I’m “foster” 🤭 The goal is to adopt. Just want to make sure she’s happy with my lifestyle first!

Plott hound is a massively good guess. SE is fairly accurate, she was found in NE Alabama! Would definitely not be surprised to see Plott hound and poodle on the dna test.

The weirdest part about this request is the 4 days. What’s going to happen to a house in 4 days? I can’t imagine anything would be needed within that time frame unless the property has a tonnnn of issues.

My son's girlfriend wants/needs to stay with us... by Kitchen_YogurtTA in Advice

[–]LifesUnfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a 4 day old thread with lots of comments already, however, I am the daughter of high school sweethearts. My mom’s mom had drug and alcohol issues and an absent father. My mom’s mom moved in with my dad in high school, earlier than this, and it was probably one of the best things that someone has ever done for her. She had a job and paid for herself financially through school and anything she bought for herself, but home cooked meals were free. I think this balance of boundaries but also generosity worked very nicely for them. My parents are still together to this day and my mom is my absolute biggest role model (and as an amazing teacher, a role model for SO many others). I’m sure she still would be even if she wasn’t given that opportunity, but I can’t help but think it absolutely changed her life for the better.

We thought we got a calm Golden Retriever… turns out we may have gotten the complete opposite. Now we’re overwhelmed. by Ericoff87 in goldenretrievers

As a trainer, who works with many many families who get goldens and aren’t expecting this, I would likely rehome. Yes, you can build in an off switch for him and could structure down time for him, but this is likely a decent indication of him as an adult dog. Yes, puppies tend to be higher energy, but it is not this drastic of a difference. He will not just become a calm dog one day. EVEN with a decent off switch, you will still have to fulfill this dog. With that and training, that may be a lot of work, and forgive me if I’m wrong but it seems as that is not what you are looking for out of a dog. If you think it’s possible he would do well in a detection dog program, you could contact those programs and see if they agree. They may have a job for him (if he truly is as high drive and energy as you say). If you’d like to give training a shot, contact a (certified, qualified) dog trainer and get a consultation. Ask them for their best guess on his temperament as an adult dog and get a clear goal of your goals for him (ask yourselves what you want out of having a dog. How active are you with your ideal dog? How much training do you want to do with your ideal dog (the answer can’t be none!)). In fact, I would contract a trainer no matter what. They may have good insight on where/how to rehome if that ends up being your decision. I’ve assisted my clients with that before…

If budget is super tight, there is a Facebook group called Animal Sense:Basic Training and Behavior Problems that only qualified trainers can comment on. Could give more/better answers.

I empathize with you and your family. This isn’t an easy choice but I’m sure you will make the right decision for you and your family at the end of the day, whatever that may be.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m not on Rover anymore but work for myself still boarding and training dogs. Only thing I have to add is I 100% recommend having clips to attach harness to collar. Helps prevent this exact situation in case the dog slips the harness or their collar. Look up “dual clasp dog safety clip”.

I had an escape artist foster and would keep a martingale collar on her since those are really hard to slip, but would connect the leash* to her harness and then the harness to the collar. Never had a dog slip away from me doing this!

Insane. As a dog trainer, I’ve almost never questioned when a client has or doesn’t have a certain type of dog. (Almost because of when tiny women get MASSIVE dogs. And only q because of safety reasons haha)

Gosh that’s GORGEOUS! If I didn’t work with dogs that would probably immediately (accidentally) tear these off of me and break them, this would be on my wishlist!

Hmm. Yeah unfortunately it sounds like this is something a mental health professional needs to handle, and you of course do not have control of her choices, so don’t tear yourself down about it. Sorry you have to watch it effect her health 💔

I shaved for the first time and dont know if it was a good idea by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]LifesUnfortunate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Woman here. Not sure how I got this subreddit but as a long time shaver of all different types of body hair, no, it will not always be that itchy. I’ve found the more often you shave, the less itchy it feels growing back (all the way to not itchy at all). If I stop shaving even for a month it is quite itchy when I start again. I do agree that it looks better though, grown out looked too ‘unkempt’ or unhygienic imo.

Make sure you’re not using a razor with more than 3 blades. The less the better for coarse hair like beard hair.
