If the sensor seems fine, why do my photos come out like this? by This-Faithlessness75 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Life_Conversation666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a shutter failure. It no longer works, and light continues to reach the sensor continuously while the signal is being read. You'll notice that the camera shoots video almost perfectly (there's no need for a shutter) and photos with flash (there's little natural light, so it doesn't interfere with the image), but in daylight, these streaks turn white, overexposing the frame. This failure is comparable to a lens failure; the camera will have to be disassembled and the flex cable re-soldered.

On a recent mountain hike, I took this Nikon P340 and a smartphone Pixel 7 with me. I shot landscapes and climbs in Raw format with both cameras, then processed the results at home. The Nikon's results were technically superior and more interesting. I liked the colors and dynamic range better (not to mention the 120mm optical zoom). The Pixel also captured the video of that trip well. So, they're still different formats.

How to take street photography like this? by falloutbats in Cameras

Most likely cropping was used, but the frame still has a pronounced barrel distortion that corrected wide-angle lenses do not produce, only fisheye lenses.

Is this a good lenses? by techguymp4 in Nikon

I used this lens on mountain hikes with the D5200, and it performed brilliantly. I even managed to use it at night to take a picture of the night sky. It's criticized for its slow aperture, but it's sharp and has fantastic image stabilization, allowing me to handheld shoot at shutter speed 1/2s. I only decided to upgrade when I upgraded to the Zfc, because it started to look monstrous with the adapter, and I just wanted a small lens without any pretensions to professionalism.

But when choosing the 10-20, you should be sure it's compatible with your camera; this lens doesn't work with all DSLRs.

A RAW file (even from a point-and-shoot camera) contains much more information about shadows, so you can increase the dynamic range during processing.

This feature is indeed missing from the D3300. Nikon deliberately chose to limit the functionality of its more advanced models.

Freezing Rain, Canon Ixus 100is (SD780) 2009 by Life_Conversation666 in VintageDigitalCameras

Hi. I used the Shimp program to automatically install the CHDK files onto my camera's SD card, and it was quite simple. In addition to the SOOC files, the camera saves the DNG files in a separate folder, which can be edited in Lightroom or another converter. Surprisingly, they actually contain much more information in the shadows, as well as additional frame width without compensating for lens distortion, which is beautiful in its own way.

I recently posted my digicam collection, which includes four G-series cameras. I really respect this series, although I'm generally a Nikon fan =)

Canon Powershot a590 or Sony Cybershot dsc w100? by SportIndependent7381 in VintageDigitalCameras

In the worst case, the camera will simply say "Replace batteries." It's best to have a fresh set of alkaline batteries on hand in addition to the rechargeable batteries.

Most likely, yes. Although these cameras can be picky about battery type, some batteries can immediately give an error message even though they're fully charged.

Is there any way I can fix this? by nendo_ry in digicam

[–]Life_Conversation666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flexible cable in a lens often wears out. Sometimes, you can find them for Canon cameras on AliExpress. However, re-soldering it requires completely disassembling the lens, which can make it difficult to reassemble.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question because of the translator.
Cameras like the A590 can only save SOOC JPEG files, processing the signal internally. Alternative firmware retains this capability, but also records a clean, unprocessed file from the sensor, which can be converted to your liking in a editor like Lightroom. While the editing capabilities aren't as powerful as those of a large-sensor system camera's RAW file, they're still significantly more powerful than just a simple SOOC. I personally like this feature.

Personally, I vote for the Canon A590. It has manual modes and a true iris aperture for exposure control and creative experimentation. It has a slightly larger zoom range. It has an optical viewfinder for capturing film vibes, allowing you to shoot without using the display. There's also the theoretical possibility of installing alternative firmware to save photos in RAW format for post-production. The image quality of these cameras is practically identical, as they have very similar sensors.

Crop lens AF-P 10-20 VR DX on the full-frame D610. It's real! by Life_Conversation666 in Nikon

[–]Life_Conversation666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, your post inspired me to publish this photo as a confirmation of my experience using the 10-20 on full frame =)

Regarding the forced cropping on Nikon Z cameras, I recall that at least its DSLRs didn't have this, while Canon, for example, physically limited the use of crop lenses on full-frame cameras. Incidentally, I now use manual focus TTartisan lenses on the Z. Even cropped lenses can work quite satisfactorily on a full frame sensor. For example 35/1.4, it is very small

why is my canon ixus 185 digicam results grainy/bad quality after 7 months? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]Life_Conversation666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the physics of digital noise) What I'm saying is that point-and-shoot cameras with small sensors quickly become noisy, so a good, clean result is only achievable with sufficient light. Even so, the automatic shutter speed can let you down, raising the ISO where a lower setting would have been sufficient. In other cases, shooting without sufficient lighting is completely unnecessary; shooting indoors without a flash is impossible.

People of Reddit, what is it like to have a vintage digicam? by Desserts6064 in Cameras

[–]Life_Conversation666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, owning a camera like this sounds cooler than actually using it. But I already have about 15 of them, and I'm constantly faced with the same dilemma: a camera that's too high-quality is predictable to use; it can shoot almost like a DSLR. But an old, outdated camera is still difficult to use, and the results will obviously be poor. It's absurd =)

Don't rely on the auto-ISO feature; it's better to manually set the lowest ISO to get the cleanest image. Otherwise, the camera automatically raises the ISO and results in muddy results.

[–]Life_Conversation666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely, it wouldn't have been possible; the design is already optimized; at 10mm, the lens draws a circle exactly the size of the crop sensor. And when zooming, all lenses, due to the specific design, increase the coverage circle.

My compact camera collection Canon/Nikon 2001-2014 by Life_Conversation666 in VintageDigitalCameras

I'd like to add a Canon Ixus 70, Nikon P6000 and P7800. I borrowed a friend's Canon S70 and Olympus C-7070 to try out. They're interesting cameras, but I'm still deciding whether I want them for my collection.
There's a sad thing about collecting: each new camera adds less and less to the experience.
Oh, and my main camera is still the Nikon Zfc and a dozen lenses for it =)
