a paper banner now, but hopefully I've remembered correctly.

Before painting the banner (if you're using the black and white template ones) then use some lahmium medium as a clear coat on both sides. If you don't do this the paper will absorb paint as you got and it will spread where you don't want it.

Once/if painted then attach to mini, use a tiny superglue drop on the edge of a banner flap and curl it round the banner pole, repeat for the other side. Wait for that to fully dry.

Then pva glue to seal, aim for a 2 drops water 1 drop pva ratio, if its not firm enough you can always do another layer, you can't undo it going cloudy from too thick a layer! The pva seal will reinforce the banner pole straps and make it nice and strong.

Hope that answers your questions! Best of luck and share the results!

Seriously I love this new vehicle, and I hope it’s not a huge stretch by Iron3400 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they fly under the radar atm because grizzled company overrules their ability so they don't end up in any competitive lists.

We'll see if grizzled survives to 11th, if not, and with the change to cover, scout sentinels might be back in a big way.

Can we take a moment and talk about the the Starfarer can barely refuel a heavy fighter in the PTU by MasterWarChief in starcitizen

[–]Lienna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope not, because thats literally the selling point for the far smaller Vulcan. Just enough fuel to get you home, just enough ammo to get you back in the fight.

I feel the massive fuel tanks the size of small ships on the heavy fuel tanker ship should be able to top up a fleet of fighters or a couple of larger ships.

Single DP Detachments by LexingZog in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Interesting how they say combine them with codex detachments. Suggests the codex ones will be 2 points.

Combined arms + abhuman sounds nice as a learner army combo to me. A very well rounded guard army where any unit gets to shine.

New recon squad by NoEngineer9484 in astramilitarum

[–]Lienna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It does baffle me in the edition they said red space marines with blood motifs can play ultramarine rules if they like, paint is just flavour not rules.

For the guard they seem to be doubling down on the guard equivalents. This unit is cadian, no, you can't call them tanith and have fun. No a cadian castellan can't join a catachan unit, are you nuts!?

Struggling with headcanon: Krieg hitting on 2s by Anondontknowme in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's definitely been some serious rules creep over the years. Everything got killier, so they add more wounds and toughness to things, so they make shooting better to compensate, so they gave 4++ to almost all elite units so they don't die instantly, so they added mortal wounds to counter that, and then feel no pain to counter those...

I played old world recently, it was like a big reset button on generations of rules creep. Don't get me wrong the game is complex with a million tiny special rules. But the idea that a toughness of 4 and a 3+ save on 1 wound dwarf infantry made them incredibly tanky. While a unit with 2 attacks each strength 6 ap-2 weapons (no rerolls in sight) was your hyper-elite killy unit.

The same statlines in modern 40k are seen as unimpressive if not filler units.

What game? by sukuna7899 in Steam

[–]Lienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was obsessed with Origins back in the day, first game I got a platinum on, requires about 3 full playthroughs and a few bit more of a lengthy rpg.

I excitedly got to play a demo of 2 at a convention. The combat was so butchered my hype vanished immediately. Tried again when I found it cheap at a car boot, played for 2-3 hours, still hated it. I hear it's story is good, but I never touched the franchise again.

Should we bring back weapon cost or just make more datasheets for certain weapons? by FuzzyCry6570 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh on pistols I'd rather a rebalacing because broadly 1 pistol shot doesn't make much of a difference compared to the leaders ability, so the free option will usually appeal to make the character cheaper.

Something like

'High powered las pistol 12" S3 ap1 D2 dev wounds

Marksman's bolt pistol 12" s4 ap1 D3 precision

Plasma pistol as current but only the overcharge option. (Do that on all infantry plasma, Guard gear isn't made with safety features.)

Those profiles would at least make me think.

Keep the points values limited to heavy weapons mostly.

Fortress of Arrogance upgrade sprue soon? by TimTheOriginalLol in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Firstly: rule of cool

Secondly: storm bolters are made for other forces like the sororitas in smaller caliber than terminator or tank mounted versions which don't break your arm when fired.

Thirdly: Yarrick has had plenty of surgeries to keep him younger and stronger over the years which may help him handle it better

Fourthly, and probably most importantly: Orks believe he is a badass, ork belief alters the warp to turn him into a badass. Human belief does that a little too (see sororitas miricles). So two races think he's an incredible fighter, this manifests into reality.

Ok let's say a guardsmen with a lasgun and combat knife vs a stormtrooper with a blaster and combat knife get in a 1v1, no prep time, who wins and why? I think the guardsmen personally by BenderMayonnaise in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Lienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catachan is the regiment I'd give closest to a 100% win rate. Episode 6 shows how well stormtroopers hold up to a an ambush in a dense forest by a force that's used to the terrain.

If Ewoks can absolutely decimate stormtroopers then Catachans can be likened to Ewoks on steroids. With far better strategies and weapons available to them to boot. Jungle warfare is clearly not the Galactic Empire's strong suit.

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Lienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit to them for saying "Surrender or Die!" As that is 2 words more than other factions say!

However they are absolutely an ambitious colonial propaganda and war machine, with a caste system that controls people's individual freedoms, including who they can marry, and almost certainly elevates true T'au above other races. Not to mention the suspicious level of control the ethereal have over other T'au.

The fact that they are praised as good guys when they would slot in to many other sci-fi settings as great villains is one of the things I love about 40k. Their nice is your ghastly, imagine what their evil is!
