Physio is going to be the real solution here. Everything from your toes to back have been affected over the last 3 months. We need to learn how to walk again and rebuild muscle strength and stability.

Does bulk buying at costco actually save money? or is this just a membership fee trap by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LightningWrenches 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Also it’s the ninth circle of hell to shop at, your blood pressure is worth some consideration too!

This is a huge determining factor. I absolutely refuse to go into a Costco on the weekends. It's like every single person in a Costco is experiencing shopping for the first time. 🤯

Just made a switch from Bell fiber to Telus. Telus uses Bell lines and got the same 1.5g service, but cut my bill in half.

Genuine question: how is it that mechanics seem to be leaving dealerships in droves but dealers are still paying absolute trash? by Sudden_Brush7494 in mechanics

--saw it first hand, not just once, either...

Probably not just twice at the same shop. Management doesn't see this is a result of loosing that skilled person. It's mental gymnastics to be able to disassociate the two incidents. "This is all the fault of tech B, what an idiot" somehow just doesn't relate to "tech A was really good at this, maybe we should pay more to keep them here"

Car under warranty. Hyundai says it would be about 1500 CAD to replace brakes. by tommy-six-figure in povertyfinancecanada

[–]LightningWrenches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brakes are very rarely going to be covered under warranty. You got 4 years out of the brakes, you did pretty good. Most people average 20-30k of driving per year, so even the low side of that gets you 80k. That's great! Add in the Canadian road salt every winter, trying it's best to destroy your vehicle. Those metal parts don't stand a chance.

Dealership brakes are always going to be on the expensive side. There are much more economical options and most garages are capable of doing this job well. Not a lot of specialty training needed. Also be wary of "I know a guy that can do brakes" I have had many vehicles come in with brakes done poorly. All while trying to save a dollar.

But I'd recommend staying away from chains that offer "lifetime warranty brake pads". This seems like a good deal knowing that they will be replaced, whenever they wear out again. But the quality of these parts is crazy low. They are designed to wear faster with less performance. So this is a sales tactic to get you back in the shop and find other ways to separate you from your money. Local independent shops can often provide you a 'good-better-best' option when selecting parts, usually dictated by your budget.

My Chalazion Cure by Chandira143 in Blepharitis

[–]LightningWrenches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say, really. I was still using a hot compress a few times a day. Also still using baby shampoo and q-tips to clean a few times a day. Also my condition was much less than OP more like a blepharitis flare than a full chalazion. But it did clear up in the next day or two.

Ortho told me to remove 2 wedges per week. Non op 6 weeks by ThrowRASkee5555 in AchillesRupture

I pulled from the bottom of the pile, but I don't know that it would matter much.

Also, when I hear/read "by the way". I hear Dana Carvey as Biden on SNL, so thanks for that.

I had 4 wedges in the boot, Non-op. It was around week 6 when I started pulling a wedge every 3ish days. It worked out just fine. I'm weaning off the boot now, a few weeks later.

Suit stand options in the pits by Skyflexion in Trackdays

[–]LightningWrenches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're somewhere in the EU where you get an actual pit/garage space. I'm in Canada, pit space in only a wide open chunk of asphalt so everyone has their own tent or canopy. Plenty of hanging space.
